This does look nice, but I think I'm holding out for the 2600+ I have a large collection of cartridges and there is nothing like snapping in a game and playing. I want to keep my "regular" 2600 in shape to hopefully give to my grandkids some day. If this does go on sale for a decent price I will also add it to my collection. I have most of the Atari Flashbacks as well as most of the TV Plug N Play games, so why not. Congratulations on the success of your channel. And to think I knew you when.... OK, I just subscribed a couple of months back, but glad I did.
You can use any xbox controller (or any that does Xinput over wire) so you aren't stuck with those controllers. I'm fairly sure the VCS (the modern console) game pad would work as well if you need all your branding to match.
I think you should mention the SD Card addition on the unit. You can add your own roms in a folder that you put on an SD Card and insert into the unit. This would let you add all the games that you are missing from the 200+ included.
@Pojr I cannot recall how I found your channel.. Think one of the other Retro RUclipsrs I follow name dropped you... Love your content though! I especially like how Simple and honest it is... You are not trying to be Fancy ... You are just You, A Guy who loves his Retro Tech and Games!
The Night Driver arcade game did not have analog control. It had a spinner like control, you could spin that steering wheel continuously, it didn't have stops. This is similar to spinner like on Tempest of Omega Race which have several contact "switches" and it gets the time and direction between switch points to translate to how fast you turn.
So, if the Atari 2600 version was to have been accurate it should have used the driving controller. Not sure why, except that they confused the market being to similar to the paddle controller, but they didn’t come in pairs for some reason.
What you're saying is it's simulating an Analogue signal using digital signal timing. OK but it still feels like an analogue controller when you're using it.
I discovered your channel about 5 months when I shattered my tibial plateau, and subscribed right away. I've enjoyed watching your channel grow and I look forward to seeing you reach that next milestone!
I ended up getting both the Gamestation and the 2600+ for the reasons you mentioned in the video: I have game cartridges I want to play and want to start collecting them for the 2600 and 7800 and I want to play ROMs on the Gamestation for cartridges I can't find or ones that are incompatible with the 2600+. I'm not satisfied with the Atari 50th Anniversary collection or any Atari compilation, including the Gamestation, since all of 2600's best games are by Activision or Imagic.
I want that Atari 2600+ as I still have my O.G. Atari games and want to play them sooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. I love this nostalgic look at my childhood in the 80s
Congratz Pojr, You got 10,000 subscribers because of the high quality content you put out. I started watching this channel a few months ago & I look forward to each new video you upload. I'm also watching your back catalog to see what I missed before finding out about this channel.
Congratulations! So funny becasue when I came to this video I noticed you were at 10.3K and I was so excited for you and then that's the first thing you mentioned in the video. You deserve it!
Nice time to be into retrogaming, this is a solid review and a solid effort. Atgames is also putting out some good stuff. Being able to sideload on this makes even more appealing. It has a decent SBC, lower end RockChip that can play alot of the older games from arcade to other consoles. I need to get a Costco membership, I hear this is going to be 100 at the other stores.
Nice that they included an option for the 2600 paddle - however since it has a hard stop on the right and left (not free spinning) I assume that's why it's not compatible with some of the other games. What's strange is that I see Indy 500 on the 2600 game list - that game didn't use paddles, but a different free spinning "Driving" controller - does it still work somehow? BTW, something that I think would have been nice to include a "game matrix" (maybe on the menu screen) to show what the different "Select" game modes are. For example, Combat has 27 modes with different vehicles, but most people will just be playing game mode 1 with the two tanks. I'm picturing this as a nice portable system I can hook up to a TV at a party, or play with the kids and not be too bummed out if something breaks. Hopefully controllers are easy to replace.
Nice overview. I never had a 2600 VCS so I never had any of the cartridges. I was all about the Atari 800 Home Computer System so I have an Atari 800 emulator on my Mac along with a bunch of game cartridge ROM files that may well work in the 5200 mode on this console. Either way, I like that it's a game console with a lot of familiar titles. We are all about Super Breakout and Missle Command back in the day.
Other than Costco and a couple one offs I have not seen this console anywhere. No one seems to carry it. Not Amazon, not Target or any of the places I would regularly see My Arcade products. Clearly they need to get it out there... Nice review!
That's because official release date is October 31st... Costco just got an early batch. It's on Amazon now for pre-order.. releases and ships on Halloween.
The cool thing about these "replicas" is that in the 21st century, a game can be had that works exactly like the arcade game. In the 80s, there were handheld games, but they couldn't have hi-res displays, because the electronics for them couldn't fit in a replica. Also, solid state memory now can be compact enough to house multiple games.
For these prices, I just bought both. The game station is a good little console for $78 and you can add the essential 2600 roms if you wish easily via sdcard. The problem with the 2600+ is the lack of cartridges. The original ones are nearly 40 years old and not in the best shape and many titles are considered 'collectible' now so they are very expensive. I'd love to have a cartridge of H.E.R.O but it's twice as expensive NOW than when it was originally released in the early 80s. The company is also insane for charging $35 for 'new' cartridges like Berserk (single title.). I'm not sure what EPROMS cost now, but this seems very expensive to me. It would be great if they did some more compilation cartridges though.
I want to create content again. My stuff is just all over the place from gameplay, music, vintage figures, car stuff and more. I've never heard if this product. And I actually kind of like the 5200. Even tho I just sold mine because I was stick of breaking joysticks (I do have the know how on how to fix them. I'm lazy). But not great titles for that on here.and my favorite 2600 game isn't on here either but it doesn't have the pad for star raiders. Awesome review.
Really cool to hear. If you look at my older videos, I had a lot of scattered content in my early years. If you want to get back into making videos but not sure what kind of content to make, just make a video and see how it goes. You'll figure out the rest later.
I have the console, here few interesting things: it can play Atari roms, but also NES and Gameboy! You can also use other controller. My PS5 controller work #1 with the console!
Even if I don’t wind up getting either of these, I’m excited to get the 2600+ controllers. All I have are two original controllers with the rubber eaten off by mice, like 3 sets of paddles that don’t work (although they might be repairable), and two flash back controllers with the screw off plastic joysticks. I bet most original controllers are getting rubber rot. So it’ll be nice to get high quality replacements.
I've been interested in this console since it was announced. My first impressions were that it would be closer to the newer VCS form wise. Only at much a lower price point with out the extra power and features that seem so confusing to most. A compromise which would appeal to me for sure. Honestly the controller was the main draw for me over similar products, but since you speak so poorly of it I'm now turned off. Still seems like a fun experience, but I'll wait to see if a significant price drop happens. Another great video! Thanks for the honest and balanced review.
Since you can use other controllers I'll be buying this over the plus model. The SD card is a great feature. collecting hundreds of real 2600 carts would be cost prohibitive.
Thank you for making and sharing great content. If you look at images of the Atari 5200, you will see where the Atari Gamestation got its design influence. Keep up the good work.
I paid $3 for Atari Vault with the dlc pack a few years back. Nothing here is a whole lot better or worth adding for $80. Besides a have an arcade kiosk with twin sticks/trackball. I also have an Activision collection which this doesn’t have. An 800 mini or a 7800 mini with licensed games included would be phenomenal but it’s not going to happen. I’ve had a couple of Flashbacks also. My Atari Vault collection makes me more happy than these other collections. Plus it has a level randomizer for Adventure and Maze Invaders which is one of my favorite arcade games made by Atari. It has more 5200 games than this device also.

