Battle city rules irl was the shit especially at school (until it was banned because they heard people were actually risking cards like in the show and considered it a form of gambling). Won a blue eyes from someone once (the original from Legend of Blue Eyes), immediately felt kinda bad and gave it back. GX had some pretty cool cards and was still fun to play overall. Hated XYZ as soon as it came out (as well as when meta decks started becoming completely untouchable by any "fun"/non-meta deck and/or pretty much required specific cards to beat them), gradually faded to a semi-strong dislike of them. Pendulum summoning (and most of the current meta) is pure cancer.
from 2003 to 2005 was when yugioh was most competitive along with being the most creative. i miss those days man. it was soooo much fun. it's fun now but its all about archetypes and no individuality in the competitive field because the cards that can make it possible are splashable and get banned for that
I loved yugioh back then because you could play the types you liked. There werent two types of decks that were broken per format before it got hit by the ban list. Lol i used to play a pure machine deck that would actually top every once in a whille. Haha i actually played machine king and jinzo as my boss mosters. I love old age yugioh.,
i bought old school starter decks to learn how to play and man its really simple. its when i started seeing XYZ and Synchro stuff that i was like damn how do i do this.
In fact, you actually *can* play old-school YGO if you want to, thanks to the Power of Chaos trilogy Konami released in 2003/2004 for PC! I created my channel to show people how good this trilogy is!
had a friend that made me take it out because he never owned one and it went on the ban list pretty early. He never mentioned monster reborn though. Funny how young minds work.
Same here. I never had Raigeki back then but I wanted one badly. Even today I still don't have one. I didn't have Mirror Force back then either. I have a bunch of those now though thanks to the releases of all these legendary collections.
YESSSSSS, I was in 8th grade and this is my DECK! This is exactly what I ran with in 2003. I to believe it is when yugioh was at it's best in terms of fun and popularity. I use to go to the mall and there would be literally 30+ people every week to duel/trade with. Then we would all walk like a huge rare hunter mob to strike zone for tournaments on Saturday haha, best time in my entire childhood LoB - AS!!
I hate decks now days, it's all about archetypes. It takes all creativity out of making the decks. I miss the days where you would have to figure out what cards would combo together
I remember playing with my friends and having a new deck every time, and not because I had a lot of cards but because they were all pretty generic effects.
Well they could have just stuck with types like spellcasters, beasts, etc. and had various cards with effects like the archetypes but you have to figure the deck out yourself. Now it's a new deck every month because each set ruins what was good previous
+shein360 Yugioh makes the cards more powerful and complicated because they want to make more money. The newer, more powerful cards would make the older cards seem like junk. Kazuki Takahashi was originally going to stop Yugioh at GX, but it continued because they simply wanted to milk the franchise. This makes me really sad. :(
+Man Holt Are you serious why would they stop at Yugioh GX if they could make money while more people were enjoying it? There is still so many people playing yugioh that would not be if they didn't "milk" it. There was never a time where you could compete or even play with friends with a deck that you just freestyled, seeing as how there was always a structure deck.
im with you 100% now and days whenever I duel people they use pre made decks and shit , like were the creativity and originality at , its about fighting different original decks , im tired of fighting , samurai, harpies, crystal beast, element heros , like it boring , you already know whats coming , if you gonna use harpies or heros then dont specificly use just them ya know
I love the old days of yugioh. I'm actually in the process of making a old school deck. I'll probably use stuff like the fang of critias or the fossil fusion monsters but that's cause they were in the original and gx series
I got the same beat down deck pretty much down to the card gotta love the beatdown deck. With the yata lock for a back-up I have all the original sets. PSV was when i starred playing and collecting. I've had them in mint condition for years i would open the packs and put them In the sleeves. I wouldn't play a card till I got an extra one for my deck. I got pretty much all the sets up till they started reprinting all the cards in those two sets. I have one of each starter deck in the packs most 1st edition LOB and the one after it was hard to get first edition. I started playing a little to late to get the 1st edition on those.I checked out your collection videos we would have had some crazy fun. If you lived close i would hang out and play like the old days. I'm glad that i didn't just give them away and saved them. I knew they would hold value in time you had magic and Pokemon those cards would go for crazy money. Then yugio always had cards worth a few bucks but nothing like black lotus for magic and can't remember the ones for Pokemon never played it at all. Good to see yugio finally getting some respect in that sence. I saved all my tins, I always wanted to buy two of each and save one wish i did. Same thing with the packs i opened so many TP packs and still got the holos from them didn't get to collect those till late so i don't have all those sets. I used to love the video game cards I always made sure i had one for my sets before i would use them. I missed the first few cause i didn't start collecting until PSV it is what it is. You got some serious cards you were not playing when it came to preserving them.
i remember back in the day running 1 7 colored fish and running various monsters with 2000 def and just sumoning buster blader or something like that, it was fun.
WOW!!! that was a mean trip down memory lane bro...those cards were a massive hype back in the days :) I remember getting my ass thrashed a few times by these lmbo! Thank you for sharing
God this video is nostalgic and a pleasure to watch. You honestly really deserve more subscribes. But regardless, I really love your videos. I can't wait till you eventually begin to make more!
