That is a great painting of Central and Northern Australia, I have a new appreciation for the heavy transport industry and the service they provide. You have produced a very exciting picture of the life of the long haul operator. I salute you for the presentation, I have subscribed, and I am looking forward to more great commentary as you take me on my next road trip through the midland route. great work sir, stay safe.
Love the view from the cab. Feels like I’m there. Road trains are much more sophisticated since “Bertha”. She looked rugged and fierce. Now they are actually graceful and lovely to watch. Works of art. Thanks for the video.
Wow Mick I nearly didn't look at this video, I thought I'd already seen it, I still like your Roadtrain videos, I watch a guys Roadtrain videos from WA, home away from home, he drives for Toll, from Perth to port hedland and the pilbara here and there, Tony Ivanq Roadtrains, I am glad I started to watch this your video, thank you for it very very much. The best way to see them is to be going up there all the time or you happen to be lucky. And then a couple of weeks later the desert blooms. Keep the video coming mate!
Great presentation of a beautiful part of our country, I used to drive coaches around Australia now retired, cairns to Darwin then on to Adelaide was my favourite, watching your trips brings back great memories, always a pleasure chatting with road train drivers real gentleman of the outback highways
Greetings from Texas! It's amazing how much of the country you travel looks like west Texas, just a lot more of it down there. Here in Texas, we refer to it as "mile and miles of nothing but miles." Cheers mate! Happy travels.

Except kangaroos camels termite hills and tonnes of red dirt 😆 People think Africa is the driest continent But its actually Australia

Oh you blokes have got it easy, back in my day it was dirt from Pt Augusta to Kulgera and then onto the old WW2 (nearly) single track road from Alice Springs to Darwin - and that cambered heavily to both sides. 😆 Kingoonya was superseded by Marla Bore which back then was nothing but a few demountables. When it rained heavy the rush was to make the Pimba jump-up and clear the tablelands before they became a quagmire. If you happened to get stuck, most trucks carried a 'stiff bar' (metal bar with eyelets each end to connect to ring feeder) which would be used to connect to other trucks (trains) and then a, push me, pull you, system was utilised to get across and out of the bog. Memories huh? 😆 God bless you and stay safe out there 🇦🇺👍
Just came across your channel. Really well done video. Nicely broken up with views from above, from the drivers seat, etc. Some beautiful country there. Some reminds me of driving across the western US and others are obviously very unique to Australia. I drove over 3,000,000 miles in the US and can appreciate what you do. The Australian prime movers are by far the nicest in the world. Yes I could see myself quiet happily doing what you guys do, but that ship has sailed. Greetings and best wishes from Ireland ☘
You just don't realise how big Australia is until you leave the eastern seaboard and run up to Darwin and Weipa,Perth.best part of the trip to Darwin was from Darwin to three ways found the rest pretty boring.the trip I did to Weipa was awesome, different scenery all the time.good stuff Mick.
Hi Mick, great video’s. I have been fascinated by the trucking world of late - particularly in light of these zero emission trucks that seem to be on the horizon, but I have a lot of questions. Can I please ask a bunch of these questions about the economics of it all today with diesel? Like I believe your GCM limit is 115.5t - but what is it typically for your trips? How often do you have to refuel and how much do you refuel (I.e. does your load play a factor in how much fuel you put in ?). Cheers Rob from Perth.
Rob, the total GCM will determine the amount of fuel we use. Our total GCM can be as high as 125.5t although most of our loads for our run would come in around 80-90t. We refuel at Alice Springs, Darwin, Alice Springs and then Adelaide when we arrive back there. Each fuel fill is around 1,100 -1,200 litres per fill. Hope this is of some help to you.
I hopefully get teh australian passport soon and i am thinking about becoming a HC or MC driver in AUS. I have no experience or license yet but my plan was to maybe go to AUS to make the license to check if it suits me and if so start looking for job oportunitys and leaave my boring office job :) Aslo thats a beautiful Truck you got there.
Love the vids of the road I'm wanting to get into the truck scene at the moment I still have a 4L in NZ I'm really interested in getting my MC the heavy unit an extra trailers don't bother me it's snakes and spiders that get me oh and the heat haha how long do you think it will take for 1 to get into the road train, thanks for any info really appreciate it cheers
Thanks for that Mick, it really is beautiful country. Just wondering if you have a preferred truck, KW or the Mack, and what makes one better than the other in your opinion
Because we are a 2-Up Team, I would prefer the Mack over the Kenworth only because it is much more quieter inside the cab. The Kenworth has more room in the bunk plus a few more creature comforts than what the Mack has. At the end of the day one is as good as the other.
I drive buses in the Adelaide hills, we have 12.5m rigids 14.5m rigids and 18m articulated, like a 10.5 with trailer. Always drive from the rear wheels, but these are so much longer still need to plan ahead every bend and corner. Takes special skill to drive these. Can't believe a guy from school gave it up to remain unvaccinated.
Guess you'll figure it out when the truth will out. Here in UK, the government have been outed for using psychological tactics! They employed a nudge unit. People are having huge problems with their health. Stay safe, stay sane everyone.
I was just wondering about the equipment you use. I spent 20 years driving truck in the US and Canada, mostly 350+ hp motors with 9 or 10 sp transmissions, mostly with 53' trailers, occasionally with dual 28'6" trailers or even a 57' single. how long are those triples? 40'? 42'? Do you have extra air tanks to handle all those extra axles?
The total length of our triple Road Trains is 53.5 metres long. The trucks are rated to tow 3 trailers which means they are fitted up with the required air supply to allow them to do their job as expected.
I can not give a correct answer for you on that question as we do not use the roadhouses, we have our own meals onboard with us, sorry. The BP Truckstop in Darwin makes an excellent coffee though.
Your pretrip inspection must be long. When I was trucking here in the states I did an average 20 min inspection rarely had issues usually the truck stop would be able to fix a tire or replace a bulb if need be. Say you find a tire blows or something how long does it take for someone to find you and fix it? I’m assuming y’all don’t have truck stops every 40 min from each other.
Our trucks go into our own workshop after every trip so our pretrip checks are not that involved, basically lights and tyre amongst some other minor items. We change all of our own flat tyres as like you say, it would take too long for someone to find us. Once we leave our yards we are basically on our own unles it is a real major breakdown.
Love the drone shots Mick.....you are very apt with it for sure....:)
Thank you, glad you liked it. The drone adds to the video, that is for sure.👍
Nothing but respect for these drivers...be safe.
