A letter for the love of her life yet containing unanswered questions. Why? Why? The tears in her eyes at the end witness how much he meant to her. Sad but beautiful.
This is so beautiful. I'm a 16 year old boy and broke while watching this. Katharine Hepburn is my idol and she was beautiful, smart, funny, amazing and witty. And the love she felt for Spencer Tracy will probably never be felt by three quarters of the world. She adored, loved, cared for, and supplied for him, and they never married either..

I've never cried watching a movie, I've never cried hearing a speech, I've never cried when I got hurt, I've never cried in public, and I've never cried over the death of a family member. Katharine Hepburn was intensely private. She was not one to give interviews and those given were for the most part short and we're specific in their content. She seemed to open up in her later years being more available to people who wanted to know about her, her career etc... I find this fascinating that she is sharing what I consider some of her most private thoughts regarding Spencer Tracy. Interesting yet terribly sad, you can hear it in her voice.
I think she realized how beloved she was after she agreed to do The Dick Cavett 3 hr 2 part interview in 1973. She had people bowing to her in the streets shouting I love you Kate! out of bus & apartment windows. She phoned DC and was stunned and shocked at how many people it touched after part 1 aired. She was intially supposed to do a scheduled interview but suddenly said at the test run 'oh hell let's just do it now that I'm here'. She was uneasy about doing TV interviews had never agreed to any offers said she would never do one. On DC Show admitted she was always nervous wary to try new things even though she craved moving constantly forward in life....and did. At end of part 2 she said she had to admit she was glad she had done it and had enjoyed it. That is my favourite of all her interviews. She was 66 yrs old very energetic enthusiastic about life. I have watched this video a few years ago. I guess it was back when I was 14 and now I'm 21. I've always loved Kate Hepburn but her relationship with Spence did not really interest me before. That moment was wonderful. To hear Katherine Hepburn speaking once again to the love of her life who had been gone from her all those long years. A letter from her heart to the man she loved so much and she shared that with all of us.
I remember the Hepburn documentary of which this clip was a part. This is so powerful and heartfelt; very human. Spencer Tracy's unique ability to expose his deep humanity, vulnerability, and strength were amazing. He never "acted", he simply "was." No other actor can touch him in that regard. How blessed he was to have had Katharine in his corner. Thank you for the video.

Deep human, romantic love and empathy is glorious, wonderful, ... and heartbreaking. they were the premier "movie star" couple. but Spencer was riddled with guilt and really something of a tormented soul. This is a beautiful video; thank you so much for uploading it. Katherine Hepburn was so down to earth and real; I guess that's why she was so respected by everyone in the entertainment industry. She wasn't pretentious; she was Kate. We are all so blessed that she shared this letter to Spencer in this film clip. I am sure they are together in Heaven now.
It was said she took a sculpture of him she created to all the places she stayed. She did a beautiful job creating it. It looked just like him. I have a sculpture I did of my deceased sister that means a lot to me . It won first place in an Art Show. But since I'm not famous ....it will probably be thrown in the garbage after my death. I wish someone would cherish it as much as I do....She was blessed.
I love Kate so much. Every time I see her in an interview I wish I had been born a couple decades earlier so I could have met her. Thanks for the video.
How incredibly impressed with Spencer, Kate was. That is saying a lot because Kate acted with many of the all-time great lead men and likely conversed at length with and knew well a good number of them; however none made such an indelible impression on her as Mr.Tracy did. One can hear in her voice and see in her countenance that Spencer somehow mesmerized her with both his nonpareil acting skills and humanity, much of which she clearly found magnetic and alluring but also inscrutable and distant. Tracy, Cagney, Stewart, Bogart, Wayne, Cooper, Flynn, Gable et al: When Giants walked the earth. We shan't see their like again
This two are my favorite couple. I miss them both. Together and apart. It is sad, to freemen remember those we have lost. Yet it is only in the flesh because we have them with us always. With this two their films remain, utube, the voices. I appreciate hearing her speak. When I was in cosmetologist school, I was older. In my 2 marriage not going well enrolled, husband going thru mental breakdown, Daughter on drugs, raising then a two year old grandson. We were posed a question in class who did we admire. I spoke of Katherine because of her faithfulness, her stubbornness because she lived what shebelieved. Her dress, her swims, her devotion. Yes such a woman tolook up to.
