This is great news! The paddle games were the only part of the machine where I felt that it was too bad there's a paddle right there that can't be used, but now it can, and in a very simple, direct way. Really glad that My Arcade is working on adding features like this!
Haha! Was on the fence between the GSP and the 2600+ since I have so many physical carts from 40 years ago but it seems the GSP is the better choice, especially with the paddle control update. The easy expansion to include many additional games is the clincher.
They added a lot of great features but you are right, it’s only half baked. Your wishlist would make it a perfect starter emulation box, never mind a great Atari console in itself!
Great news about paddle support. Astorblast was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I’m going to do some tests to see if I can get the paddle working for arcade games. I would love to get Arkanoid working with the paddle.
I wasn't aware of the paddle support. And the possibilities of remapping the controllers is paramount. Once again, you have made some GSP owners very happy indeed. You have earned yourself to the next level of knighthood, Sir Jon!!!
The GSP I said I ordered got here yesterday and I followed your video which I found on official website to update the firmware! That was an awesome find! Thanks again for all the info and I hope you and our family have a safe, wonderful Christmas and New Years!
Awesome video Jon. You’re a double legend!!! Personally I’d love to see the paddle availability for other platforms such as Mame. Being specific and selfish here I’d also love a fully functional Discs Of Tron game play. Only because it is the greatest game ever made, and it was my inspiration to becoming a programmer (that, and Superman III).
This device just gets better and better. I am so happy with mine! These points you mentioned would be another HUGE step in the right direction. I really look forward to what happens next. As for now, I will enjoy rediscovering old favorites, and find new favorites that I never knew about.
Awesome news about the paddle support. Great video as always. The ability to view screen shot images or cabinet art would be epic for the Mame games instead of their abbreviated zip files.
I messed around and found out about the SMS and PCE rom support after I saw the video where you told us that it had SNES support, I did not know about the paddle support, that is awesome news! I would really like to see controller mapping and Atari 800, Atari Lynx, Sega SG1000, and PCE CD platform support! Great video as always!!!
This thing just gets more and more appealing! I don’t really need to organise ROMs by anything more than platform, as I **mostly** stick to ROMs of games I own in one form or another (physical media, downloadable homebrews, collections for modern systems). It’s tempting to just have everything ever released available, granted…
The new features are awesome. I completely agree with you on the wishlist. The new features are a step in the right direction but if they add new things as you sugest it could propel the GSP into more sales and a huge increase in userbase.
Great video Jon! Hope they sort out the SNES button mapping but there's some really useful additions in this firmware update. Keep up the awesome work!
Great update video! Was hoping you’d do this. Nice improvements on their part , especially with the sub-folders and paddle support, though I agree that controller button assignment is a big deal and I hope they listen to that request as they have some of the others.
In addition to adding controller mapping, improved third party controller support would be much appreciated and really unlock the full potential of this awesome device.
Thank you for the clear and detailed videos on the GSP. Just got mine for Christmas and thanks to your videos I have upgraded the firmware and added additional games. Keep up the great work!
My GSP is still in the box (crazy work schedule) but I'm glad that the SD features has been heavily tweaked. I wish they can add Colecovision and Intellivision support. And maybe Lynx support down the road too.
Ditto. If my arcade does not add CV, we may me able to add a library module such as Bluemsx to a firmware image, but that will take some testing, I just don't want to accidentally brick the thing. Would also like to see intellivision in there.
Cool video Jon. I hope they will allow boxart so we can see what game we are playing . Able to change our Respect ratio. And earlier bezel add on. That look at cfg file.
Well for me, I finally got around to setting up my SD card for the GSP, and only after the 1.30 firmware update. I made subfolders by console (Atari 2600, NES, etc) and though I added a lot, I didn't go nuts... I added what I had memory/nostalgia for, not everything in site. I added an additional 584 games split between Atari 2600/5200/7800, NES, Genesis, SNES and Arcade games. I wasn't aware of the added paddle support, so I may have to change up my SD card again. It's mostly all been positive additions, though some frustration with the obvious (trying to play 6-button SNES games on a 3-button controller). I recognize this is all "added bonus" so I can't complain too much, but if they could just add customizable controller and/or 6-button controller support, My Arcade will save my marriage! (My significant other wants to play SNES Donkey Kong Country, I promised her I'd download it for her, which I did, only to realize the controller fiasco!). Help me My Arcade! You're my only hope!
this is awesome!🎉🎉🎉 heres hoping neo geo mega cd 32x pcengine-cd and psx get added, loving the look of this 🎉🎉🎉 tyre quake and doom ports would be epic!
Jon the GenX Grownup: truly the voice of a generation! Thanks for all you do, and thanks to MyArcade for paying attention and following through! You say the GSP software is based on Retroarch. Is there an equivalent of the 'Atari 2600 Paddle' folder functionality in Retroarch?
