The national civil rights museum is in Memphis! It is a very informative museum!

I love Lambert's. I haven't been there in years but, I tell people about it a lot. Thanks Jacob?
Who doesn’t love Popeye? Thanks for the side visit! Those hot dogs sounded amazing!

Seriously, this is your best idea yet! Love the choose your own adventure vibes.
Edit: I hope you get the chance, perhaps, to see the Fire Museum before you leave Memphis. It’s a very cute little off the beaten path place. But given your luck with museums I’m not expecting much 😂
Really enjoying your videos, Jacob! I've been a subscriber from almost the beginning. In my opinion, Jacob is the best USA travel vlogger on RUclips! Safe travels, Jacob!
imagine having a stuffed billiken greeting you on your bed when you get home though 🙃
Hi Carpetbagger have you ever heard of a town between Rochester and Buffalo NY called Albion here in upstate NY
I really do appreciate a town going all in on their local son like that, that's very sweet
AWESOME .... Keep warm and stay safe 😀😀👍👍
*Awesome video!*
That steak, gravy, rolls, fried potatoes and "tomato noodles" made me SO hungry!!
I live in Missouri and have never been to Lambert's! 😭
*Safe travels, Jacob!*
This was an awesome advertisement for Lambert's. I need to go there! So unique.
@@alianningson3829 I agree, Ali!
You NEED to go. The one in Sikeston is usually less crowded than the one south of Springfield. Nixa?????
I keep trying to talk hubby into going to the one in Foley AL
@@swearenginlawanda Your doll houses are so beautiful!

Wow, fully packed road show here. So much nice stuff to see and so many details known and told by our Guide, Carpetbagger. Absolutely one of the hights, for me, was that Missouri diesel freight train at around 27 minutes. Beautiful chord on that horn. Along with the rhythm of the wheels it made me think of Steve Reichs composition "Different trains" or maybe inspire to an entire new song. That is the sound of America.
Hah! And then president Taft. He sure has the same belly as the Billiken, but i doubt he would let anyone rub it for luck ...
My goodness, i have learned so much this episode. Appreciate it Jacob. You are one fabulous host!
All the characters are heavily represented (with the exception of the Jeep, Sea Hag, and Alice the Goon) in the live action Popeye movie with Robin Williams as Popeye. It is based heavily off the comic strip. Great tour of the Popeye statues!
My husband and I love your channel we have so many travels planned for the future that we found because of you! :)
For Memphis check out the pyramid shaped bass pro shop - it’s pretty cool
I think he did take us there once. A really cool place.
That stormtrooper hot dog now gonna be my goto when I'm at home alone
I used to go to the Lambert's in Ozark, MO all the time for get togethers and celebrations
I've been to lamberts when I was bit younger!!! Loved it and loved the thrown roll atmosphere
We love how hot dogs are becoming a theme on this journey of yours. If you ever come back up through New York City we should take you to a spot called Crif Dogs which has some fun hotdogs to try. Excited to see what Memphis has in store for you.
Go visit Jerry The King Lawler's restaurant and the Memphis Tennessee Aquarium
Great video, I enjoyed seeing all of the Popeye statues! To bad that museum was closed, that would be awesome to see!
Loved the great vlog. Great to see about Popeye. Brought back good memories from my childhood. Hope you get a new hat for your next chilly trip.
A little trivia about Bluto: His name was changed to Brutus in the TV cartoons because King Features Syndicate thought the name Bluto was copyrighted. Later on, they explained in the later Popeye comics that Bluto and Brutus were evil twin brothers to fix the mistake.
Thank you, I thought I was going crazy because I thought his name was Brutus 🤣
I was wondering why some of the cartoons had him named Bluto and others had him named Brutus. I never heard of them being evil twins though.
@@wendieherkamp8854 If the Popeye Museum is closed, is it because of the COVID-19 Pandemic?
@@erinloveswendy Seemed like it was just a typical January closure
@@GettingOutInLife The recent comic books from a few years ago established that Bluto had a twin brother Brutus.
Crystal Shrine Grotto and Mud Island River Park look cool!
MEMPHIS!! I'd say hit GONER RECORDS for a quickie...they have a coin operated Elvis Impersonator Shrine! The Center For Southern Folklore (somewhat tied into the shrine above) AND the Crystal Shrine Grotto ! The Bass Pro-Shop Pyramid. EAT AT PAYNE'S BBQ! Best chopped chicken sammy yer ever gonna' get in an abandoned transmission shop...