If there could ever be a time machine and there would ever be anything as an alterate or a parallel or a third world whatever it is.. I'd like, oh I'd very much WOULD love to unite kate and Spence together. A world where they'd be together, till the end.
Oh my , I should never have found this one. Such wonderful love from one human to another. I can only hope I have given my sweetpea the devotion to love me as much as Kate did Spencer. I know I have though, I see it everyday in her smile and eye's. To cast one's heart upon a river, to see one's heart set to quiver. I cast myself to the sea always knowing you will be with me. This was wonderful. Such a letter, So Katharine. May we never see devotion like this die, ever.
I first read this letter in her autobiography. Then I heard it, in her own voice, on her self-narrated audiobook and again in this video. It was heartbreaking each and every time.

Yes yes Katherine Hepburn was a true friend of Mr Tracy and I'm sure of the love and mutual respect for each other was unwavering...Her open letter to Spence was quite warm and heartfelt...Especially letting everyone know how she felt about his troubled life and now deep sleep...Very much a fan if both Kate & Spence with love and respect I give thanks for both entertainers life in show business... Thank for Everything R.I.P. ...
If you knew nothing about Kate and Spencer, you knew something was going on between the two on "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" In Kate Remembered, she talked about how the entire cast did everything they could not to break down in tears. I think the only time I cried at any of her movies was On Golden Pond when she told Henry Fonda he was her knight in shining armor. Spencer was her knight in shining armor..
Thank you, and yes, Spencer Tracy was an amazing actor and one of the best, nothing can rival him, and Katharine Hepburn was one of a kind as well, nothing can beat her immortality in the cinema.

by the ruins and dry and desolate darkness
of a world gone mad.
True Love is not lost, ... tho it be parted.
love triumphs over space & time
and the ruins of seeming endless failures... ~ lch 7/12/18
THEY HAD SUCH A FRIENDSHIP WOW R.I.P. SPENCER AND KATHERINE AMAZING HUMAN BEINGS
This is true love, this is the epitome of love. Thank you sharing, it brought me to tears. A phenomenal human being.
The world lost focus when this icon passed. As all the great ones who leave this world. The world loses the fuel from the soul of these icons. Katherine Hepburn we miss as love you.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner was one of my favorite - you could really see the connection between those two. I just loved watching both of them together.
What a gift he had in her -- someone who knew him so well, and loved him completely.
I know for a fact that all the true love you can't gather here on earth and all the beautiful promises you couldn't fulfill, are meant to be met for the other world.. I know this : Spence and Kate and together since 2003, I know it for a belief :") 💙
That moment was wonderful. To hear Katherine Hepburn speaking once again to the love of her life who had been gone from her all those long years. A letter from her heart to the man she loved so much and she shared that with all of us.
Her just sharing this all . A woman who loved another man beyond all time. Katherine did this. Imagine someone loving you this much.?
The letter makes me cry. I love them both, oh the wonderful movies they've both made together and apart.
Very well said.. I agree entirely
God, that was so touching...
It's such a relief to know that they're finally in heaven, together.
That is true love........RIP KH and ST.❤❤❤❤
They have always been favorite Hollywood couple ever. They reminded me of the love my Mom and Dad shared for each other.
Heart-wrenchingly beautiful !
It’s so beautiful to see how love looks from the outside..😘
How heartbreaking! Isn’t it sad that we live within our own personal Hell when life should be paradise?
I'm in tears because ? Yes she's gone but it must took the love she had and have for him and that she missed him so dearly. They both was the best of Hollywood no one is close ? Just watch their movie's. Gone but never forgotten never Ma & Pa. I feel them ❤️
Even at 11years old in 1967 I saw that love.