Oh, I don't know about that, but I certainly appreciate the kind words! 😀 No, my understanding is the special folder is being monitored by the GSP front-end to determine which controls to pass to RA.
I'm so glad I watched this video. I was extremely disappointed to discover that, when using the micro SD card, Kaboom defaulted to the joystick rather than the little paddle knob. I just added the new "Atari 2600 Paddle" folder and moved it to that folder, and now it works with the paddle! Even better, the paddle sensitivity is adjustable, just like with the built in games. Thank you!!! It's nice to see a company listen to their consumers and update/fix things, and surprisingly quickly! I wish Atari would do the same with the 2600+ regarding the paddles. They're better than they were before the firmware update, but they're still not smooth like on the original system. The same with AtGames and their paddle games with the Flashback 50th and 12.
Really! I still think the update on the FB 12 paddles play better..you just have to move further left and right than you should. On the gamestaion you don't have to move as much but feel more jerky..even wired..I can get better scores on kaboom and circus atrai with the flash back for sure!
@@frankonofrietti440 The firmware update with the FB12 definitely improved paddle play, but I still find it a little jittery. Not so much that it interferes with playing the games, but just with the way it looks as it moves across the screen. The same with my 2600+... improved, but still not perfect. Unfortunately, I hadn't saved any of the cartridges from the 2600 I had as a kid, so the only ones I had are those that came with the 2600+ and the paddle pack I got for it. However, after playing it on my FB12, I did end up buying one used cartridge from eBay... Kaboom. I got a new label for it too. I didn't have it as a kid, nor had ever even heard of it until watching one of Jon's RUclips videos, but man, that game is so much fun! With having it on the FB12 I didn't need it, and it doesn't play any better on the 2600+, but there's just something about having the cartridge... nostalgia, I guess. I find it fun on all three systems. Did you find the paddles that came with your FB12 a bit stiff? Mine sure were. They've gotten looser with use, and hopefully they'll continue to loosen up and get closer to the ones I got for my 2600+, which feel identical to the original 2600 paddles.
@@frankonofrietti440 Oh, paddle games definitely play better on the FB12 after updating the firmware from stock, but there's still room for improvement. Obviously there's no way to eliminate the minimal lag with emulation, which actually isn't very bad at all, but I do wish it was as smooth as it was on the original system. It's acceptable though, and smoother than it was with the original firmware. I too find Kaboom better on the FB12 than the GSP. And it's slightly better on my 2600+, though the difference between it and the FB12 isn't really all that much. I had a Flashback 2 that I bought shortly after it debuted, and I would have loved to have modded it to take cartridges, as that would have been just like the original, though with better resolution. Unfortunately, after nearly 20 years the wires inside became somewhat brittle, and while taking it apart late last month to check the board revision, one of the wires broke at a solder point. That could be fixed, but through a series of unfortunate events involving my cat, the main system board was cracked, and that can't be. So much for that idea. 😭
Pretty much nailed why I got my GSP actually, when it first came to my attention first thing I saw was the 200-ish games on it.. first thought was huh neat, but I already got all these other mini consoles do I *really* need to slap another ontop - then the selling point became visible, a SD slot, now THAT got my attention lol. The possibilities for what came next had me sold. The only issue per-se I'm having now is trying to get Mega/Sega CDs to work, there's only a couple of titles I wish to put on there but I think I have to hunt down iso's in a specific form and not spread across multiple files as I have them now, but I have pre-empted a 32x folder in advance for possible future firmware updates. I'm on board with a button-mapping option too, aswell as save state support for titles on the SD. Though I'd take it a step further and enable the use of more controllers, would love to use this usb Sega Saturn controller I got very simple thing.
First, Jon, thanks for the update. My paddle games have never played better outside genuine hardware! Second, a thought: the "Atari 2600 Paddle" folder allows for paddle games to use save states. I wonder if there's a similar set of folder names that would allow the same thing for other ROM files loaded off the SD card. I tried playing Chuck Norris Superkicks and had no way of saving state on my GSP, but if the paddle games allow it there there almost certainly has to be a way to get it to work for other folders.
You're quite welcome, and I feel the same way about the paddle performance. 😀 I thought similarly about "special power" folder names, but couldn't find any magic combination. As a console, the 2600 was the only one with a paddle controller (of the ones emulated here). And I can't actually think of an arcade game that used a paddle - they all seemed to have spinners, but not paddles. So even if we got the paddle to be reconized for arcade titles, having only about 330⁰ of rotation might make it not quite right anyhow.
Now is the time, GXG… now is the time to review that My Arcade Namco Classics home arcade… now that you have half a second in-between the other product reviews! (I'm really just saying this out of idle curiosity: I already own too many ways to play the classic Namco games. However, I'd expect all of that stuff to be on 40% off sale in January.)
