I love how the trailer isn't just random "gamey" stuff, it's totally marketed towards fans of the genre. Like, instead of "flashy epic battles against terrible foes" it's "perfectly balanced battles". And if you're the target audience, you know exactly which one is more promising
I have never played Dragon Quest but I can clearly tell how huge this franchise is. And that exact thing is what tells me they know their shiz. Like, this isn't the dumb "wow look at this!" marketing. It is a game that knows what it's doing because every single other RPG in one way or another has based itself off of this.
If I end up playing this, I am looking forward to playing the other Dragon Quest games.
I mean, an entire 16-bit adventure behind the already awesome 3D open world adventure? This game seems exploding with content, and the side stories for characters only add more.
@@reydesonic Well, Dragon Quest is THE most popular video game series in Japan for a reason! It's definitely an old-school, traditional series through and through, but it perfects the formula.

Well, I suggest that you try the previous DQ games. My personal recommendations would be DQ5, DQ7, DQ8 or DQ9. Although I personally love DQ9 and DQ5 among those.
That's from the 3DS version. I'm excited, because I thought that we'd never see that mode in English when they said that only the PS4/PC version would be translated.

We're glad that Square Enix decided to include orchestral music by default, we were planning to adapt out Orchestral Overhaul Mod for the Switch version but now it will no longer be necessary.
Naturally, we still plan to release it for the PS4 version as soon as newer PS4 firmwares become moddable.

No it's not a meme, it was a completely serious comment from me as I'm one of the team members behind the Orchestral Overhaul Mod which is currently available for PC. We were planning to support PS4 and Switch versions later down the line but since Switch version comes with it by default, we will only add support for PS4 once higher firmware becomes hackable.

Kevin Pereira Not sure if what I’m saying is a meme. But if it was related to DQ at all, DQ is infamous for releasing with synth music as opposed to the fully orchestrated music that should have been in the game to begin with.
My PS4 and I are super-jealous right now! But I'm really glad this game is going to a console where people will give it the attention it deserves.
I hope you're right. I'm holding off on the PS4 version of this game to get it on the Switch myself. I'd love to see the series become more of a staple on Nintendo consoles, so that's part of the motivation here.
It looks like the Switch will be having a strong latter half to 2019, so there is some worry of this game getting lost in the shuffle, but I'll remain optimistic for now. I can't wait.

I never thought we would get an orchestrated soundtrack since I heard the composer is pretty strict. Nintendo must've paid a huge amount of money to make it happen.
Dragon Quest has always been basically more of a Nintendo consoles franchise, so I'm not surprised. Besides, Nintendo has proven to love the series.
@@n000rbi1 it's a pretty considerable update, but I'm not holding my breath that it'll end up anywhere else, since it's the composer's fault we didn't get the orchestrated soundtrack. There must be some kind of deal either Nintendo or Enix made.
I'm kinda glad I held off on purchasing it. To be fair, hearing that it wasn't orchestrated kept me from spending money on the game.

Yeah.. I wondered why they made the original choice to have just your own character shown in the first place? When I played it on PS4, I thought it was really odd and thought perhaps its a callback to old school RPGs where you didn't see the whole team. Glad they rectified it here, but perhaps the other versions need a patch to show the whole group. Def. weird original decision tho.

Heck the fact that this came out during Smash development and Nintendo choosing the characters, a DQ character definitely has to have been brought up. Thats not even mentioning that there publishing another DQ game for switch in Japan.

I kept saying if the Switch has a "Retro Mode" like Japan had on the 3DS I would play this again, so I'm buying this again day 1 and looking forward to beating it in 16-bit mode. EDIT: Wait a second, we get the orchestra soundtrack on this version? This is The Definitive Edition by far.
I played this on the Playstation 4 in September 2018. Idk how different the orchestrated soundtrack is from the electronic one but some themes in the music were REALLY grating and repetitive.
yeah same now I don't feel so bad about the 3DS version not getting localized. Obviously it's not the same version but it looks like they're trying to consolidate the unique flavors of the 3DS and PS4 versions which is what I was hoping for.

The Japanese version of the trailer has less compressed footage, I sure once folks get to see the gameplay uncompressed the complaining will lessen.

