This is my favorite generation of Ford Escape all because this design even existed as early as 2001

1:23 Back in 2001 this was “slightly bland styling”. Nowadays we want this back (well I anyway)!

I have a 2005 White XLT. His name is 'Fred'. Had him for over 15 years and have always used 5w-20 synthetic. Have 126Kmi on 'Fred' now; one of the best vehicles I've owned in over 35 years. Steering, handling and braking (4-wheel discs) are outstanding. Even overall handling feel is great. I've had Porsche 944s, C4 Vettes, SVO, xr4ti (manual) and a CRX Si; this Escape has better steering and brake feel - but mileage ain't great! (17mpg to 22 mpg). Fred does Everything very well and is like a 'buddy'. Well, less wind noise and better mileage - or those damn door-panel inserts!

The 2.0 manuals would go over 200,000 miles with no major issues. They were also easier to work on compared to the V6.

ive got a 2001 escape xlt in the dark red color. I love it so much. Its only got 87,000 miles on it with no major issues! The car has only been owned by one other person than me, and they barely drove it at all.

been daily driving a 2001 escape xlt for a while, great suv but motorweek got some stats wrong here. control trac ii 4wd is 100% front 0% rear and 50- 50 when the front wheels slip. with 4x4 ON it engages the clutch in the rear for a locked 50-50 torque split, on dry roads you will get driveline binding with 4x4 on. also the ground clearance is way more than 7.8". the lowest point on the entire vehicle is 8.5" (tip of the front control arm) the rest of the vehicle is well over 10"

Rusters but they were a nice package when new.Bought a used 2005 Mercury Mariner as a beater for $1200 with 150000 miles on it about 5 years ago and got a year on it before the rust monster and a bad catalytic converter finished it off.

As a Floridian I watched the opening with them driving it through the surf. All I could think was that thing's a rust bucket in three years, tops.