If you rename the Sega SG-1000 games from .sg to .sms they will work. Also If you want to run Famicom Disk System, the extension is .fds and make sure you have the Disk System Bios in the folder with the roms. Also, the Arcade1up MegaMan and Pac-Man controller work on the GSP wired.
this is the ultimate arcade machine with mame roms just dont expect anything like narc or mortal kombat to play perfectly. Tmnt arcade, simpsons arcade and wrestlefest play perfectly
Instead of backing up with the B Button, Back up with the home key on the controller!! This works without going all the way back to the main Consoles folder!!
Another great video, thanks! Question -- is it just as easy as creating a folder that says "Atari 2600 Paddle" (and then adding the ROMs) to enable the paddle support? Atari 8-bit computer would be a great next addition the GSP could include in the next firmware update, maybe Colecovision?
Mame games can have remapped controls by using a hex editor to compare the original .cfg and altered .cfg to look for changes. Player 1 joystick values... 69=Left, 6A=Right, 6B=Up, 6C=Down, 6D=A, 6E=B, 6F=C. If you use a PlayStation Classic controller you have 2 more buttons you can map. 71=L2, 72=R2. For the player 2 controller it's the same but they have the 5th bit turned on. So 79=Left, 7A=Right, 7B=Up, etc.
Thanks for this new info! Yep, we definitely need that Y button issue resolved for ideal SD game support. (TG16 and even for some games available under 1.20). Would like to be able to get both analog sticks working as well on Xbox controller. Perhaps they could make a special folder to allow us to override the Retroarch and default cfg files.
Wow, this console strart to be become the real deal! Like you said, more official title would be nice. But I doubt its MyArcade choice. Maybe Atari could hop in the hipe and just allow some additional official release.
Updating the GSP was the weirdest firmware update I ever did, and I did updated some pretty strange devices before and I work in IT too... If you look also at the file system in the loader BEFORE pointing the loader and the firmware img, you see some hints of where this thing comes from... :) This new update is really a good step in the good direction. I'm personnaly not a real fan of the Atari games (I won the device...), but a big fan of NES, SNES and Arcade games... I've tried to play with my kids some Atari games but even if they don't really know what video games are, they were totally uninterested. I'm maybe ''too young'' (80s in my case)... Playing Mario or Excitebike or RC Proam were more their thing, as their dad. But having a small console to play emulation... That's a neat thing for me. (yeah I own normal modern computers and yeah I can play emulation on those) but sitting in from of a tv to play an old console... Wow. A blast from the past. I thought at some point that I would make a rasberry pie or a mini computer especially for that... But since I got the GSP already and it's so close to what I want to do with it, I'll wait to see what they will do. The button mapping is A MUST for the next upgrade in my case, those old Mame games like dungeon and dragon require the fourth button to do anything...
That update tool is the same one used by AtGames, too. To My Arcade's credit, changes in this firmware mean that future updates can be performed by simply dropping it on the SD card.
@@GenXGrownUp oh that's great. I don't think the average grandma will be able to do this. I don't own any AtGames, so I did not knew about this thing. It's easy to do, but still it very weird, maybe I'm too far from the modern emulation world. It's vast, a lot more than when I was 13y with my win95 and my 56k modem! :) Now, let's wait patiently for that Y button remapping. :)
All your videos explaining the new and now upgraded GSP are excellent. Your enthusiasm is fun to watch. The firmware updates are good to improve this product. But I think the GSP still pales in comparison to a homebrew Nintendo Wii running Retroarch and/or individual emulator apps. Also, do you think the GSP will ever be able to apply specific game cheats that are implemented with all versions of Retroarch?
Thanks for watching and for your kind words. And you're likely right about the comparison of the GSP and other options. As I'm sure you know, the very phrase, "homegbrew Nintendo Wii running Retroarch" is enough to glaze over the eyes of the average non-technical consumer. That's the niche I think products like the GSP fill. For those of us with other options, we're already using them! 😜
Here's something that might help for using an xbox controller for SNES games; when I hit Y and B at the same time, it registers just the SNES's A button. This means (for example) I can switch from Donkey to Diddy Kong without the annoying menu pop-up.
Atari 8-bit 800/XL support with wireless keyboard would be keen. I tried to play 5200 miner 2049er but was dead in the water at the elevators without keyboard 1-2-3-4 keyboard input. I don't expect games that require whole disks, but binary loads should work. Also, real hardware atari controllers would be exceptional.
You know the next "logical" step, for Atari, would be to release a system that does what the 2600+ and Pro together (as in cartridge compatible and SD card slot) and call it the "Atari PHOENIX" as Atari is rising from well stomped-on ashes back in the 90s and early 2000s. I mean just throw in a machine that has cartridge slots for ALL Atari carts to cover everything, even the computers. I would think, however, another unit should have some more power than what the 2600+ and Gamestation Pro do and make it an all out "emulation" machine. Create an UNFORGETTABLE case for the system and let it be the end-all be-all for retro Atari. It just seems like these companies are "squeezing" retro nostalga for all it's worth. Don't get me wrong, i love the feeling seeing remade Coleco, Intellivison, Atari, and so forth but they could be doing it cheaper and with a lot more innovation rather than selling us "layers" which is what they are doing now. The VCS was just a glorified emulator with an Atari skin on it. I love this channel and hearing from the GenXGrownUp but i think the companies are just trying to re-sell the 80s and 90s at this point. nuff said?