Oh man you made it to my hometown of Cape! Hope you enjoyed your visit. Keep up the awesome videos
Awesome, Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
Hello from Sikeston Missouri. Come on over here and have a throwed roll. Lol
Rockwell's "Somebody's Watching Me" playing while I'm watching him get side orders is next level.
Country singer Dale Watson runs Hernandoes Hideaway close to Graceland. Tons of Memphis music history in that building
Dyers in Memphis is a must stop!! It will not disappoint .
Glad to see you in my neck of the woods! Fun fact about Lamberts: they don't charge people with disabilities to eat there. I usually go there for my birthday because I'm a wheelchair user and I get a free meal.
You gotta see the pyramid in Memphis
hahaha this was so epic to watch. i love this kind of style your doing right now.
So glad to have seen you finally make it to Chester! You weren't too far from the Liberty Bell of the West
Wait,I have a question. The muscle guy in PJ bottoms didn't have a plaque or anything near or on it?Just a statue with no explanation?
The tour of the town of “Popeye” was very interesting. I love me some Lamberts. I fortunately live about an hour away from the one in Foley AL. I haven’t been there in awhile. Those rolls are amazing! I may have to go get some this weekend.
By the way, thanks for showing my hometown, Cape Girardeau, MO!
Never had a reason to go to Missouri except maybe Mark Twain. But Lamberts has reached out and touched my taste buds. Maybe rent a car and drive there this summer!
Jacob I would love to see any Wax museums !!!! Keith
I love all wax museums too.
Here a list of things you have to do or eat in Memphis, Tennessee: Graceland, The Arcade Restaurant, Shelby Farms, Sun Studio, Orpheum Theatre, A. Schwab, Sfax Museum of American Soul Music, The Peabody Ducks, Memphis Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum, Memphis Botanic Garden, Statue of Elvis, and the best hotdogs in Memphis; Memphis Dawgs. Have a great time Jake!
Hasn't he already been to most of those places ?
@@applevalleyhillbillygarden1093 Not sure yet Apple Valley.
This video was so much fun!! I loved learning more about Popeye. I always enjoyed Popeye as a kid . Lamberts was deliciously amazing 😋😋🤩🤩
These videos have convinced me to visit Saint Louis, looks like so much fun
Wow! Thank you for solving a 47 year old mystery. As a kid, I lived in a neighborhood in Maryland and there was a home that had 2 of those statues sitting on a bench on the front porch. One was blue and the other pink. They were about 25 inches tall. My friends and I use to pretend they were alien babies and we called them the mongshines. We use to make up creepy stories about them to scare each other. I use to wonder what they really were all about.
Hope you enjoyed Lamberts!! I live just a few blocks behind the restaurant. Love their rolls!!!!!
I love the fact that on Castor Oyl's statue, it says in memory of Jeremy Brett who played Sherlock Holmes from 1984-1994 for Granada TV in the UK.
Steve's Hot Dog is a new institution in STL, the owner is the former lead singer of the band The Urge. He is a really nice guy as well anytime I have been in there and he is working he has a smile on his face and chatting with everyone.
Yes, MEMPHIS! It will be warmer there. National Civil Rights Museum is GREAT, also would love to see what is happening on Beale Street. But, every place in Memphis is great :)
The last time I was at Lamberts was back in 2003. I had just graduated from high school and my family took a trip to Branson, MO and we stopped at Lamberts for dinner on the way. I remember the servers being more aggressive with the roll throwing. 🤣
I loved the videos you did on St. Louis, Mo. I live in a small town about 60 miles east of there called Centralia, Illinois. We have a small train museum here. It was nice seeing something in your videos that were very familiar to me.
Memphis Crosstown Concourse, Civil rights museum, Stax museum, Victorian Village, Arcade restaurant
Mark twain, my family & proud, ♥️.
Oh you HAVE to go to Eureka Springs!! It is the neatest most eclectic town, it is right up your alley!
Get some Rendevous ribs in Memphis! Drive safe, Carpetbagger. Also, the other Popeye statue is in Alma, Arkansas.
I live like 20 minutes from Sikeston do I need to go and see if they have your hat, and mail it to you? LOL.
This is actually a great idea.
Oh, how I miss Lamberts!!! Thank you for giving me a look
I don't know about the comics, but Bluto was a sometime love interest of Olive Oyl in the cartoon. He had a soft spot for her, and was shown to be a direct rival to Popeye on occasion.

Wow so much Info today enjoyed it so much ☺️☺️🙂 Popeye was one of my favorite cartoons growing up have a great day tomorrow ❣️❣️❣️
Adding the entire town of Chester, IL as a must visit for photography and experience.
