      Absolutely. That was an incredibly problematic way to address what happened. He seemed to immediately realize this, and back track, but I felt that he could have addressed this error more head-on. It was upsetting.

    Been sober 4yrs from Oxcy that turned to fentanyl. Mark these videos played such a vital role in my recovery. During covid these were my meetings. All the comments of everyone success stories were my motivation. So thank you and everyone here. Y’all have helped so so many people.

    I remember Catra from back in the day at the SF and SJ goth clubs. She was a bit older, and I was always in awe of how beautiful she was. Fast forward to today, and I see she's a million times more beautiful! Such a positive and inspirational soul.

      Giving Mark the benefit of the doubt here, I think he meant to prompt her to describe the scenario. It's possible that they spoke prior to the interview and he just wanted to get her to describe the feelings and details of the abuse further. She didn't seem taken aback or offended by the questions, moreso engaged and willing to describe the situation to Mark and the viewers. At least, I hope that was the intention here.

      Thanks for that explanation, Keenan. And, I see Mark gave your comment a thumbs up, so it must have rung true to him. I've been a fan of the channel for years and I know Mark's intentions and heart is always in a good place. But, as an SA survivor, I gotta say, those were not good prompt questions. Maybe he could edit the questions out for the sake of other SA survivors in the audience and consider it a learning experience? Again, thanks for your response.

      Many people, if not all people, get into hard times in family or outside family with friends etc, and MOST of them do NOT get addicted to anything, so how does it happen that YOU did??

    She looks 15 years younger than her actual age. Her passion for running, physical activity, veganism... sobriety looks great on her!
    Recovering iv heroin & məth addict here...hearing stories like this gives me hope that a full recovery is possible, as long as we want it just a TAD bit...we can do it and not have to settle for a life less than we deserve.

      In many other podcasts, Mark has consistently said two things:
      A) He’s a one man band. He’s doing lighting, sound, video and Q & A.
      B) He’s a professional photographer, not an interviewer.
      So instead of lighting your hair on fire over words you heard said on the inter-web, and being offended when the lady hear clearly wasn't, get up and go help some people like Mark has.

      Ok you can stop repeating this now. He’s been doing this job for years, hundreds if not thousands of hours interviewing sexual abuse victims. If he’s just a photographer and too uneducated to not know what he is saying - he needs to get off this platform. It’s dangerous and disgusting to blame victims of sexual assault.

    Thank you both for this interview. As a nearly 50 year-old ultra-runner, I can definitely attest to the physical and spiritual healing powers of running and exercise. I first saw Catra interviewed maybe a decade ago on Bryant Gumbel's show, and she looks every bit as healthy and vibrant today. She embodies beautifully the quality of her own inspirational words.

    I’m 6 years clean and sober. Just ran my second LA marathon in march and plan on running the LA marathon every year here on out! Would love to do an ultra one day. Great video! Congratulations to everyone recovering from addiction here.

    Mark - WTF with asking her “how did you let this happen” when she’s talking about being molested at age 9?! Come TF on. And then when she explains you say “oh well that understandable then.” You aren’t being asked to judge whether it’s understandable. She was a vulnerable child. Do better. Jeezus.

    I have met more former drug addicts in the ultra world that I had ever known in my regular life. I am not sure what it is about these ultra distances that attracts those types, but I can tell you in general folks in the ultra world are some of the most supportive and inclusive people I have ever met. Keep it up Catra! Such an inspiration to so many.

      Maybe. I googled Catra; no pictures of her in a tutu. From the interview, it seems she only does ultra marathons now.

      I actually never ran Boston . I don’t run Marathons, especially on road . I’m mostly a trail ultra runner . My favorite distance is 200 mile races but I do run a lot of 100 milers to train for the 200s 🫣

    You are an amazing athlete, the way you changed your life from one of certain death to living the best life is so inspiring!!     It’s so crazy how many ways childhood sexual abuse can negatively affect your life. In my case I couldn’t get away from the person because it was my dad. You bottle everything up as long as you can but eventually you start to crack. I lasted till my mid 20’s, then one day I just broke down. I’m 56 now and have dealt with serious depression since then, along with the addictive issues that come from trying to cope. It’s a horrible thing to go through.

    15 minutes in and I can identify with so much already.. I am in long term recovery ( 13 years ) and found long distance running in 2020 and it has changed my life .. I am so inspired by women like Catra, the longer you run the more you learn about yourself and how to not react to all the ugliness and negativity in this world .