The merging of streams sounds like a dream for consumers. Keep in mind that the GSP isn't an Atari product. It's a My Arcade product under license from Atari. As an aside, I happen to know that My Arcade was not aware of the 2600+ in development and were taken by surprise when a (seemingly) similar product was released by Atari themselves around the same time that theirs was going to market.
Saw the GSP in Costco and went yay! Wife got it for me for Christmas and didn't have many games I played as a kid, eh. Then read about SD card support, then about GB, NES and with the 1.30 SNES support YAY! I bought 2 SNES controllers ready to go back in time and the buttons didn't work right, sob. But I was able to play some of my favorite 2600 games with my kids and they enjoy playing these old games. Button mapping will alleviate any itch i have to build a RetroPie. Tetris Attack (SNES) music sounds choppy to me, does it do that for you? Maybe my ROM? I put the games I enjoy into a "main" folder and all other ROMs into an "other" folder for each console.
You would think menu function would be done with the guide button (the big glowing one in the center with the Xbox logo on it) not the Y button but thata just me.
@@GenXGrownUp I was thinking of it like the guide menu on the 360 or the home menu on the Wii and then you push a button on that to take you back to the game selection screen. Or like the steam Deck it has 2 menus and uses a button combo for the other (guide + A)
Sorry to bug, honest I'm an experienced MAME user, I just cant figure this out! Are you putting the bezels in an artwork folder with the matching naming convention (IE DKONG) for your bezel to work? And on the external SD card? Or are you adding the artwork to the zip file of the DKONG mame file (keeping everything in a single file)? So sorry, if I could get some clarity on how you installed bezels so your aspect ratio crops within the bezel and shows the bezel on the gamestation pro.
I would add paddle controls for the arcade built in titles and Lynx as well as Jaguar support for the sd card added games into my wishlist so we can have an all in one atari console.
@@GenXGrownUp Oh that was unexpected. I assumed it had paddles since I never played it in an actual arcade, thanks for the tidbit and for the coverage on this console.
Thanks, I was at Costco's today and saw these for $49 I might have to grab one for this price although I do wonder what they will be marked down to after Christmas.
That sounds like Costco clearing out for the holidays. They purchased so many units from My Arcade that they were able to leverage their order size and require My Arcade to add AA batteries to the units they sold.
That hard backed menu button wich also serves as select in certain emulators,is indeed a pain in the ass what’s needs to be solved with remapping option.
unless you had the pro paddles or I think they call them heavy 6 pack paddles the regular paddles were NOT consistent. I think it was the left side regular paddle would always be slower or inconsistent.
I'm not talking about 100% 1:1 perfection, but consitency like we didn't get with the AtGames FBG. That was crazy! ruclips.net/video/dOV_yYhorTs/видео.html
Secret Quest has a problem. It actually uses the TV type switch, to open a menu. That is inaccessible on the GSP. Also, the paddle controls in the arcade version of Warlords are very bad. Using the dial on the included controller, the sensitivity is very inconsistent, the bumper moves especially slow on the corner of the wall. It's faster in some ares, slower in others.
TV Type Switch is accessible in the menu. Just tap the small menu button on the back of the controller to adjust TV Type, Difficulty, and Paddle Sensitivity for Atari 2600 games.
@@GenXGrownUp I did try toggling that, the in-game menu doesn't come up. I remember testing that game years ago in an official Android app, and toggling the TV switch would bring up the menu. It's not working on the GSP. About arcade Warlords, rather than a proper paddle input, the paddle control seems to be tied to an analog joystick-style input, without a proper curve between the two axis. I tried an off-brand Switch controller via USB, and noted the behavior of the bumper movement using the joystick. Seeing that My Arcade responded to feedback before, I'd be happy to see these issues addressed as well, if possible.
@@BeefJerkey I know My Arcade does read comment here, and I'll test myself and see if I can't bring it to their attention. Secret Quest isn't a title I know, so I hadn't tried that function myself. Thanks for the notification. UPDATE: I've learned a bit more. Secret Quest doesn't enter the status screen just by toggling the TV Type switch, but by double-toggling it. The screen should switch each time you pass through the black-and-white mode (just tested on Stella). From the manual: "You can look at the status screen any time during the game by pushing the [TV Type] switch on the 2600 console up and down. To return to the game screen, push the [TV Type] switch up and down again." So, I surmise that, since the GSP pauses emulation while toggling switches, Secret Quest is only looking for the moment the switch moves to BW, but since emulation is paused at that moment, it doesn't get the chance to react. Sounds like an odd side effect of how the GSP handles the switches combined with the creative way SQ uses them.
