Cooking on a budget is a brilliant idea, especially with how things are at the moment with food prices rising higher and higher. This is one of my favourite dishes, it's something my dad used to make us as kids as we were always on a very tight budget, so it brings back some wonderful memories. This is a classic 1980s meal that I remember eating as a young boy. We always had something like this on a Tuesday or Wednesday. It was right nice and I enjoyed dipping my chips in the egg yolk. Proper tasty. I'm the same as you when it comes to beans, I like them thick. Aldi Coral beans are the best. They don't have as much juice as the Heinz ones. When I cook beans I like to boil them down until they're like porridge. Yum yum. Big thumbs up
A few tips on Heinz Beanz because I've basically lived off those things for years now. Firstly, the "no added salt/sugar" tins dont actually put anything in to replace the salt and sugar they would usually have. So, I reccomend adding a pinch of salt/sugar to these to restore the flavour balance. The tomato sauce that comes with them is quite basic but also quite versatile. If you add BBQ sauce, you get BBQ Beans. If you add some cumin, chili and paprika, you get mexican style beans. Even adding a bit of garlic powder or any random herbs will usually make them more interesting. I always add a lot of black pepper to any combination. Secondly, don't microwave them. Beans can't be cooked properly in the microwava. The packet says that you shouldnt bring beans to boiling in a pan but this is clearly the best way to cook them. They only need to boil for around 3 minutes to go soft but the microwave doesnt scratch this. Make sure to stir regularly so the bottom beans dont burn. It's done when the sauce starts to look more gooey than watery and the centre is bubbling as well as the sides. Final tip, wash the pan out immediately after consuming. Sticky BBQ bean sauce dries like cement.

I'm not quite sure how I ended up subscribed to your channel, but here we are. I love it, reminds me of as a kid and my mum would make something weird, and the rule was just try it, and if you don't like it, you can have those crappy microwave nuggets, etc. So, as an adult, I appreciate your resourcefulness, and what my mom tried to do with what we had. I enjoyed the video, and I'm giving you 5/5, and I would totally nom this down. I work in the food industry in the states, and this really shows the way the BOH eats. We have 5 minutes maybe to eat something, usually sitting on a bucket or standing over a garbage can trying to see how fast you can swallow while pulling 12 hour shifts for crap pay. Something nice and home feel like this makes me happy, without making it too hard. I only recently discovered your channel, and I love it. I know I'm rambling, and I'm sorry, but if you invited me over, I'd hands down love to. Keep it up, not all food has to be pretty to be delicious. Don't let those jerks change how you work. Hiya love, just watched your video on egg, chips & beans. One of my favourites when I was going up. I tend to stay away from tinned beans as they are too watery & like you prefer them cooked like my nanna did. She would buy the cheapest beans (we grew up with Heinz) - nanna would cut an onion up & put it in with the beans then cook them slowly, on a low light, not letting them boil their arses out but gently, so the sauce thickens, and the onion softens and the beans turned softer & more tasty. Not knocking your cooking, just sharing a tip that takes beans to another level. Thanks for everything you do, tek care flower. David.
