In real life, it’s dangerous to part ways with a human being - however evil - in this manner. It’s not productive to unnecessarily antagonise anyone who has ever been closely associated with us. But in a film, it’s indispensable!

The principal thing here Daniel, is that she is considering the manageress's feelings.
She says that, _it is not that_ in reference to her own feelings; she says that her own feelings aren't the reason why.

So glad you wrote this comment (although I'm seeing it 2 years on). I'm always surprised at the way people act as if the actors are mouthing their own words, and not the words of a brilliant writer. Even though great actors tell the stories brilliantly, we need to remember who actually wrote the words they speak and the stories they tell.

Katharine Hepburn was a remarkable actress and professional. What I admire most about her is that in the 1930’s she was label box office poison, a gamut of emotions from A to B. Yet she was able to transform her early misfortunes in her career to a longevity of a success and admiration moving forward. It shows how if we play our cards smartly, we can turn our mistakes in majesty.

      YES! 100% agree!
To be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of Joey’s character. I get that she represents the beauty of young love, but at best she’s naive and at worst she’s shockingly insensitive to the feelings of others the way she rushes through everything. Or maybe I’m just a little cold to poor Katharine Houghton who’s simply outclassed by the massive talents she’s surrounded by like Tracy, Hepburn, and Poitier (I mean this as a simple fact, not an indictment of her ability).
Despite all of that, I bristled when Hilary called this woman a “child” and simply loved Christina going full mama bear and defending her daughter and her choices.

Virginia Christine was picked specifically for this role. Yes she was Mrs. Olsen of the Folger's Coffee commercials but she had a long and distinguished career behind her. Both Hepburn and Tracy just loved great actors and loved working with them. To be chosen for one of their films was an honor itself and often catapulted actors to top careers. They always worked on closed sets because they were genuine artists. Kate's Oscar in this case surely was for both of them.

This movie provides everything I need when viewing a great film. Drama, humor, happiness, heartache, hope, and honest truth which in the conclusion of this film emerges as genuine entertainment. That's something that doesn't happen very often in film or in reality. The truth doesn't sit just right with most people. Also this brilliant movie can boast a cast of some of the finest actors in the business. Tracy, Poitier, Hepburn, Richards and Kellaway have been on my list of favorites since i first viewed the film back in the seventies. I'm almost certain they will remain there the rest of my life. Also the most important aspect of this wonderful picture, hands down, is this scene. Possibly the greatest scene ever filmed. I suggest a Lifetime Achievement Award or A Best Leading Scene Oscar for it's performance.

Wow Kathryn Hepburn delivers. It's like she's speaking for me in moments of my life with perfect prose, enunciated with precision in her indignation. What a visionary to carry this off in that age of integration. She modeled ahow to be, how to embrace these changesa as improvements to our broken systems aplenty.

Katharine Hepburn was so cool about it. She not only knocked it out of the park, but as usual, she did it with the bases loaded.

Catherine Hepburn was not a joke in her role. I loved this particular part of the movie. She came alive and made movie goers believed her attitude of everyday people.

the one thing always said about Katherine Hepburn was that she was a Lady!! SOooo beautiful.. wearing slacks, not dresses or skirts.. unless it was for a role... her messy, but neat bun on top of her head (or braid)... her beautiful way of talking (Brin (?) Mar education).. her way of telling you to go to @%$$ .. without actually saying the words (bet she did know them at least!!).. Total Class and Dignity.... God, she was SoOo good!!.