@@GenXGrownUp Thanks for looking into that. And I have another update. If you run the Secret Quest ROM from an SD card, that function does work. But not if you run the built-in version of the game...
Has there been any update for button mapping or “other” controller support? I’ve watched hours and hours of videos and all I wanna do is play all my Mario and donkey Kong games the way I used to back in the day.
I don't think you should do subfolders I don't have any and I have about 30 games now and it's just three pages really simple does not take long to scroll on to a game I mean how many games do you want to have? And by the way can you direct link me where you got that Donkey Kong mine doesn't jump like that to push the ladders down in the beginning that must be a full version
I'm not sure if I should be more impressed with your skills at Kaboom or the paddle control that makes it all possible. Typically I would wash out at the third stage. So. How's this compare to the Super Retrocade that was released a few years ago? Is the performance roughly the same?
Hahaha! I mean, of course I won't be upset if my Kaboom! skills are impressive, but they'd be worthless if the paddle proved to be "laggy" as so many nay-sayers claim. Every paddle shot in this video is wireless, too! As to your question, I'm afraid I don't have experience with the Super Retrocade in order to provide a comparison. 🙇
How do you define, "work fine?" Where are the four buttons mapped? Where is the menu button moved to? I'm assuming this requires tinkering with MAME cfg files in the SD file structure?
If you look on the atari and forum there is a thread for the gamestation pro and one person on there said he just used the nes controller cfg file and said he had no problems. Others tried it also. It was posted 2 days ago
Mac user here ,I wasn't able to get the update bc I don't have windows but all in all I'm not missing much I mainly play Genesis games, would be cool if they made it available for Mac users
As with lots of consumer electronics, Mac & Linux users will likely need to hit up a Windows friend for 10 minutes to run this update. For what it's worth, one little nugget in this update that I didn't mention but will be of interest to you: changes made in this firmware version set up for future updates being possible from the SD card with no computer necessary (other than to load the SD card, of course).
This is great! What's the best xbox or alternative joystick controller? How does a wired connection work? I think I want an xbox joystick with a long USB C to USB C cable.... is this correct? Do you have affiliate links? I don't care for a paddle and will use the included joystick if I need that.
I have attempted some generic usb nes, snes, and sega controllers I use on Retroarch for pc and they do not map correctly. Hopefully in a future upgrade controller mapping will be added and these will be usable for a more authentic experience.
I just got a GSP, actually I bought 2 just in case I messed one of them up, and I watched all of your videos on adding roms, but most everything I find has the .bin and not .a26. I tried several utilities, but none of them will actually convert them to .a26. Please offer me some wisdom and if there is a way I can convert the roms I have so I can add them appropriately.
It's just the extension that needs to be changed - no wizardry required. You can do them manually or use a tool like Advanced Renamer to do a bunch of files in a batch renaming.
Sadly I can’t upgrade my GSP because Myarcade have decided not too release a Mac version of the upgrade. I have written to their support but responded with a terse reply of “Unfortunately, there will not be a Mac version of the software.” No explanation of why or a possible work around. Very disappointed. Anyone else in this situation?

i wish they would allow button remapping because some games via roms are unplayable like street fighter arcade games y button brngs up menu plus its attack. also super mario bros nes b button shoots fireball on xbox controller and a is jump. complete opposite of nes b fireball a jump. desperately need button remapping. also mame cheat support and snap saves would be awesome. wrestlefest, simpsons arcade, tmnt arcade, tmnt in time work flawlessly. cant find wwf superstars rom..
Oh, we know. They haven't DISALLOWED it, they simply haven't yet had an opportunity to address it. We could only play SNES & PCE games as of this firmware, and there's not yet been an updated version since. There's no guarantee of remapping, but they are aware of the desire.
Coming back to this, I am unable to get my kaboom.a26 file to work properly with the GSP controllers when using the Atari 2600 Paddle folder. It does launch stand alone Stella, and the game loads, but Ive never gotten the buttons to fire, but the paddle on my second GSP will move the items, it's rather odd. Perhaps I need to find a different copy of the game.
I've not run into that, so it may just be an order-of-operations problem. You can visit the #tech-support channel of our Discord server if you need more assistance.
@@GenXGrownUp nevermind, thought I found an issue, I forgot I had changed the library path in the runme last time.. that seems to have screwed things up enough to mess with the stella executable and/or appropriate device handling therein
I am new to this I was following your previous video. Were do I get the artwork folder? I download the zips and the sample file but can not find the artwork folder.
@@GenXGrownUp Thank you. I am watching that video now. Love the way this system is working out so far. Thank you for the content. I got 2 gsp now and adding my first games.