Deep human, romantic love and empathy is glorious, wonderful, ... and heartbreaking. they were the premier "movie star" couple. but Spencer was riddled with guilt and really something of a tormented soul. Kate fell in love with the greatness of his soul and talents. they were truly a great, great love-story. no doubt about it.
the last minute of this clip is enough to bring anyone to tears. just heartbreaking. how she wanted to see him happy and comforted in her arms.
She was so beautiful, all her life
that took my breath away....
True love. What a heartwarming, and..heartbreaking idea to write the love of your life a letter after their death. Kate IS great.
This is heartbreaking...It's obvious that she truly loved him regardless of whether or not he was married
oh wow... i can't stop crying.... i hope her and spencer r happy and together wherever they r....
Heart-breaking.
6:26 on - moving beyond words, and especially the last line.
Awe this was so Tender & Special... She really Loved him & was Devoted to Spence! My only Hope is they are Happy, & together again ❤️❤️❤️
I wish someone would cherish it as much as I do....She was blessed.
yeah I've seen that sculpture..she did a good.
I love Kate so much. Every time I see her in an interview I wish I had been born a couple decades earlier so I could have met her. Thanks for the video.
She was wonderful in everything. She was beautiful from start to finish
Her Eulogy for him..... Tender and touching.....
I think you'd be surprised how many young people love classic movies :) I wish more youth were interested in them though.
I can’t even imagine being in the room behind the camera for this. It would’ve been an overcoming emotion.
So powerful.
When she started listing his friends - dude was well connected af.
lol yeah he was..
He was an A-List Hollywood star.
He was the Hemingway of acting... simple on the surface, but so deep...I hope they are together now in love and peace
Oh my , I should never have found this one. Such wonderful love from one human to another. I can only hope I have
given my sweetpea the devotion to love me as much as Kate did Spencer. I know I have though, I see it everyday in her smile and eye's. To cast one's heart upon a river, to see one's heart set to quiver. I cast myself to the sea always knowing you will be with me.
This was wonderful. Such a letter, So Katharine. May we never see devotion like this die, ever.
3 years later and I am back - watching this again
I hope to be able to one day posses the clarity, insightful, and wisdom to evaulate the love of my life as articulately as Ms. Hepburn.
Seems I watched this four years ago and reaction is just the same.. Hepburn has all the feels bubbling away by the end of this.
I first read this letter in her autobiography. Then I heard it, in her own voice, on her self-narrated audiobook and again in this video. It was heartbreaking each and every time.
That was so beautiful.
Katie made me cry. I can't stand it. I love her so much and can't stand to see her cry - and now I'm bawling.
she said it all,i fight and endure life,i love it, spence got to play out life as a brilliant actor on screen, just could not do the same, in a real living life.
You folks move over and pass the tissues because I cried, too.
"Spence" died in Kate's house, with the woman he truly loved. She couldn't bear to see their last movie. Too many memories. So much love.
Kate and Spence, you are truly an inspritation to all.
I cried the whole way through watching this. I’ve never seen an actor be this vulnerable in front of the camera when they aren’t acting. Tremendous woman. One of the greatest of all time
I cried listening to that letter..
Well... 2 minutes into it.... Here comes the tears.
Thank you Katherine, bless you both so much. xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The last part always brings my soul to tears.
Spencer was her knight in shining armor..
this is devastating; can you see the sorrow in her eyes? my my...
Very touching
What a lovely couple, Katie was a lovely person rip both of you there love was majestic
Thank you, and yes, Spencer Tracy was an amazing actor and one of the best, nothing can rival him, and Katharine Hepburn was one of a kind as well, nothing can beat her immortality in the cinema.
this is simply too... touching... heart-rending.
oh kate, what an extraordinary woman she was. "spence" was blessed to have her. this is his one true eulogy, that was never read at his funeral because kate, ever the gracious lady, chose not to attend to respect his family. i hope he recognized her artistry as much as she did his.
Kate wrote this letter to him 18 years after his death.. She states this before she begins reading the letter
