I have the same kit and they still haven't corrected the instructions about the rear brackets, glad for your video and glad I just tack welded brackets in place
Thanks for showing the steps for the installation of the kit and the "problems" that occur during real life work. I appreciate your honesty when you present the videos. It happens to me too! Thanks for the video Rick
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I couldn’t make heads or tails of the written instructions and started a RUclips search. I am thrilled that you did this video. I am transferring a 35 pickup onto a new frame w/ new engine, tranny and rear end. You just saved me many hours of frustration Thanks again! 👍👍👍
The importance of mocking up everything. Kind of like never tighten any of your bolts until all are in. Never weld until all is fitted. I have a 39 Ford coupe and I'm looking at tci's triangulated four link set up. Good video of one of these kits. Keep Rocking!!!
thanks much extremely helpful putting this kit in dads 40 sedan with a 1953 331 caddy motor w/ tri power and a t-5 tranny. tci doesnt supply regular springs anymore i wanted the old school ones not the parabolic ones great video so far getting all the rivets out of center x member for the trans to go through has been most challenging with the body on the frame we also had to repair the small frame rot holes
Hi Rick, really interesting Video. Not everybody stayed to his Mistakes. And everyone can see that's not easy to do all the work on Cars, even for People who do it years.Great thumb up.
I put a '49 chev pickup front leafs into a 36 Ford I had once. Grind the rivets and take the hangers- all bolt in. Removed a few leafs i recall. Cheap and was a good ride but I'm old school I guess. Those old truck are everywhere.
Hi from Sweden ! Great videos , I like your style , no nonsense ,just down to earth hard work, Great inspiration for my own builds : ) Restoring a 1957 Ford custom 300 atm . that previous owner took to pieces and abandoned
+TACUTTING Hello to you in Sweden! Thanks very much and I'm glad this channel gives me the opportunity to hear from people all over the world, that is so awesome! I'm building my own '58 Ford (not sure if you've seen any of those vids) I'd love to see pics of your build. Sorry to hear about the previous owner but at least she's in the right hands now. Take care and thank for writing in.
That's the same kit i used on my 39 ford tudor sedan your right it's awesome I put a lincoln 9 inch disk brake diff in mine works great . Good video You guys are great!!!. Gary.
I am putting a 65 comet 8" rear end under a 36 ford sedan. The axle tube is a diameter of 2.8. I understand the u bolts are for 3" tube. I should be able to use the the ubolts as there is not that much difference? Good video thanks.
Oh, the good old days!!! Big question is "how did you determine the six degree angle for the diff??? Frame "level"?? Doesn't it also matter what angle the motor is set at?? There is supposed to be a relationship between the two, no???
I'm putting the same TCI setup on my 40 Ford. Their instructions are horrible. I ran into the same issue you did with the rear leaf attachment. I'm also wondering about how the bottom shock attachment plate goes. Their instructions show the dog ear pointing down. You installed yours with it up. I think that's the correct way it goes. I don't see how you can get the shock to extend that far. And if it did I'm wondering how effective it would be. Thanks for your videos. Keep up the excellent work and keep the videos coming.
+Michael French The ear faces up - you're right - the shock won't fit if the ear points down - we ran into the same bloody thing and yes the instructions ARE horrible! hahaha glad we could help you out!
The customer supplied the kit and wanted it installed. The Merc diff stayed in, so no it wasn't too wide. We just changed the leaf springs etc. In my opinion there was nothing wrong with the old stuff, but I'm a traditional hot rodder and don't upgrade for the sake of upgrading. The TCI stuff will be a little stiffer and perhaps a little better ride but in my opinion in this particular application with it being a rag top I doubt you'd notice much difference. Hope that helps explain a bit. I do think it lowered the car a bit as well if I remember correctly but it wasn't a drastic difference and there are other ways of lowering a car if you want to avoid the expense of a TCI kit.
I ain't never seen a project that did'nt have a fuck up or 2 that ya would'nt have to drink a couple beers and take it apart an redo. gotta have an excuse ta drink once in a while. good job any hoo.

You are welcome
Did you use the 3" diameter ubolts supplied with the kit? What was the diameter of the axle tube you used?
Oh, the good old days!!! Big question is "how did you determine the six degree angle for the diff??? Frame "level"?? Doesn't it also matter what angle the motor is set at?? There is supposed to be a relationship between the two, no???
Yes motor and tranny must be on same playing field
Nice kit for sure. Good how to tips as well. Thanks Rick.
+Cheator40 glad you liked it cheator40. Thanks for watching

+Tom Kline yes it is, I just need to slow down a bit. lol
From one fab-mech to another fab-mech you need to say fuck more! World's best stress reliever! Lol. Great vid!
that's a first! Everyone's always telling me to cut down on the f-bombs!
was that TCI kit fundamentally better than what was there? is it lower? was the mercury axle too wide? did you need a different ratio? why?
The customer supplied the kit and wanted it installed. The Merc diff stayed in, so no it wasn't too wide. We just changed the leaf springs etc. In my opinion there was nothing wrong with the old stuff, but I'm a traditional hot rodder and don't upgrade for the sake of upgrading. Off topic, but what is your best way to remove old bronze brazing?
+iwbuck it melts at a fairly low temp and grinds out fairly easy. Maybe send us a pic so we can help you a bit better. oldtimegarage@hotmail.com