@@GenXGrownUp Unfortunately it doesn't work like the 2600. I tried renaming Arkanoid to match Super Breakout and Avalanche but the rom wouldn't even load when its name is changed. Also tried loading from an Arcade Paddles and Mame Paddles directory but no go there either. Hopefully someone can figure it out ton of great arcade games we could use with the spinner. I will note that the paddle does work playing Super Breakout and Avalanche from the SD Card. So it has a configuration somewhere specifically for these games.
Must be doing something wrong. Updated the firmware, created a folder on the sd card called games and loaded some files with .a26 extensions. I hit home and start and I never get the menu. It is able to save game saves to the sd card though
Can I put the Atari 2600 Paddle directory INSIDE the Atari 2600 directory? Or do I have to have it as games/Atari 2600 and games/Atari 2600 Paddle both?
I did the update last week and Kaboom was working using the paddle. Today I wanted to play and it is no longer responding. Only using the joystick works. Are you having this issue by any chance? I am not sure what happened??
I didn't do anything special. The artwork folder needs to be a sibling folder to samples, and the filenames should match the ROM filenames. (I didn't do any renaming - the already match.) Note that there aren't artwork packs for every single game.
Pressing Home and Start (at the same time) at the Main Menu is not getting me to the list of directories- nothing happens. I updated my firmware and confirmed it is now 1.30. My sd card has a directory called "games" with sub directories for consoles under it. Any ideas what is wrong?
Thanks so much - your tips helped! I have one of the units that requires the capital G in "Games" folder name. Works perfectly now. Thanks!@@GenXGrownUp
Anyone know what mame artwork will work with the GSP (and where to find)? I have a MAME subfolder with artwork from mame4droid 0.139u1 and it is never used in any associated games). First I put samples and artwork folders under the MAME sub folder and artwork doesn't work, but samples do (esp. qbert). I tried to move both artwork and samples into the same folder as Atari 2600, Atari 7800, mame, etc. folders (moved one folder up). In this config neither samples nor artwork works. Thanks for any help.
Question what do you think is the best way to play paddle games.. game station pro or the flashback 50 with the paddle update.. I still think they play better on the flashback!
I prefer the GSP's paddle solution over the Flashback. It's smaller than the full-size controller, but moves more smoothly and evenly from left to right. The 2600+ is arguably better still, but requires owning physical media - so it depends on what your collection looks like.
I don't think this is true at all.. I think if you did the test on the gamestation knob like you did on the flashback. You will see that the knob is much less accurate than the flashback..
I respect your opinion, but that doesn't reflect my observations. Even under updated firmware, the FBG's paddle is a bit uneven as you move across the screen.
@@GenXGrownUp the only thing I can go by without doing tests.. is constant playing.. I spent a half hour with both.. I was able to get over 4000 with the FB.. couldn't even get 2000 with the GSP wired.. the only thing I had to get used to with the FB is the wider range.. and also there is a big difference just doing the test before the bombs start dropping.. because once they do there is probably a frame rate difference that is causing the inaccuracy. But before the bombs drop yes it's very smooth.. something to check out..
This is great news! The paddle games were the only part of the machine where I felt that it was too bad there's a paddle right there that can't be used, but now it can, and in a very simple, direct way. Really glad that My Arcade is working on adding features like this!
I tested the Gamestation Pro joysticks on The C64 and that confirms my concern about the paddles. The paddles only worked as the first fire button.
Not all heroes wear capes. Thanks Jon for the paddle news, this is awesome!
My favorite comment of the day. 🏆 You're far too kind, and I thank you for watching!
Great video Jon. Awesome to see that paddles are now supported for SD-card games. Hope to get this for Christmas. Can’t wait!
I hope you were good this year! 🎅
Great video as always Jon. Would like to add Colecovision and Intellivision emulators to the wishlist.
Great news about paddle support. Astorblast was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I’m going to do some tests to see if I can get the paddle working for arcade games. I would love to get Arkanoid working with the paddle.
Let me know about Arkanoid! That's the dream game for me when it comes to paddle support!
I wasn't aware of the paddle support. And the possibilities of remapping the controllers is paramount. Once again, you have made some GSP owners very happy indeed. You have earned yourself to the next level of knighthood, Sir Jon!!!
Am I supposed to kneel and await my new title? 😜 Thanks for watching, Mark!
The GSP I said I ordered got here yesterday and I followed your video which I found on official website to update the firmware! That was an awesome find! Thanks again for all the info and I hope you and our family have a safe, wonderful Christmas and New Years!
Thanks for sharing your experience. 😀 Same warm wishes to you & yours! 🎄
Thanks for keeping us updated on these changes. I updated the firmware on mine after watching this.
Thanks for watching. Tron & Supe 3 guided your career path, eh? That's awesome!
This device just gets better and better. I am so happy with mine! These points you mentioned would be another HUGE step in the right direction. I really look forward to what happens next. As for now, I will enjoy rediscovering old favorites, and find new favorites that I never knew about.
Great to hear!