@@whitewolf3051 that's been confirmed in Japanese interviews with Yuji Horii, that you can "marry" any of the party members. There's a translated interview on the website Gematsu

In one single trailer Nintendo has sold Dragon Quest XI S better than every single Western trailer from last year.
I really don't know why Square Enix was so confident they could do it themselves when they have never been able to sell Dragon Quest in the West before. Going to Sony would have really helped, even just getting a trailer into Sony's E3 conference. At least Nintendo is doing it this time around, hopefully it does a lot better in the West on Switch.
I think it well. There's a lot of overlap between old-school JRPG fans and Nintendo fans, and DQ games have traditionally been Nintendo exclusives. A lot of Nintendo fans like me grew up with DQ.
In any case, this version will probably outsell the PS4 one in Japan in record time.

Alex Peraza Oh for sure. When SE Japan kept showing only voice acting I got concerned it would be mostly a straight port, and those mostly perform poorly in Japan. With all this new content, plus the 3DS stuff, and a lot marketing behind it, no way does it not beat the PS4 version.
For the West, it's a good thing Nintendo America loves DQ and understands how the sell it far more than SE America

I just got the PS4 version and beat the game (including the real post game ending boss) and have played it for 150 hrs. At one point I was gonna wait for the Switch version, but I feared it was never coming. And now here it is, with the 16-bit mode and orchestrated soundtrack, and Japanese VO!!!!!!! And it’s potable! Screw it I say, that’s well worth me buying it again, and playing it all over!!!

Wow you plat and want to double dip I like the game too but it felt weak compared to older titles the story was okay-good but the characters specifically slv and Veronica was amazing the voice acting was on point Gemma need to join the fight and become rivals with Jade also speaking of Jade/Veronica/Slv/Erik ending I don't care about Gemma or Serena there's basically the same person in my eye

This game is a gem. If you like traditional rpgs or just rpgs in general, get this one, it's fantastic. Already have it on my PS4 and definitely getting it again on switch. 😊

This is a good game, but I would definitely recommend Nintendo’s first party exclusives; Mario cart 8, the legend of Zelda botw, super Mario Odyssey, xenoblade chronicles 2, super smash bros ultimate, and Bayonetta 1 and 2 are great games that are worth the play through.

@@alsamiyasfh4416 Eh, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is pretty hit-or-miss depending on who you ask. Some people love it, others (like me) couldn't stand it. The rest of the list are pretty much universally acclaimed, though.
Guys, DQ XI sold more than 5.5 million units worldwide, and Yuji Hori the creator, announced that they began working on DQ XII since last year (2019).

Loved this game so much. The characters, the story are magnificent. I'm glad it is coming to the switch so more get to play it. I'm probably going to buy it a second time just for the sake of collecting it.

I kind of got tired of the battle theme but what if they added in more costumes from hero from other games that changes the music these clothes would then be cosmetics only and not affect stats
The midi really didn't bother me that much, but I'm happy that they added orchestral music. Can't wait to play this game again... probably multiple times?

@@spieletaiment8902 If you liked 9, you'll probably like this one. XI is more of a spiritual successor to 8 aesthetically, but it's basically a love letter to the entire franchise. Anyway, story-wise, most DQ games are quite similar: "Chosen one destined to save the world from an ancient EVIL" stuff.

This trailer brought me to tears man. Been waiting for this game for so long. I hope this sells the best on switch, strengthen ties with Square and Nintendo so that square will continue to bring their IPs to Nintendo consoles. Having the best version of the game be exclusive to switch is a bigger deal than people are crediting it with, if it sells the best on switch then there’s a good chance that this type of love will continue to exist between the two companies

I believe many younger DQ fans, like me, had 9 as their first in the series. I would love a 9 remaster. I never got the chance to connect to the internet and download dungeons so I hope I get that chance again one day.

no. You market it without possibly making the extra stuff Switch Exclusive. Bringing it out including extra content? OK, but then not without screwing over fans who bought it on PC/PS4 a year before the Switch launch. Otherwise I can't help but to look at this as them trying to make people who already bought it for PC/PS4 buy the game again for the extra stuff. Which for some would mean to also buy a switch.

