Gorillaz has a lot of fantastic songs with powerful lyrics and melodies, and for some reason, Cloud of Unknowing always seemed the most emotional to me. Despite it being a relatively simple song.

I was trying to find my favorite Gorillaz album and it came down to Demon Days and Plastic Beach. This song was the deciding factor and once I had heard it, I knew that Plastic Beach was my favorite. Never before have I heard such a wonderful piece of music. Thank you Gorillaz for what you have given me.

Gorillaz is a mother for every generation. They grow up the 00's kids, the 10's kids and now the 20's. It's no wonder that everyone loves them. Amazing.
Criminally Underrated. This should be talked about among Empire Ants, and On Melancholy Hill. It really hits different, and gives vibes like no other song in history. I've never heard anything like this. Thank you Gorillaz for all you have given us, Rest in Peace Bobby

Rest in peace to my beloved cat who passed away this morning at 14. I bursted in tears when this song came out in my playlist while he was in emergency room and I’d already prepared for the worst. Makes me think of all the sweet memories with him, and of his journey to pets heaven where his soul can finally rest in peace. There are no words to describe how I’m gonna miss you, Mo.

This has so many meanings, but it personally makes me think of the days I've spent with close friends, only to forget what happened. To take advantage of what could be a beautiful memory
One of my favorite songs on this masterpiece. Sad to say this was Bobby's last song he ever sang on. Gives me goosebumps it's such a beautiful song, mixing is so good, and his voice fits the song perfectly.
For the first time in a couple years, "Cloud of Unknowing" gave me chills!
Apparently, in the 14th century, a nameless Christian mystic in England wrote a book called "The Cloud of Unknowing." I wonder if that's what the title of this song is referencing.
It’s to specific a phrase to not be related to that subject.

Pretty sure that person would have had a name though.
I guess it may as well be. Damon has said that he is a spiritualist, but he does not follow any orthodoxy. The underlying tone and message of the book seems to be about abandoning conventions and accept yourself to a realm of unknowing, where you may find the nature of God. I am personally not religious, but this resonates with me so much for my spiritual journey, whether there is one or not.

My personal headcanon is that Plastic Beach is meant to be Murdoc grieving Noodle (since he thought she had died back on El Manana) and expressing that grief through the lyrics.
