  • Dave and Trevor break down the differences between a drop spindle and a coil-over shock setup. Which setup is better for you? The coil-over setup? The drop spindle? Or...BOTH?!

    great video alot of good points brought up about both coil overs and drop spindles. i had heard sometimes with a dropped spindle and using a deep backspace on the wheel you could interfere with the tie rod ends and the wheel so you may have to use an 18 inch wheel to clear when using the dropped spindle

    You get the perfect stance but now the suspension doesn't work with the new ride height. So much to learn and so few to teach because its a lot more complicated than most want to deal with. It cost tons to get it right.

      Yes,Mike Maier has a video on Not going with the drop spindles on certain cars (classic Mustang, etc.). Yes it looks cool, and you'll wow the local hotdogs.But if your competing, it leads to problems. He used drop spindles on his record setting Mustang and went back to stock height spindles.

    Does your drop spindle work with a disc brake conversion (Tri-Five) or does it only work with Wilwood brakes? Thanks for any advice!!!

    I may be wrong, but don't you lose 2" of suspension travel using coilovers or drop springs? Won't that increase ride harshness over what you'd get with drop spindles and stock replacement or even performance springs? Would stock height coilovers and drop spindles be a better, though more costly approach? If not, why not?

    I ordered your QA1 kit that includes the crossmember with the rack and pinion, I was watching the video he saying the benefits of getting this kit is for lowering further then anyone can. I cuurently had planned on keeping it at stock height. What benefits can i see by lowering it?? i also plan on ordering your rear suspension kit with new sway bars front and back. i also plan on using 15" wheels would it be better to use the 18" wheels instead of taking the spacer out from the tie rod end?? PS do you offer lowering spindles lol obviously noone reads the previous comments

    • @QA1TECH
      @QA1TECH  Год назад

      The benefits of lowering your vehicle is that it optimizes your performance and handling for overall better driveability and ride quality. Keep in mind that the ride height drop ranges from 2-6" depending on which setup you have, so you don't have to lower it too far from stock ride height if you do not want to. We do not offer lowering springs. For the wheel setup, I would recommend calling into our tech line for some recommendations. They are available M-F 9am-5pm CST. 952-985-5675

    Guys out there, please be careful not to go crazy with the adjustments with the coilovers. Going too low can mess up the geometry of the vehicle. Basically putting strain on your control arms and other suspension components to the of failure. doing too much dampening, too little dampening, too much rebound, and too little rebound can cause undesired handling characteristics. Just be careful or go to professional suspension tech to help with your needs.
    Drop spindles not affect the geometry of the vehicle. however they can be very expensive to purchase.
    i use both for racing situations for my BMW. I use the drop spindle to lower the vehicles center of gravity without effecting the geometry. Then using the coilovers really only the tuning the handling of the vehicle.

    I think adjustable coilovers and drop spindles serve different purposes. I personally use both on my 56 belair. I got the CO's to level it out. If I had, let's say a 61 Impala, I'd go with drop spindles on stock wheels or stock type bigger wheels. But that's my personal preference. However, I don't know if I'd use the full 4" drop on CO's as it might interfere with steering and alignment with stock suspension. It depends on the car.

    Question: I am on the edge of almost ordering QA1 coilovers for my 01 Silverado regular cab. I want to achieve a 4/6 drop . Do I also need a drop spindle?
    Will be my daily not for any racing. Do you recommend the 650 springs or the 750?

    • @QA1TECH
      @QA1TECH  3 месяца назад

      Yes, you will need the drop spindles to achieve the 4/6 drop. If you are running the stock engine and the truck is just going to be a street cruiser, the 650 lb. springs should work fine!

      A rear flip kit could be an option? Otherwise we could most likely offer a shock length setup where it would match that 2" drop. I would recommend reaching out to our tech team for some ideas and recommendations! 952-985-5675 or Sales@QA1.net

      Hi there! We currently do not catalog anything for this vehicle. We may be able to make some shocks work depending on your specs. Please measure your shocks at your desired ride height from center of eyelet to center of eyelet and call our tech team with this information. Based on that, we will be able to recommend something if we offer it! We also have a tech article and video on how to properly measure your shocks if you have further questions. Our tech team can be reached at 952-985-5675 M-F 8am-5pm CST. Thanks! www.qa1.net/tech-center/tech-articles/how-to-measure-custom-shocks

      We do offer factory replacement shocks that allow you to adjust your compression and rebound to provide better ride quality and handling. They will not lower the vehicle.

      Bigger front sway bar would help a lot , better shocks and adding a rear sway bar if your car didn’t come with out. Bigger wheels do help as well believe it or not

      Drag race muscle cars maybe, but remember when the manufacturers went Trans Am and Nascar Racing with basically stock bodied cars. They were lowered.

    Completely missed the point of drop spindles.... You get the lower height but you have the correct suspension geometry, as with coilovers you get lower height with bad suspension geometry...
