I was introduced to Brock Purdy when he was a freshman at Iowa State and he played WSU in the Alamo Bowl. I thought he was very impressive as a freshman QB and I have always kept an eye on him. Started this season wondering if our newest high draft pick was ready, kinda miffed when Jimmy G was cast aside. Started the preseason pretty conflicted, then all of a sudden, this Brock Purdy guy starts playing. Extreme accurate passing even down field, this guy can also throw lightning quick darts into tight windows, bull fighter type elusiveness, yet fearless in the pocket, who is this guy? Then coach Shanahan does this one series with backup Nate Sudfeld from Chicago (given a million dollar signing bonus), and Purdy the next series. Purdy clearly outshines Sudfeld, and actually outshines Lance too, but no one wanted to admit that at the time. Even in the last preseason game, a clunker game against the now lowly Texans, in which everyone played atrocious, Purdy actually in the closing minutes pushed scoreless SF into the red zone, and with seconds remaining threw a perfect strike, right between the numbers in the back of the end zone, that ended up being dropped by the receiver, which fit exactly the kind of day it was for SF. But I was already hooked. This kid outshined every other QB that suited up. I remember lamenting my fear that SF would place him on the practice squad and he’d be swooped up by another team, and that would be that. Thought it was a long shot that 1. SF would keep 3 QBs,, let alone cut Sudfeld (losing a 1 million signing bonus), so once the 53 man roster was announced, I was so happy the niners did right by Brock. From there everyone who would listen, I would tell them about this “Mr. Irrelevant” phenom I watched play magnificently during the preseason. I Hoped I would see him play again, but 3rd string QBs are usually relegated to rare mop up duties so I wasn’t all that hopeful. Later, while watching the Trey Lance Injury game at my grown married daughters house, with friends over, after the injury, I again told everyone about this kid from preseason, now the number 2 QB. They probably thought I was crazy, but he was one step closer. I even lamented, god forbid, if Jimmy got hurt, to watch out for this guy. I even said I think he was good enough to take em all the way (I’ll need to wait and see on that prediction). Once Jimmy went down, and Brock stepped up, it was nice to get a text from my daughter remembering my then, outlandish prediction. Now this is exactly why I absolutely love sports. It’s not big headed snobby players playing perfectly, but the one in a million long shot players, who work their butts off, struggle, overcome, rinse and repeat. This is that kinda story, and I can’t help thinking this QB could of never been drafted, and ended up not getting the chance to even make it in this league, and then do so, and have this opportunity to show who he is. It’s a wonderful story, that needs to be told. I really think this could turn out to be a much more incredible ride to watch going forward. I think he is that good and his talent deserves the playbook to be rewritten to further showcase his abilities. I think he is in the right spot, at the right time. When he came in after Jimmy Gesus went down, I didn’t know anything about him. All I knew was he was our qb for the rest of the season. And what a season it was. After game 7, I said that I didn’t expect the niners to lose any more games from now on. I think Armstead might have been coming back week 8 or something. He's currently my QB2 for the 2021 draft, only behind Lawrence. The way he drags Iowa St with no talent to being competitive against the big boys he played against is reminiscent of Mahomes at Texas Tech. He's got great accuracy, creativity, and is comfortable when things are messy around him unlike some other QBs that are currently highly touted *cough* Trey Lance *cough*. I legitimately don't know how someone can watch Jaime Newman and Purdy and come away thinking Newman is better. I know that Fields also exists, but I'm talking Purdy if I had to choose today.
In what world does iowa state have no talent? Check your facts before you say this. Purdy’s freshman year he had 2 draft picks in David Montgomery and Hakeem Butler, and going into this year he has an all american tight end in Charlie Kolar and a solid defensive core.

Brady had to wait for an injury to Bledsoe. This is my biggest issue with Lance. Assuming he’s gonna be good, guy didn’t even play a full college career. Brock is already better than Trey in my eyes.

This is that kinda story, and I can’t help thinking this QB could of never been drafted, and ended up not getting the chance to even make it in this league, and then do so, and have this opportunity to show who he is. It’s a wonderful story, that needs to be told. I really think this could turn out to be a much more incredible ride to watch going forward. I think he is that good and his talent deserves the playbook to be rewritten to further showcase his abilities. I think he is in the right spot, at the right time. When he came in after Jimmy Gesus went down, I didn’t know anything about him. All I knew was he was our qb for the rest of the season. And what a season it was. After game 7, I said that I didn’t expect the niners to lose any more games from now on. I think Armstead might have been coming back week 8 or something. Who ever thought that Brock Purdy would be this good so far in his career
He's currently my QB2 for the 2021 draft, only behind Lawrence. The way he drags Iowa St with no talent to being competitive against the big boys he played against is reminiscent of Mahomes at Texas Tech. He's got great accuracy, creativity, and is comfortable when things are messy around him unlike some other QBs that are currently highly touted *cough* Trey Lance *cough*. I legitimately don't know how someone can watch Jaime Newman and Purdy and come away thinking Newman is better. I know that Fields also exists, but I'm talking Purdy if I had to choose today.

In what world does iowa state have no talent? Check your facts before you say this. Purdy’s freshman year he had 2 draft picks in David Montgomery and Hakeem Butler, and going into this year he has an all american tight end in Charlie Kolar and a solid defensive core.

They are. This is his chance. People need to realize this is the pros. You don’t just get a chance because u were good in college. Everyone was good in college that’s why they’re in the NFL. Brady had to wait for an injury to Bledsoe. This is my biggest issue with Lance. Assuming he’s gonna be good, guy didn’t even play a full college career. Brock is already better than Trey in my eyes.