I'd really like to see something other than games like Super Football on these kinds of things.
The 2600+ is designed for actual Atari lovers to enjoy their physical games on an authentic Atari console experience. The GameStation is yet another game system sold for cheap to people who only like a few games or have never played one and thinks it would be a great gift for a family member. If you actually CARE about physical gaming and want the best quality experience that feels as close as possible to the real thing, just buy the 2600+
Hi, Do you know the difference between model DGUNL-7012 vs. model DGUNL-7052 of the Atari Game Station Pro? I am told model DGUNL-7052 is in white yet in your video you used this model and it was black.
This thing has a really excellent emulator as well. Plug in some real wired controllers and you can play things from NES, SNES, Genesis and even arcade games.
Hi @MK-of7qw, I'm considering 2buy this 100$ item on Amz. When you write "can play even arcade games", do you mean also roms like mame does ? Watching this review I saw not more than 10 games I like, that's not much to be pushed to put it in the cart. thx in advance
Omega Race for 2600 cannot fire, but I guess whatever trick they used with its special controller does not map to the trigger or stick top B button. I tried the rom for the arcade version of Omega race and I get both buttons working, but in reverse, which feels weird. You fire with the a button and thrust with the trigger. It would be nice in a rom update if there was more options for controller mapping. Mind you, I keep getting disappointed by the lack of a spinner controller. My true love was always Tempest.
gamestation pro might not be all atari games on it but they also did not say it would support nes sega gameboy and other which is a great plus and you can add games on sd card
I'm fine with just playing 2600 games with Stella on my Steam Deck. Would not be unhappy if I received either system as a gift but really don't need one.....
Great review! I bought this, overall like it, use the sd card so have extra games. I don’t like the joystick or paddle. The way some other reviewers talked about it I thought the controller would be better but I find there is more lag and sometimes just stops working. Anyone else experience this? I am wondering if mine is broke? I know I can use an Xbox controller but I like the original joystick especially for Pac man type games. Not sure if there is a way to connect an old joystick to it.
what are the specs of this thing? Here's some constructive criticism- get a little more into technical details. What chipset is inside this, if we know? What cfws exist for it, if any? This would be a wicked little unit if it could play Genesis and NES games too.. or even newer maybe?
I am returning mine to Costco as the controller do not match the games very well and you can not control the sensitivity.. try playing tempest with a joystick as the dial on does not work with this arcade game. So not sure why they have arcade games in this system
In my opinion, this product is not ready for prime time. The latency and/or unresponsiveness from the wireless controllers and location of the menu button causing games to continually pause make most of the games unplayable in my experience. Returning to Costco today. I imagine that 50% of these will get returned, but still be profitable for the company given the exorbitant $80 price tag for what you get here.
Gamestation sounds like a fake game console on a TV show
Yeah it does kind of sound generic
King of the Hill actually used that name for a video game console. So you are right about it being used for a fake console for a show
Sounds like a generic brand for a cheap Chinese bootleg game console crammed with Z-grade homebrew games. 😩
Mediashop Intro:Gamestation the Perfect Gift for your Child😅
Didn’t they use the Gamestation term in Malibu’s Most Wanted?
Congrats Pojr on the channel growth, well deserved sir. You make great videos.
Really appreciate that, thank you!

