- To compose the score of Ryan Coogler's seminal "Black Panther", composer Ludwig Göransson spent a month in Africa researching the local sounds and instruments. Contrary to most (or rather, all) superhero movies, this score implements traditional African instrumentation such as the talking drum, the Fula flute, the sabar drum, the kora and the vuvuzela, as well as traditional African rythms that correspond to the situations portrayed in the movie. On top of establishing individual musical identities for the main characters, as superhero films tend to do, Göransson also established specific sounds for each of the fictional tribes.

I love Ludwig incorporated both traditional African music and hip hop/urban music into the soundtrack. It's truly a unique and beautiful mix.
0:51 puts a massive grin on my face and turns me into a giddy child, one of my favorite marvel score ever! SO PUMPED
Black Panther was more of a movement than an ordinary film fare. I'm glad that it delivered on all cylinders doing away with minor flaws.
I’ve been a fan of Black Panther for a few years now since and I swear I nearly flipped out when I heard he was getting his own movie. However, one thing I was worried about was the soundtrack. The MCU has only a few memorable scores in my opinion, my personal favorite being the Avengers theme ( obviously ) and a few others like the Captain America theme, but I can’t name a few off the top of my head that I can distinguish the score and recognize it instantly. With Black Panther, it would be a completely different kind of style, and then when I saw the movie...good god I was blown away. Not only did the composer bring in an essence of hip hop and tribal instruments to the score, it felt exactly like it should feel. ROYAL, LARGER THAN LIFE, yet also sad at the same time. I love this theme & movie so much! And I always crank up the volume at 0:45 when the music picks up.
Bp probably has the best marvel track out of anyone.

Iron man 3 and Thor the dark World theme are off the mark
Easily the best film score out of all the Marvel movies. The music sent chills down my spine the first time I saw it.

Doctor Strange and Ant-Man and the Wasp have great scores as well.

This gave me so much life that I didn't even know I needed. It's just so spectacular. I was taken aback and filled with so much excitement when I heard it in Avengers. I literally got up and shouted "WAKANDA FOREVER" while the movie was playing and almost got ran out. I Love this theme so much, It's just so amazing and well composed.

When a film score can stand on its own, it's a master piece. We don't need to see the film to be moved by it. It proclaims Africa Triumphant. If it isn't awarded an Oscar, there is no justice.

One of the greatest films ever. Whoever that says otherwise clearly needs some historical lessons. CGI could've be been better but Matrix's, 300s, Titanic's, among others are just as bad of not worse. Good job!

the percussion is from Senegal, and this rythmic style is called "Mbalakh" and specially "walo walo"
We also use the percussion in Western Nigeria🇳🇬. We call it gangan

I liked this well enough cause I appreciate the African vibe, but I was pretty disappointed that this seemed to replace his theme from Civil War. I would’ve preferred that they kept this as Wakanda’s theme and developed Black Panther’s music from CW into a fully fledged theme.
I agree. I think that they should have done what Wonder Woman did for her movie. They did create an original score, but still managed to incorporate her BVS theme into the music.
Keeping a good theme is always a smarter choice than creating a wholly new one that’s only marginally better, if that.
Just look at the Xmen films.
His Civil War theme was forgettable, this is a huge step up.
