  • 🚨 CHECK THE PINNED COMMENT FOR UPDATES & TROUBLESHOOTING! 🚨
The new Atari Gamestation Pro has an SD card that allows for expansion. In my review of the GSP, I sampled a few games and system that work, so here's the update I promised where we walk through tons of expansion possibilities via that little bonus SD slot!
Founded in 1972, Atari® changed the way we approached gaming - from the way games were designed to the way they were played. Atari’s iconic games, including Asteroids®, Centipede® and Missile Command® have been played by many millions. Half a century later, Atari® ’s legacy endures. The Gamestation Pro has over 200 games, including Atari® 2600, Atari® 5200, Atari® 7800 and Atari® arcade games.
    FEATURES
    • Officially licensed titles.
    • Packed with over 200 built-in Atari® + bonus titles.
    • System connects directly to TV.
    • Two 2.4 GHz wireless joysticks, inspired by the original Atari joysticks, include paddles for paddle games like Breakout®, Warlords® and many more.
    • Intuitive user interface
    • Game save options.
    • Dynamic RGB LED lights.
    • Includes USB power cable and HDMI® cable.
    • Joysticks require 4 AA batteries each (not included).
    • Titles include Asteroids®, Centipede®, Pong®, Breakout®, Missile Command®, Crystal Castles® and many more

🚨 UPDATES 🚨 Additional information that you may find useful:
    • Some users have reported that their GSP prefers the "games" folder to be capitalized as "Games". If one doesn't work for you, try the other.
    • If your SD card is not cooperating, try reformatting it as exFAT.
    • Firmware V1.20 (seen in this video) will also support Sega Game Gear ROMs.
    • When grabbing 37b5 for samples, click on the oval button labeled, "⬇2276 files" - not the source zip I click in the video.
    • I'm getting reports that the 2003 arcade ROMset has more working games, so if one your favorties doesn't work, try the version in this collection:
    • archive.org/details/MAME2003_Reference_Set_MAME0.78_ROMs_CHDs_Samples
    • Firmware 1.30 has been released adding functionality and more consoles are supported.

Indeed, "Games" worked for me, but "games" was not found. Thanks for the tips! If it can find the Samples folder, I wonder if other standard MAME folders like "NVRAM" or "CFG" might carry over too... Lots of experimentation ahead!

I think the idea of having thousands is more about having more choices, not the idea that anyone wants to play that many games. Maybe someone loves Pac Man, but grew up on the ColecoVision version, so that's the one they want. For me, i had a couple different systems with probably 30-40 games when i was a kid. I can't remember what they all were. But to looks through a huge list and find them...that would be awesome.

I also noticed that the on line user guide says in one sentence to go to the website to learn more about emulation. Nowhere on the website is that talked about. I think they just wanted people to put two and two together and figure it out. The guide gave you one example of how to create folders on your SD card for another purpose but I feel like that is as close as they were gonna get to helping you think outside the box. It even tells you how to format the card and the max size of card.

To keep indexing times down, I will probably set up a few separate SD cards and use them as multi-carts, e.g. one for 2600, one for 5200, a third for 7800. Inexpensive enough, and in keeping with the "cartridge" user experience, so no big inconvenience there

I do wish the added games were polished with box arts and save states like with the Snes Mini. That would be alot better imho. But I love this controller and the built in paddle is sweet! I LOVE warlords and this looks to be the way to play it. I think as others have said, the way to go with this is a microsd card for each console. Nice job on the review and this video btw.

Well done tutorial! I easily understood everything you said, because I used to do a lot of emulation gameplay, back in the day. I’m not sure if I’ll pickup this console yet, because I bought the Atari VCS on sale for about $170 (w/ joystick and Gamepad). The Atari VCS is supposed to be usable as an emulation machine, but I haven’t even hooked it up yet, because I’m super busy during the holidays. Definitely subscribing! I got mine a few days ago, and it's been a delight! Also my 1st dive into NES games. Had a 2600, C64 but then nothing until the SNES. The NES is impressive! Particularly with regard to many of the arcade ports! I've got so many great games to explore!
But you sure appreciate the poor button placement in the games that require B and/or C as the primary button. Makes many virtually unplayable. Got my USB - USB C converter on the way.

For a few of the home brews, Defender Arcade and Donkey Kong Arcade worked well. Draconian and Wizard of Wor Arcade did not work. Halo 2600 worked as well. Picked one of these up today at Costco, and the controllers are pretty laggy when I use them wireless. Plugged into the USB-C ports in the front of the console, and they’re amazing. Now I just have to get some longer cables so I can sit on my comfy couch and play. It’s great to play Atari 2600 and 7800 games with a proper joystick again, as I sold my 7800 system a few years ago.

Great idea. I did that with different combos of my PSP games - along with creating a set of cards with duplicates of all my games, in the days before the PS Store shut down the PSP servers. I put those in a small, zip bag from some gadget’s one foot-long USB-C cable, and I put that in one of those foil/bubble wrap sleeves, to keep out light and cushion them. That way, I can get them out of my safe, in 25 years, and take them to the nursing home with me, to play in my bed all day. Those Capcom collections are gonna be seeing a lot of action, amidst beating a bunch of JRPGs (e.g., Jeanne d’Arc) and many, many playthroughs of Twisted Metals and Tomb Raiders! Hoping my collection of the four Battlefront UMDs holds up... physically. They’ll never not be awesome games.

The 2600+ is not to be compared with this baby as the 2600+ is for Atari 2600 fans like me for example for the following reasons:
      I don´t care about the 7800.
I love the Atari 2600 LEGO graphics (I´m talking about its bigger playfield blocks, YEP) it´s iconic and leaves you with imagination.
I love its 2 channel short circuit like sounds, love the square waves too.
I love its cheerful and colorful 128 color palette.
Love how simple it is to play the games.
I love how I will be able to reunite (go back in time) with my 2600 as I did for the first time in 1984.
I love the fact I can grab, kiss and smell the real things (console, box, carts, plastic, manuals, etc), not experience a virtual emulator.
I am very happy to know Atari will support the 2600+ and allow for new games to be released to it.
This Game Station are for you who likes the physical stuff too BUT are eclectic with games (want a lot of different systems in one system).
i would not mind having the station either, but for now I am ok just wishig for my 2600+.