    I love these videos and please don’t attack me for saying this, but I got triggered when Mark asked her at 4:08 “how did you allow that to happen “ in the beginning of this interview. I am sure he didn’t mean it in that way, but I was abused in my late teens. She was only nine, so I imagine that she had much of a choice, or a way to really understand and defend herself. Other than that, great story- great interview- great way to show other addicts that there is hope for recovery, health, healing and happiness!

      A) He’s a one man band. He’s doing lighting, sound, video and Q & A.
      B) He’s a professional photographer, not an interviewer.

    Catra is an absolutely Amazing, Beautiful, Positive and Strong woman who I met 25 years ago when I was working at a Tanning Salon in Mill Valley. She has been an inspiration to me for so many years now! I will be 63 in September and although I’ve never run further than 26.2 miles multiple times..I just placed 2nd in my age group here in Hua Hin Thailand where I live for running the Hua Hin Half Marathon! 46 years of running and Catra..you just help keep me going girl!       I have a friend who started running one night to clear his head, and he ran til dawn. One of his buddies let him know about ultra-marathons. 100 miles is quite the accomplishment - whether someone foodies it once or 100 times.

      @@jaepcam You don't know that. Lots of people dump one addiction for another. For example, there is even a term for it when someone gives up alcohol for some other non-alcohol addiction, it's called being a "dry drunk." (My dad was one. Everyone said, "Good for you, turning your life around, doing all this healthy stuff." But we never saw him. We saw him no more than we did when he was drunk in the bar every night.)

      @@lisahinton9682there definitely is a thing called symptom substitution. In Catra’s case, she’s been drug free for YEARS now. The physical dependence on drugs is long gone. She has healthy habits now, as well as knowledge and maturity. I think the running as habit is fine for her.

      Except for his unacceptable questions to her about “if she wanted it and how did she allow it to happen” when discussing her being molested at 9 years old. Completely non-empathetic and insensitive questioning. She should have stopped the interview right then and there.

    I stopped eating meat around 12. My grandparents had a big farm in Montana. Raise cattle to butcher. I'm 53 and still have not touched meat. Wish you the best.

    Just rewatched the video. What a sweet lady, so cheerful and upbeat. Great interview, Mark, and what a difference from watching Rebecca scream and rant about what you should do and buy him while he’s falling off the stool, spitting, and picking his filthy feet, or overweight, illiterate prostitutes talk about how good looking they are.
    I don’t miss Rebecca at all, and videos like this sure bring a better atmosphere to your channel. Catra is a breath of fresh air, cute as can be, in great shape, and not once played the victim or talked about how gorgeous she is!! What a refreshing video. Thanks for sharing. 😊

    I like the interview, simply because it reminds me of when I used to run in the ’90s. All those marathons, 10Ks, and setting new personal bests. I can relate to getting sober, I'm 7 plus years sober.

    Fun interview, Catra!
    So happy for you that you faced your challenges in life straight on and prevailed over them. I lived in Maine (until mid 20s), I signed up for a running class at USM. That was the BEST thing I ever did for my health, was taught how to run properly/safely. I got into it! Not like you but made a lot of friends and we ran in groups. Joan Benoit lived in my area and she was my inspiration. I used to see her occasionally when Id be running down Cottage Road in So. Portland, on my way to Portland Head Light (she is originally from Cape Elizabeth). Listening to your interview today makes me wish I had stayed with it longer. Not sure if my knees would handle it as well as you, lol.

    My brother has run in races with this lady. One that comes to mind is the Javelina Jundred, in which my brother came 3rd. I will ask him if he has ever met her. They are both inspirations for being able to persevere like this.

    Four years sober next month off Meth. Was on Methadone 8 years, came off that month after getting sober in July 2020. We do recover.

    Beautiful story and beautiful soul..I’m in addictive addiction and balled my eyes out..even as a 43 yr old male such similar stories..started off smoking pot drinking etc..I hate my life and want too change..I just don’t wana embarrass my daughter or family..I’m from England but just so so sad in life.     Her skin looks phenomenal for her age especially considering her history of drug use and exposure to the sun due to running. I know she says she's careful about sunscreen and wearing hats but that stuff melts off you when you're running for hours in a hot sun and you have to be very vigilant about constantly reapplying .

      Yup I always have a small tube with me . Also lip sunscreen too my lips get trashed .
      In multi day races my crew will remember to apply it on me a few times a day . The hat , glasses and buff around the neck make a big difference.
      If it’s a hot race I wear a sun hoodie

      I live a healthy life style eat a clean vegan diet and use great vegan skin care products. The running and weight training helps too. I count my blessings that drugs didn’t age me like my friends.
