Such a great band...when a band can break a song down to acoustic guitar and vocals and still sound this good you know how truly talented they are...well done!
I didn't think there was a way I could love this song more, and then I heard this.... Just one more reason why Dawes will be my favorite band forever. The collosal moving power of poetry and music wielded gently...
+DJ P m0ney It is so hard for me to decide which my favorite is, but I think it's between this one and "I Can't Think About it Now," and I loved both versions live at St. Louis' The Pageant in June 2015, great guitar solos on both.
What a great tune! I can hear particular influences in this song, (Don Henley specifically, momentarily), but they sure have their own style and sound. I can hear why someone stated they have a sort of 'Laurel Canyon' type sound. They're certainly every bit as good as that era.
Funny thing is CBS Goodmorning recently interviewed Taylor and asked him about that California sound influence. He laughed and said he knew of those bands but it wasn't what he listened to or was familiar with...
She went from table manners to tunnel vision to premature farewells With a restlessness reserved for those who believe in themselves She thought the world was hers so she made sure it bent beneath her will She was as new and as ancient as the solar paneled hills She was certain she could take this town by storm The wonder of sound and light seeking a form But somewhere along the way The dots didn’t all connect The promise became regrets Somewhere along the way The dream and the circumstance Continue their tortured dance Somewhere along the way She was my lullaby personified, my vision in the mist But her contacts were all promoters and a westside therapist The 5ams, the worried friends, the parting of her lips But I needed to witness someone wrestle with what it means to just exist How her only plan in life was getting lost How she took me to the edge and made me watch But somewhere along the way The running just lost it’s fun It happens to everyone Somewhere along the way Her trail became too obscure But that was her signature She would talk about letting go - I guess I didn’t understand Giving over to the currents that were there since time began And on a long drive from El Paso to the Pacific Ocean cliffs I finally felt connected to the continental drift But somewhere along the way I started to smile again I don’t remember when Somewhere along the way Things will turn out just fine I know it’s true this time
When people ask me why I like Dawes, I show them this. Just perfect.
you really don't see such complex lyrics like this anymore... excellent
floored.
this one hits way to close to home

3:46 - just absolutely brilliant
this is my favorite Dawes video on the whole internet.
I can see this song in a concert with synths and strings. Very nice harmonies.
An incredibly beautiful song. Heartbreaking yet hopeful. Love it.
Masterful and beautiful. Incomparably eloquent lyricist. And the HARMONIES. Truly beautiful
I think the bridge with its harmonies takes the song to another level.

Is this the most beautiful video on the internet? Maybe..... just maybe
When that chorus hit I had to look around to make sure a train wasn't coming
And hat dude is tripping me out
Superb harmonies.
That was just plain terrific guy's, Loved it.
Love the acoustic version! I think it's awesome that you guys do different versions/arrangements to your stuff. #keepinitfresh
I love the tight shot until the harmonies.. beautiful
im a sucka for those harmonies though! great song!
It's wild to see early videos where Griffin is completely cleanshaven and babyfaced and now he's got that amazing beard. I love this band.
Beautiful

“How her only plan in life was getting lost.
How she took me to the edge and made me watch.”
That is fucking sad, man :(
Outstanding lyrics and great harmonies. Love it 👌🏻

It's the songwriting that sucks me in every time @Dawes
So this is this band Dawezzzzzzzz. Wake me when it's over. Dawes fans need to get out more, see some more bands.
She went from table manners to tunnel vision to premature farewells
With a restlessness reserved for those who believe in themselves
She thought the world was hers so she made sure it bent beneath her will
She was as new and as ancient as the solar paneled hills
She was certain she could take this town by storm
The wonder of sound and light seeking a form
But somewhere along the way
The dots didn’t all connect
The promise became regrets
Somewhere along the way
The dream and the circumstance
Continue their tortured dance
Somewhere along the way
She was my lullaby personified, my vision in the mist
But her contacts were all promoters and a westside therapist
The 5ams, the worried friends, the parting of her lips
But I needed to witness someone wrestle with what it means to just exist
How her only plan in life was getting lost
How she took me to the edge and made me watch
But somewhere along the way
The running just lost it’s fun
It happens to everyone
Somewhere along the way
Her trail became too obscure
But that was her signature
She would talk about letting go - I guess I didn’t understand
Giving over to the currents that were there since time began
And on a long drive from El Paso to the Pacific Ocean cliffs
I finally felt connected to the continental drift
But somewhere along the way
I started to smile again
I don’t remember when
Somewhere along the way
Things will turn out just fine
I know it’s true this time
hello
Goofy band, great songwriting, hahahah. I like it a lot.