I googled to see the best things to do, first one i saw was a horseback tour or maybe the nightime walking ghost tour, whatever you do I’m sure it’ll be fun x
Oh, I vote for ghost tour! Great idea! 👻
I go to college in Cape and it’s so cool that you visited there, wish I could’ve gave you a tour.
I Now have found a Favorite Town I Now Love the Town of Chester. I Love Popeye and All the Old Characters. Thank you for Sharing this Awesome Video and Sharing Popeyes History
7:29 is exactly how I feel after wisdom teeth removal. Thanks Carpetbagger for the recovery content I'll be watching in the future! 😊
This is an epic road trip! So awesome!
Food looked great man!! Great video today!!
Popeye took over the strip the same way that Snuffy Smith who showed up briefly in Barney Google eventually took over. Snuffy was instantly popular and written in to the dailies that after time he ended up replacing Barney Google entirely. Barney Google even had a song, "Barney Google with the Goo Goo Googly eyes".
You're my favorite RUclipsr and came to my town!!!! Wish I had known!!!!
Eureka Springs, AR!!!
It is our to do list once it gets warmer.
My favorite thing in Memphis was the Stax Museum. It's worth it for Isaac Hayes's Cadillac alone.
Jacob, eat at Elwood shack in Memphis. Breakfast lunch or dinner is all good. A hole in the wall small place but food has great punch
“ I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today “ -Wimpy
I live in Illinois. I'm going to put Chester on my list to visit. I hibernate in winter pretty much. I did just take a vacation in Florida this month, but getting out in the cold is rough.
Thanks CB! Great video :)
Jacob, why is it that every time I watch one of your videos, I always end up eating snacks or fried unhealty products? 😁🤣😉
That’s an interesting version of the Billiken story. We’re a SLU family and love him very much. If you’re ever in Alaska you’ll find Billikens there too. This might be our favorite video! Thank you!
Such cool tribute to Popey the sailor man, 'toot toot' :D
You did the same trick that I did in my Gainesville video with the train passing by. Yours was a bit more extreme and cracked me up. Made my day!
I didn't think the train would ever end.
@@alianningson3829 We’ve got some long one that take forever to pass by.
Love seeing the food reviews!
I have ate at all 3 Lambert's and always get the Country Fried Steak.. It is a great place but really busy on the weekends.
The Wikipedia on Chester indicates they've been adding a statue every year for a few years.
Great video , looks interesting restaurant & good eating !
My grandma is from sikeston. The tossed rolls I’ve heard about first hand.
Two definite things to do in Memphis, TN, you need to do the Bass Pro Shop Pyramid, and Peabody Hotel (to see the ducks! 🦆)
Your my hero.. Carpet bagger!
I would definitely recommend the Stax museum .
I'm from Columbia, MO. Went to Hickman High School who has the Kewpie as its mascot. Definitely unique, in fact, only school in the world with the Kewpie as its mascot!
I used to live in St. Louis. Hope you didn't miss the Collinsville IL giant Catsup bottle. Always nice to see when your on that side of the river.
If you watch his route 66 road trip, he does.
I’m surprised there’s not a Wimpy’s hamburger restaurant in this town, seems like it would do well?
I really liked the train shot! I have family that's worked for BNSF for 60 years combined. Also a big fan of Lambert's I can eat the fried okra and macaroni and tomato's all day long.
This has been awesome!
Memphis Zoo? I haven't been there since I was a little kid in the late 70s. If I ever get the money (and a friend willing to drive for me) I would really like to revisit some of the placs from my youth.
I love ur videos
Thank you for another AWESOME AWESOME VIDEO!
Chester sure did the full run on Popeye. Great town.
So I looked away for a second, heard a train horn, looked back at the video and I see a train going like 100 MPH. It took me a moment to realize you were speeding up the footage. That will teach me to look away from a Carpetbagger video! 😄
love these videos
You gotta check out Third Man Records!! It's a record shop/recording studio/novelty shop owned by Jack White from the White Stripes. Lots of cool novelties to see!
Surreal and disturbing in the Popeye/Olive cut out - keep it up
Very a cool vlog from St Louis. Liked the statue park. Put this on as I was eating a Nathan’s hot dog for dinner. After watching you eat hot dogs I had to have one. Looking forward to your adventure in Memphis. Safe travels sir!
Whew the last time I ate there, they gave me so much food I ended up taking THREE FULL BOXES home after I was dead full. Took me 3 days to eat everything.
There's also a really amazing Original Fried Pie Shop next door that sells fruit and savory pies from their store(or the gas station by it if they're closed)!