I can't believe I've been missing out on this franchise my whole life. This is an RPG. And I LOVE how the marketing talks about stuff we should actually care and look for. A classic chosen-one story, an artstyle reminiscent of the old days, tight, well thought out gameplay (they even go as far as to say 'balanced gameplay' which is something EVERY RPG should focus on, especially nowadays where they seem to be focusing on being too accessible or too easy), the feel of freedom, the fact that they satisfy the always conflicting two sides of 2D and 3D that has plagued modernized RPGs born in the early stages of gaming...
And I'm just saying this based on impressions. Never played DQ. This is what the trailer is telling me and it works.
Should I get into Dragon Quest as a whole?

This game is definitely the most accessible in the series so i'd recommend starting here with 11 and working your way back if you like it. The top two other DQ games I'd recommend would be DQ 5 and 8. 5 has the best story imo and 8 having the best gameplay. 5 and 8 both have remastered ports for the Nintendo DS and 3DS respectively which are improved over the originals and are generally easier to acquire
Alot of the dq games are available on mobile . They are really fun games.
You realy should play dragon warrior 7 on PS1 and Dragon Quest 8 on PS2, both masterpieces

I know literally nothing about Dragon Quest but, I've been wanting an RPG on my switch. And, this game looks promising.
The Dragon Quest series is great! If you have a 3DS, get 7 and 8 for it. They also released 4-6 and 9 for the DS, but you can play them on a 3DS. Thank goodness for backwards compatability. :)

They definitely did the series justice in this direct almost giving it as much time as fire emblem.

Honestly gave Dragon Quest a chance recently after playing Pokémon for years, god I so regret picking up Pokémon Sword instead of DQ XI 2 years ago…

This is so freaking awesome to see that Nintendo is publishing a definitive version of Dragon Quest XI exclusively for the Switch. Not only that, it also has a 16-bit visuals you won't see in the original version! Thumbs up to Nintendo and Square Enix.

I never played a Dragon quest game. But this looks really good!
I wanted to buy it for PC but I love playing JRPGs on the go. I'll go with the Switch version this time.
I already know this is going to beat out DQV as my favorite game of all time. I would buy a PS4 to play this, but then I found out I could wait and just buy a Switch to play this. And now there's an orchestral soundtrack and added content. I made the right decision
III I’m a long time Dragon Quest fan, DQXI was great but not better than DQV. DQVIII for the PS2 is my favorite game of all time.
I'm not even pissed that I have to buy it again.

This is my first dragon quest game I’ve only heard about this series when hero got announced in smash then got a date released for September. I’m currently playing the demo and I must say this opening won me over the this series.

I'm not even close to finished, I'm done with the first act but man this game is awesome! Great storyline, awesome characters, and the battle lineup? Absolute master piece! It's my first play too, I think I'll be looking more into DQ games now.

I put over 200 hours into the PS4 version, the first game I ever got a Platinum Trophy for. I will gladly spend $60 for an enhanced version on the switch. I truly hope the switch release will finally get DQ the respect it deserves in the West.
Already put 4 hours into the demo, and its quite clear that 11s is very special. I love the graphics, music, controls. I will be playing this twice. 3d mode on my switch, and 2d mode on my switch mini (pokemon edition)..

This legit sounds like it's actually better than the PS4 version thanks to things like the improved soundtrack and the ability to play the 16-bit version that was originally in the Japan-only 3DS version. Like now I'm really glad I waited to see what the Switch version has in store, as I own both a Switch and PS4 and was tempted to just buy the PS4 version on sale, but now I'll gladly pay full price for the Switch version.

Just finished this 100% today on PC, and was looking up some DQ news for the future. I didn't realise it was coming to Switch (I have one) with these extra features. Guess that's more money to spend and another 100 hours to put aside hahaha.

With DQ's history with Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a DQ character in Smash.
The fact that Nintendo themselves are publishing the game and choosing the DLC characters, DQ has to have been brought up at some point.
every main dragon quest game has been on a nintendo system and has a longer history with them than all of the other third parties.

@@christianlopez707 Nintendo publishing the game has nothing to say. They published every Dragon Quest game of recent years (DS, 3DS, now Switch; probably even before those ones). Square Enix barely localizes and publishes games that aren't Final Fantasy on Nintendo systems outside of Japan.

We did it guys, he is in Smash! I knew it was Luminary as soon as i saw the white horse, and i'm happy he also came with the DQ 3, 4 and 8 Heroes too.

Isn't Erdrick the DQ equivalent of Anri from Fire Emblem (i.e. the hero's ancestor)? Why would Erdrick be the Smash fighter?
