  • When the horse is perfect but all elements work against you... I'm going to treasure my last few days with Phantom, until we meet again hopefully! This is not what I wanted to do, but what I needed to do for both Phantom and myself. It sucks but that's the way things play out sometimes!
    Love this sweet boy...

My horse had terrible skin and respiratory problems in the Houston area where I used to live (super humid, muddy, etc). I eventually moved to west Texas (desert) and brought him with me, and his skin and respiratory issues cleared up completely. Maybe Phantom will do better in a different climate. He seems like a lovely horse!

I can see why you like Phantom so much -- he has a much bigger build and bone than I've seen on most Mustangs. Of course, that might partly be because he is a little bit older than many of the Mustangs I've seen people work with on RUclips. He definitely has a very good and calm brain. I love the way you work with all your horses, always doing what is best for the horse in problematic situations that are out of your control. It sounds like you and Camile have lined up a fantastic home for this fantastic horse-in-progress :) Thank you for all that you do, Sam, and always being a considerate and kind person with horses. PS Always nice to see a little Lynx cameo running up to where you're working near the beginning of your vid :)

Props to you Sam! Thats a sticky place that Phantom got in, but I'm glad to hear he's going to a good home!!! Thanks for being honest and real, I know it might be hard but it helps younger trainers like me know that not everything goes right all the time!

So sad! He probably would have been great in California. Hot, humid environments are so hard to maintain an animal with allergies. I'll bet that he would have been even worse in Florida..at least where I am on the central east coast. It's awesome that he gets to stay with Camille!!!

Sam, vets can usually tell from a rash whether it seems to be something that is contagious or not and I highly doubt that they would refuse a health cert for something that like you say is from weather and fly irritation. I hope you try to see what the vet says before really deciding not to go forward with him, he has the most potential of any of your past mustangs! Good luck with everything!!

I like him soooo much! I'm sure it was not an easy decision, but kudos to you for doing what was right for him. Sounds like he will have an awesome home, too! These Texas summers are brutal. I feel so sorry for him with his skin issues. Moved down here a couple yrs ago from Southern PA with my Mustang mare ..and I can't say we are staying, but at least I got to find that out. As my farrier that I loved down here said, "You gotta admit, Texas weather sucks."😂 Although born and bred Texan, he sold his 48acre farm in Northeast Texas, right after that, and moved out with his wife. Not sure where he landed, but I sure do miss him.

I've had similar "luck" working with mine... when I adopted her my situation was perfect and I had the time, within a matter of weeks I was working an insane schedule, then toss in the horrid weather we've had this year, it has definitely been challenging to do anything with any of our horses. I do try to get out and feed and pet my mustang as much as possible though. It happens, especially in the south.... just keep making videos ma'am, love watching them and learning from you.

Yeah… we’re still recovering from the damage from the rainstorms earlier this year. I’m currently waiting on some tractor parts to arrive so I can get my grapple working (it needs a hydraulic adapter… sometimes it’s the simplest things that bring it all to a halt).
Hang in there! He seems like a nice horse… I’m no expert, but I’m thinking he’ll do well. 🙂🐴

Did he have it when you first picked him up? It might be something in his feed , or in fla my dogs get " grass itch" something in the grass breaks my one dog out like that. My other dog it doesn't bother him. , Or could it be something in the rain water? ( I'm allergic to rain and snow..it causes hives ..normal water is fine. I think what the disease you're thinking of is " mange" my thoughts but I'm NOT an expert..it looks like what my dog gets from the grass , but only where it touches her..