Congratulations on the success of your channel. And to think I knew you when.... OK, I just subscribed a couple of months back, but glad I did.
Lacking Activision titles (due to license probably etc...) always hurts these type consoles. So $80 is to high of a price. Cool post!
Activision was like bought by microsoft so maybe that is why?
100% true. The Activision games on the 2600 really defined the console
Activision titles are terrific, but it does not define the console.
And $80? I’ll blow that on lunch over the next couple of days.
It comes with a SD slot , can just add those games .
@@pojr but you can play game gear NES etc too
You can use any xbox controller (or any that does Xinput over wire) so you aren't stuck with those controllers. I'm fairly sure the VCS (the modern console) game pad would work as well if you need all your branding to match.
So how do you connect an Xbox controller to it? Thinking about getting this but don't want to be stuck use the crappy controllers that come with it
Save Mary was discussed in greater detail in an interview with Atari developers. This interview can be found on RUclips.
I think you should mention the SD Card addition on the unit. You can add your own roms in a folder that you put on an SD Card and insert into the unit. This would let you add all the games that you are missing from the 200+ included.

Spinner is analogue.
The spinner IS analogue.

Instead of the bonus games, they should have included more 5200 and 7800 games. Great video.
Hey man, thanks for the review. Planning on buying it for my kids on Christmas.

Good guy POJR. Quality needs to be appriciated. Congrats! Up to 100K

paddles aren't supposed to be free spinning. thats why it won't work with tempest or games like that.

I did hear about this one, I think they're great options for different people both the 2600+ and the gamestation. Great video!
100% agree, and thank you!
Pojr you do great work, you earned your subscription goal by consistently creating great content. Thank you for the videos.
I really appreciate that!! And thank you for being a part of the community