Awesome news about the paddle support. Great video as always. The ability to view screen shot images or cabinet art would be epic for the Mame games instead of their abbreviated zip files.
This is almost the perfect retro system.
Great video as always!!!
have you tried SNES roms ? I tried both zipped an unzipped versions: unzipped, they do not show, zipped, they do not launch
I'm in the day they make an arcade style Trackball controller for this.
This thing just gets more and more appealing! I don’t really need to organise ROMs by anything more than platform, as I **mostly** stick to ROMs of games I own in one form or another (physical media, downloadable homebrews, collections for modern systems). It’s tempting to just have everything ever released available, granted…
Speaking of rums you are the own it would be really cool if you could play the four player NES game Micro Mage on this thing.
paddle games are why I want this. Theres no easy solution to get a knob-style controller working... on any platform. PC included.
Thanks, Jamie!
Great update video! Was hoping you’d do this. Nice improvements on their part , especially with the sub-folders and paddle support, though I agree that controller button assignment is a big deal and I hope they listen to that request as they have some of the others.
Looks like the paddles work pretty well as you were killing it on Kaboom!
Do you know what format do you need to format your sd card to put the roms .
@@anthonyub1111 use exFat format. Supposedly won't work above 128 GB, I am using a 64 GB card.
Cool video Jon. I hope they will allow boxart so we can see what game we are playing . Able to change our Respect ratio. And earlier bezel add on. That look at cfg file.
Thanks for covering the new SD card features. Something I'm keeping my eye on.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching! 😀
Yes! Controller mapping is the most important upgrade needed! I love the GSP, just need mapping
I am so glad I found this channel! Going to do a lot of testing!
I'm glad you found us, too! 😀
Another AWESOME video Jon! So excited by the Atari Paddle folder. You can bet I'll be loading that up soon! Keep up the good work! :)
So stoked you made this video!! Thanks!! You have helped me so much!!! 😃🕹️
Happy to help!
Mine will be here Thursday the refurb deal too good to pass up!
10:45 I have Atari 2600 and Kaboom . Kaboom was my first time I experienced anxiety. Nostalgia overload. 👍
As always great video 👍 My greatest wish (next to the ones you already mentioned) is save state for all the systems 😊
I thought similarly about "special power" folder names, but couldn't find any magic combination.
Interesting about the controllers.
@@GenXGrownUp The Arcade1up Micro Consoles (Pac-Man and Mega Man) appear to be similar devices as the Atari GSP.
this is the ultimate arcade machine with mame roms just dont expect anything like narc or mortal kombat to play perfectly. Tmnt arcade, simpsons arcade and wrestlefest play perfectly
Instead of backing up with the B Button, Back up with the home key on the controller!! This works without going all the way back to the main Consoles folder!!
👌
@@GenXGrownUp Make a small video about the folder management system perhaps 2 mins to list more of the folder managements and file managements
@@marty712 There's no trick to it - just manual folder creation and file copying.
Thanks tons!!
Yep, it's just that easy!
I want Colecovision Support!!!
A perfect Video ! Thanks Jon !
This new update is really a good step in the good direction.
Now, let's wait patiently for that Y button remapping.
And of course right after I post this ^ comment I discovered that the 'view' button also works as the SNES's 'A' botton. :P
Looks cool, I have no need to play non-Atari systems on this thing.
Some 16-bit ROMs do have a bit of stutter. Guessing the hardware is just on the ragged edge of capable for those titles.
You would think menu function would be done with the guide button (the big glowing one in the center with the Xbox logo on it) not the Y button but thata just me.
That behaves as the HOME button.
@@GenXGrownUp I was thinking of it like the guide menu on the 360 or the home menu on the Wii and then you push a button on that to take you back to the game selection screen.
Or like the steam Deck it has 2 menus and uses a button combo for the other (guide + A)
Support or addition of Atari Lynx games would be nice.
Great video. On the Arcade Games, how did you edit the CFG to set the correct aspect ratios, bezels, etc (using Donkey Kong as your example)?
I didn't need to edit anything. That's the beauty of it - just grab those artwork packs and the screen aspect is fixed for you.
Appreciate the video !! Can you please tell me what XBox controller that you are using ? Thanks
Sure. It's linked in the video description.
I would add paddle controls for the arcade built in titles and Lynx as well as Jaguar support for the sd card added games into my wishlist so we can have an all in one atari console.
Are there built-in arcade games that use a paddle? I think they would all require a spinner.
@@GenXGrownUp Warlords comes to mind, isn't that a paddle game?
@@aler0506 Warlords *might* work with a paddle, but the arcade game has spinners.
Jon, I tested the joysticks on The C64 (Commodore 64 replica) and they work beautifully, though the paddle wasn't supported.
To return to the game screen, push the [TV Type] switch up and down again."
So, I surmise that, since the GSP pauses emulation while toggling switches, Secret Quest is only looking for the moment the switch moves to BW, but since emulation is paused at that moment, it doesn't get the chance to react.
