You are the best man. To have the integrity to show pics of your subs and followers... very cool. That guy closing the doors looked right pissed. Hilarious. Great shots. Couldn’t tell the focus was off on my tv.
Terrific vlog Gareth. I am always a bit disappointed when they end! :-) The photo of the young girl was great, but my favorite were the two reflections (8&9). Thanks for doing these!
So many great shoots! #4 love the grumpy old man, #6 really cool shot, #9, #10, #11/12 love the girls under the umbrella. Always enjoy your street photography!
Great vlog as always....think 8 was my favourite of this set and i loved 4 in b&w too. Thanks for sharing my image of the skater at 13:42 too. Look forward to the next vid :)
Hey Gareth, it looks like you had a really fantastic day at the Sean Tucker meet. I was and I still am really gutted I missed it after telling you about it, so once again, sorry buddy, another time eh? Anyway, I’m having to use my wife’s iPad as mine is playing up but your photos were amazing and of course Jim’s were as well. I have learnt something from watching so all wasn’t lost by me not going. I must get to China Town for some inspiration sometime. Cheers Gareth. All the best from Potters Bar, London. Tony
Hi Gareth.. enjoyed watching all your adventure videos about street photography.. i have a question about your method of taking street photography.. i normally see you using pre focus style. Is pre focus method the same as back button focus? Cheers
@@GarethDanks thank for clarifying.. hope to see more video about your street photography in the future.. you have a great collection of photos in your Instagram and i love it.. keep it up mate.. see you soon.. cheers
Just found your channel. I'm from south Wales to and just got into taking pictures a year and a half ago. Though I understand most things I still have a lot to learn but street photography is my favorite? Do you ever go to Cardiff at all? Also brecon and that is stunning but only manage to hiking with the kids when it sunny most of the time and the light is never good in the middle of the day but do the best i can
Hey man thanks for watching! i do yes... theres two vids on here from cardiff.. security, and back button focusing :-) yeah beacons are incredible but you need a tent haha.. thanks for the comment mate!
The second photo of the little girl is fantastic, probably my favourite of the set. I find taking photos of children on the street the most daunting aspect of street photography, I tend to avoid it. I enjoy your street videos, thanks for making them.
Great video, as always. I will say that all my own personal favourite street images are the ones where I’ve ‘been caught’, that perfect momentary instance of eye to eye connection between the subject and the photographer.
The problem with the "I've been caught" shot is that it's basically the same "story" as the other 82,498,210 shots photographers have done where they were "caught." Street photography, at least in the classical sense, is about story, and someone looking at a camera is rather limited in that regard. Ditch the backpacks and camera straps that scream "I'm a photographer," Blend with the crowd and go for story in facial expressions, expressive postures, multiple people relating to each other, gestures or readable actions of those you shoot on the street. Just one viewpoint. If you really like the "caught" thing, go for that.
hey Robert thanks for the comment sorry for the delay replying! in response i didnt opt for that shot or style of shot.. i took it not knowing he was looking at me! he wasnt when i saw the composition.. only when i pressed the shutter i realised he was.. i just go out and shoot what i like.. its just fun.. no rules. im not claiming to be anything special. thanks for the comment again Robert
I think Adams is completely wrong. If you want to go out wearing a hot dog costume, with a back pack, do it. Whatever makes you happy taking photos. Gareth, I like your outlook on sharing your photography. Keep it up buddy!
I'm not sure as to why you are missing shots when you are shooting at f8 and focusing at 3 m (10 ft.). With my X-100f set at f8 and focused at 10 ft. everything is in focus between 6 ft. and more than 30 ft. For the street scene, I prefer to use f8 and hyperfocal setting which covers everything from about 7 ft. to ∞. I also use a small strip of gafer tape on the underside of the lens to 'lock' the aperture ring and focus ring together to avoid inadvertently moving the focus ring especially when shooting with the camera held at waist level.
Hey man thanks for the comment! the shots i was referring to were in lower light at f4.. the alley way mainly.. tho i do notice they're not as pin sharp as if id selected the area first.. tho using zone focus is very handy :-)
Nice work mate. I really like those images where you used the big glass windows of the building. Need to give this street photography another go me thinks. :-)
Another really good ‘Street’ vid. I’ve always found it difficult to understand why you pre-focus when you’re walking around. Continuous auto focus is so fast and accurate and isolation isn’t often an issue.
hey stuart mate.. i pre focus using a focal range in mind.. so f8 focused at 3 meters and im ready to snap (most of the time) in good light this works.. in lower light pre focusing on the area i want the subject to be in an the viewer to look at guarantees just that.. af is great but i rarely use it for anything other than tracking :-)
Done China town 18 months ago on a very hot day got a couple of good pictures, at the end of the shoot we decided to have a Chinese meal there, BIG MISTAKE! It was awful. I enjoyed your shoot, thank you.....
Great video. I’m from Wales too, currently living in Oz . I’m looking forward to going to Cardiff in August do a bit of street photography. I have bought the f100x ready 😃.
👍Love your dedication to the craft, Gareth. 4 hour drive to/from venue in same day? - ouch. Pic 2 my fav, but would like more exposure on the girl’s face. Focus target changes - fixed and then switched when you see a comp. at a distance other than pre-focus. Sounds like the long press feature of the Rico GR 3 would solve that problem and be perfect for you - half press shutter for ad hoc focus but quickly depress shutter all the way for focus at pre-set (“snap”) distance. You must know about it. What are your thoughts? Cheers.
Hello Gareth, I just love street photography, yes it is challenging but in a good way. Actually, I find it exciting because you do not know what you will see or get when out! The subject matter is so varied and it helps greatly if you just ' Go with the Flo '...
Well I’ve tried twice recently. Once with a film camera. My GoPro died and so I lost all the clips. But have a new osmo now so very soon. I’m in Italy this weekend and hope to film that. Another next week then I hope. We had a baby 3 weeks ago too so all is mega 😂
Gareth Danks congrats again on the new arrival, life will change now. Still in approx 18/19 years when they leave home you’ll have time to do some photography again lol. In the meantime enjoy your time in Italy and thx for the reply 👍
Been into Birmingham today and took my camera. I do not know if it is because I am on my own but I do not seem to see the pictures like I do with landscape shots. I am also reluctant to take photographs of people while out.
@@GarethDanks lol it's an American slang for good. But typically an expression used by stoners/hippies for something of high quality. Though I am not of said hippie/stoner.

Hi Gareth.. enjoyed watching all your adventure videos about street photography.. i have a question about your method of taking street photography.. i normally see you using pre focus style. Is pre focus method the same as back button focus? Cheers
hey Marvin, yes mate.. i use BBF and lock it to a zone, either 2 meters away or infinity. the shutter wont move the focus then.. :-)

Love your London vids mate. Favourite for me was No 9 - reflection of the chap walking, kicking himself!
Hey Jamie. How are you mate. Yeah lots seem to like them pics lol. Good fun shooting there. 👍🏻😊

Nice video mate, actually love shot number 7! Good stuff
A fantastic area to shoot in. I find that if you can handle London for street photography, you can handle pretty much any big city.
Nice work yet again. You really are good at street lol
Haha just lucky mate. Cheers for watching tho 😊👍🏻
Great vid. again Gareth, nice to see different places up London and what your looking for in terms of light or combo.
looks like Jim has a very similar style to my own street photography! great video as always Gareth ~