I saw the list of games included in the AGP & there's no Berzerk, neither Phoenix, Kangaroo, Jungle Hunt, Space Invaders etc.
Since you can use other controllers I'll be buying this over the plus model. The SD card is a great feature. collecting hundreds of real 2600 carts would be cost prohibitive.
You can add more than just Atari games.
hey this is my first time here good channel and now iam a sub also.......................peace
That was a good review of the Gamestation. Despite its faults, I'm still tempted to buy one. And congrats on getting to 10K subs!
I preordered for $100, and now I can see that it is available and for less. Maybe i need to verify and cancel my order.
Well done on the 10k
My local Gamestop had it for $60 last night but as soon as I saw the My Arcade logo I walked away...
Not bad for $60. I paid $80 for mine
Just subscribed and binge watching all the videos.
Thank you for making and sharing great content. If you look at images of the Atari 5200, you will see where the Atari Gamestation got its design influence. Keep up the good work.
Another great video Pojr
you can add nes, snes, genesis, atari, gameboy, turbo graphics games on sd card with new firmware update and use xbox controller with usb c cable
Dat Cosmic Carnage music at the end
Thanks for another great video! Keep up the good work!
Congratulations POJR. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much!
Great show on this product.
Most important question from me: Can you play Warlords with 4 players? I definitely want a good way to play the arcade version in four-player mode.
HA! I have had this for a week and didn't know about the non Atari games (I'm playing them now) Thanks!
Lucky you I can’t even get to 600 subs 😢congrats man
Would it have been possible to port "Food Fight" to the VCS / 2600, and *is* it possible *now?*
All those Atari 2600 games are the ones that have been on loads of collections, but then there's.... Fast Eddie? Why? And why isn't there any other Sirius developed titles like Beany Bopper or Worm War I? I'm confused why there's only one game like this, it makes me wonder what the deal is. It would be nice if some of Atari's lawyers could trace back the copyrights on a lot of old Atari games from companies that went bankrupt back in the crash, and start throwing some of those into future Flashbacks or collections. Did the people at Quaker Oats really try and protect the copyrights on US Games titles? Who owns the rights to Games By Apollo? Or Venture Vision? I'd really like to see something other than games like Super Football on these kinds of things.
Doesn't this thing also have an SD card slot?
I believe Ballblazer is still a Lucasfilm Games/LucasArts title, so by extension, Disney owns that.
True, that also might be why it wasn't on Atari 50
The 2600+ is designed for actual Atari lovers to enjoy their physical games on an authentic Atari console experience. The GameStation is yet another game system sold for cheap to people who only like a few games or have never played one and thinks it would be a great gift for a family member.

Hi, Do you know the difference between model DGUNL-7012 vs. model DGUNL-7052 of the Atari Game Station Pro? I am told model DGUNL-7052 is in white yet in your video you used this model and it was black.
The should've had a sd card slot for rom dumps for the new Atari 2600+.
Why not show inside the console? I am curious to see the PCB
I'll wait for the 2600+
I really want "Berzerk".
I wonder if others have provided the same feedback on the controller. I hope they fix them or make a better one available.
Isn't there a way to use other controllers? I thought I heard that it was possible
They had a plastic 2600 in early 80s called 2600 junior
Brilliant video, you’ve saved me a fortune, I won’t be buying one, thanks
👍🙂 Good video. 🤔 Which HD resolution does the Atari Gamestation console output? 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K?
How do the Atari pro controllers work on PC for launchbox or Hyperspin?
Atari 50 appears to have the arcade and 8-bit versions of Food Fight. Have you ever played those versions?
The sd card that works in raspberry works in the Atari game station pro ?
Damn no black widow? Even though it wouldn't work with the controller it's a deal breaker for me
@8:05 Really? How does one forget where a single big button is on the very end of a joystick?
Slightly more games than Atari 50 but Atari 50 is obviously better because it has so much extra content to it than this cheap box
Yeah Atari 50 is more premium and well-polished.

Is 2600 Pac-Man on there?
It seems the gamestation is for those that want to just play games and don't have 2600/7800 carts.
Very true, so the audience for the Gamestation vs 2600+ will be different
gamestation pro might not be all atari games on it but they also did not say it would support nes sega gameboy and other which is a great plus and you can add games on sd card
I'm fine with just playing 2600 games with Stella on my Steam Deck. Would not be unhappy if I received either system as a gift but really don't need one.....
I am confused with this video which product you were reviewing. Too many names and versions being discussed
how many times can they repackage these games
Does someone know the name of the two songs from the ending and outro?
One of these days one of these Atari plug n plays will have Fast Food on there... one of these days... 😅
Forgot to test other controllers, on the usb.
It can at least play nes, genesis, and gameboy. The controller is the drawback. The button layout is awkward.
Tempest does not use the knob??? WTF???
I start laughing at Foodfight because I used to start food fight at school 😂😂😂 I was a bad kid
Can you attach your own controller?
I am returning mine to Costco as the controller do not match the games very well and you can not control the sensitivity.. try playing tempest with a joystick as the dial on does not work with this arcade game. So not sure why they have arcade games in this system
Where do I find Atari rom?
Totally off topic....
I find it strange that most people under 35 or so don't know how to say the word button. It's not buh-un.
It’s pojr boy!
oh boy 80 bucks for a bunch of games that can be emulated on a toaster
In my opinion, this product is not ready for prime time. The latency and/or unresponsiveness from the wireless controllers and location of the menu button causing games to continually pause make most of the games unplayable in my experience. Returning to Costco today. I imagine that 50% of these will get returned, but still be profitable for the company given the exorbitant $80 price tag for what you get here.
