On the cloud of unknowing My world seems open Every satellite up here is watching But I was here from the very start Trying to find a way to your heart All the days are forgetting They've gone out with the tide Lost at sea somewhere, waiting Like setting suns at the rodeo Trying to find someone you'll never know Oh, sinking love On the cloud of unknowing Every satellite up here is waiting Waiting to see what the morning brings May bring sunshine on its wings
Gorillaz has a lot of fantastic songs with powerful lyrics and melodies, and for some reason, Cloud of Unknowing always seemed the most emotional to me. Despite it being a relatively simple song.
@@elenaofavalormoanadisneypr6893 What the fuck is it with you and Bobby Womack and Same Cooke? I've seen you on countless videos of Gorillaz songs with him and you act like he fucked your girl or something.
I was trying to find my favorite Gorillaz album and it came down to Demon Days and Plastic Beach. This song was the deciding factor and once I had heard it, I knew that Plastic Beach was my favorite. Never before have I heard such a wonderful piece of music. Thank you Gorillaz for what you have given me.
Gorillaz is a mother for every generation. They grow up the 00's kids, the 10's kids and now the 20's. It's no wonder that everyone loves them. Amazing.
Criminally Underrated. This should be talked about among Empire Ants, and On Melancholy Hill. It really hits different, and gives vibes like no other song in history. I've never heard anything like this. Thank you Gorillaz for all you have given us, Rest in Peace Bobby
When I close my eyes and listen to this song, I imagine I'm floating on my back in the ocean, staring up at the night sky while shooting stars are flying by.
Rest in peace to my beloved cat who passed away this morning at 14. I bursted in tears when this song came out in my playlist while he was in emergency room and I’d already prepared for the worst. Makes me think of all the sweet memories with him, and of his journey to pets heaven where his soul can finally rest in peace. There are no words to describe how I’m gonna miss you, Mo.
This song to me speaks to such a deep loneliness, the kind where you're not sure it'll ever end, you're not sure if you'll ever find someone. To anyone out there who feels this way, you will find love, I know it. Instead of looking for the one you need, look for one that needs you. You must give before you can receive
Literal chills I feel really emotional listening to this maybe because i miss someone i loved but at the same time i didn't know they loved me or not and i keep on this tiny hope that can be destroyed at every moment
"Every set of light up here is watching, waiting to see what the morning brings." Makes me think about how ever single person in your blood line to come before you is in the sky watching you, waiting for you to become what they know you can be. Uncles, Aunts, grandparents, great grandparents, ancestors, they're all cheering you on for you to bring the people of your time a better tomorrow. You can't give up now. Everyone is rooting for you.
"All the days are forgetting They've gone out with the tide" This has so many meanings, but it personally makes me think of the days I've spent with close friends, only to forget what happened. To take advantage of what could be a beautiful memory
One of my favorite songs on this masterpiece. Sad to say this was Bobby's last song he ever sang on. Gives me goosebumps it's such a beautiful song, mixing is so good, and his voice fits the song perfectly.
Apparently, in the 14th century, a nameless Christian mystic in England wrote a book called "The Cloud of Unknowing." I wonder if that's what the title of this song is referencing.
I guess it may as well be. Damon has said that he is a spiritualist, but he does not follow any orthodoxy. The underlying tone and message of the book seems to be about abandoning conventions and accept yourself to a realm of unknowing, where you may find the nature of God. I am personally not religious, but this resonates with me so much for my spiritual journey, whether there is one or not.
May bring sunshine on its wings. Sinking love. Trying to find someone, you never know. Such a frail and distant hope. A prayer, and a resignation. Somewhere over the endless ocean of time and space, there is a new dawn waiting. Kicks my feels right in the nads.

this is really nice. I’m thinking considering how apparently Murdoc “wrote” this album, if the lyrics in certain songs like this one is directly referring to a certain something or someone
My personal headcanon is that Plastic Beach is meant to be Murdoc grieving Noodle (since he thought she had died back on El Manana) and expressing that grief through the lyrics.