This is the latest software update at time of this reply.
It's entirely up to preference.
I wonder if USB paddles will work onnthr GSP. One way to test it would be to use a mouse.
I wouldn't expect so. The software isn't expecting them, so even if the hardware sees them, they likely wouldn't control games.
I've read on atari age that if you use the nes config for tg16 the controls work fine

@@MrMikelauer, you brought the discussion here, so I hoped you'd share the info as well.
It is, right?! The controller I am using is in linked right in the video description. Thanks!
It would be nice to be able to use a usb trak ball on the system
It would. Just not part of the design.
How are you connecting the Xbox controller to the AGP ?
Also some game types their Bios file anything on that ?
Wirelessly. No BIOS files required for supported platforms.
Has anyone tried plugging in a usb keyboard and hitting the standard Retroarch menu keys during an sd card game?
How and where did you get the rom for Donkey Kong, Space invaders, and Astro Blast?

Sadly I can’t upgrade my GSP because Myarcade have decided not too release a Mac version of the upgrade. I have written to their support but responded with a terse reply of “Unfortunately, there will not be a Mac version of the software.” No explanation of why or a possible work around. Very disappointed.
Anyone else in this situation?
As with lots of consumer electronics, Mac & Linux users will likely need to hit up a Windows friend for 10 minutes to run this update. For what it's worth, one little nugget in this update that I didn't mention but will be of interest to you: changes made in this firmware version set up for future updates being possible from the SD card with no computer necessary (other than to load the SD card, of course).
i wish they would allow button remapping because some games via roms are unplayable like street fighter arcade games y button brngs up menu plus its attack. also super mario bros nes b button shoots fireball on xbox controller and a is jump. complete opposite of nes b fireball a jump. desperately need button remapping. also mame cheat support and snap saves would be awesome. wrestlefest, simpsons arcade, tmnt arcade, tmnt in time work flawlessly. cant find wwf superstars rom..
Oh, we know. They haven't DISALLOWED it, they simply haven't yet had an opportunity to address it. We could only play SNES & PCE games as of this firmware, and there's not yet been an updated version since. There's no guarantee of remapping, but they are aware of the desire.
@@GenXGrownUpthat and mame cheats should be added next update hopefully or keyboard support ? its still very impressive
I believe the link to the site is in my Gamestation Pro troubleshooting video description.
@@GenXGrownUp Thank you. I am watching that video now. Love the way this system is working out so far. Thank you for the content. I got 2 gsp now and adding my first games.
Playing Atari, that’s a paddlin’.
You got my reference! 🥰
Hi, great videos!. Can one delete a game that comes with the firmware? for games he will never play. Thanks and best regards
Thanks! Under the just-released community firmware, you can!
Sounds great. Thanks for your quick answer

Mine doesn't read the sd card and it doesn't pop up or anything. Any help?? It's like the sd card isn't even in there

Are there any paddle controllers that will work with gamestation pro rather than the wee paddle on the joystick
Not that I'm aware of.
This is awesome! Now I wonder if this will work for MAME Roms such as Arkanoid. Could the paddles work in a similar way?
Worth trying - let me know what you discover!

Need the paddle to work with Ikari Warriors and Forgotten worlds
Like Tempest, Ikari & FW require spinners; not paddles. 🥲
In 1.20 you could return to the main menu by pressing home on the console.
Yes, and you'd be stuck there until restarting, though.
@@GenXGrownUp That is correct.😉
Can I put the Atari 2600 Paddle directory INSIDE the Atari 2600 directory? Or do I have to have it as games/Atari 2600 and games/Atari 2600 Paddle both?
That's a really good question, and one I haven't tested. Should be easy enough to test it nested and then move back to the root if it fails.
I did the update last week and Kaboom was working using the paddle. Today I wanted to play and it is no longer responding. Only using the joystick works. Are you having this issue by any chance? I am not sure what happened??
Same here, not working.
Button mapping issues? That's a PADDLIN'!
🏆
What about the Jaguar system?
What about it?
I put the bezel artwork in the artwork folder but its not coming up. Those same files work on the PC version of MAME. How did you get it to work?
I didn't do anything special. The artwork folder needs to be a sibling folder to samples, and the filenames should match the ROM filenames. (I didn't do any renaming - the already match.) Note that there aren't artwork packs for every single game.
@@GenXGrownUp Thank you sir. I will try a couple more combinations. 😊
Please ask them to add support for the MyArcade Super Game Pad!
You'd think supporting their own controller would be a no-brainer.
Pressing Home and Start (at the same time) at the Main Menu is not getting me to the list of directories- nothing happens. I updated my firmware and confirmed it is now 1.30. My sd card has a directory called "games" with sub directories for consoles under it. Any ideas what is wrong?
Did it work before the update? Have you checked the troubleshooting tips in the pinned comment of my upgrade video? Lots of steps there to help.