I still remember this one time I put Zero Gravity in my deck which switches all face up defense monsters to attack and attack monsters to defense. It wasn't anything special, but I figured it could save me from an attack in a pinch. My first test run, I used Goblin Attack Force which got switched to defense mode. My opponent tried to attack it, but I actived Zero Gravity, only to realize my Goblins are back to attack. That was back when there was creativity in Yugioh.
sweet deck. I miss the days of playing toys-r-us tournaments when there were 3 or 4 different card packs. when 1900 attack 4 star was HUGE. when it was only LOB even a 1400 4 star was usable
This is when I played Yu-gi-oh also. I went over to magic somewhere around Pharonic Guardians. I remember using Gemini Elf and Maha Vailo equipped with Axe of Despairs/Mage Power/United we Stand.
I used airknight and kycoo in my control deck in 06-07. Kycoo was extremely effective at preventing bls nonsense. Tsukuyomi made airknight pretty useful too.
i was in Middle school when all those cards were out and I pretty much had all of the ones you had! great trip down memory lane bro! I just saw my cousin playing with all these new cards and i was like my deck would've recked yours lol! thanks for the video!
Ah memories I played from 02-04. I ran a beatdown deck and all these cards you're showing I had! God I miss those days. I used to love fissure, trap hole, mage power, imperial order, Solomon, axe of despair, united we stand!
Hey man, started following the channel for the old school content. I am 25 and this was the MAIN cookie cutter deck and I am so glad you made a video on it. I want to start up a RUclips channel and do videos just like you. I am going to start getting back into collecting old school cards and if you ever want to do a challenge with old school packs or boxes let me know! I will buy the boxes/packs and challenge you whenever! ;) great channel! love it!
Omg so much nostalgia right here, this was almost my exact deck to a T, would throw in some spear dragons, goblin attack force, had to have magic cylinders and ring of destruction, etc. Yugioh is so damn confusing now compared to what it was back then. Most people had 1 of 3 deck types, low level beat downs with magic/traps to back it up, exodia or destiny board.
"took a lot of thought to build".... you do realize everyone played the exact same 20 cards right? There was no thought process in building decks during this era, it was literally the best generic cards out of the small generic card pool available.
Brings back so many memories haha... Awesome video! I remember me and my mates playing a 2v2 duel and some girls called us up, we just stood them up and continued playing lmao
I’m actually going back to old school. My deck will have forbidden cards in it but since I don’t really enter tournaments anymore it doesn’t matter to me
juggaloian0088 I used to run old school archfiends. Gemini elfs, archfiend soldiers, injection fairy lily, zorc, cyber jar, so many others too. I gotta make an old school deck. I wrote down all the cards I had in it :)
This video sends me immediately to my childhood. I used to spend a lot of hours playing this cards with my friends. I still dont know why they mess this game with all those new rules and type of cards. Old school ones are better definitely.
This was awesome! Thanks man. I played someone at college about a month ago who had a similar deck to this. He had Goblin Attack Force and Elite, as well as some Monarchs though. I felt bad playing my Spellbooks against it. :/
They need to go back to these days, this new shit is to complicated and to many high powered monsters.. thanks for this video man i also have a good old school deck would love to duel sometime
Takes me back. I use to play a pure Spellcaster beatdown deck when Kycoo, Gemini Elf, and Dark Elf were legit with Axe of Despair. Jinzo was a pain in the ass to deal with if I didnt have the Axe to equip to a monster to deal with him.
Oh, Man. I remember going to regionals with a similar deck my opponent went first, I went second. He Yata him and it was the end of the match. This was crazy thanks for posting this. 😃
thank you for explaining the current ban list and the ban list back then, and your views on the reasoning for the ban. gives some nice perspective for a noob :)
I love seeing old decks I like to play the format up to pharaohs servant and when me an my friends play we include cards from Pegasus and Joey starter decks even no they came out post labrinyth of nightmare
Awesome old school beatdown deck man. I had a deck almost identical to this one, except I ran 2 Kycoos, 3 GAFs instead of the Spear Dragons, and a couple of other 1 tribute high attack monsters. Dark Ruler Ha Des was always one of my favorite cards, though I never saw too many other people using it back in the day.
Also played highly competitive back in 03 but a few cards I think you are missing from your list are goblin attack force, swords if revealing light, axe of despair l, and mage power! Some of the cards are subjective and interchangeable though! Thought?
Man this brought back memories. I played up through Pharaonic Guardian back in the day and ran a very similar deck to this but it was more hand destruction focused. God Yugioh was so fun back then. I'm actually in the middle of researching a tcg comeback but I'm torn between playing this new Yugioh or MTG. I'm not sure if I would like the new Yugioh. Just found your channel, great stuff man.
+Brenden Horn cool, glad my channel could spark some nostalgic memories. As much as I love yugioh and even though the current game is still fun, I'd go with MTG because there is more originality and creativity. in yugioh, you see the same 3 decks dominating every format and not much if any difference between decks. MTG is much more diverse and friendly to diversity.
+The Old School Expert Thanks for the input. I guess I just really want to play Yugioh because I have this hope that the game will in the near future not be as you have described, because I've had others tell me basically the same thing. I guess my question would be, do you see the Yugioh tcg becoming more diverse and creative in the future? Thanks
Awesome deck dude I was also an old school duelist and had a good deck until it was stolen now I just have a few cards let as a momento tried to get back cards to make a deck but it's hard to get here thanks for ur videos dude keep it up
question: I have no friends anymore that play yugioh bcuz I quit back in early 2000's so if I go to a local card shop and play , can I play my oldschool cards for fun or is there new rules people take seriously and people just want to duel with newer cards?
Wow I remember running a similar deck, I luckily had 3 Chasers, I remember I had won a tourney and had $50 store credit when Yata first came out and pulled him, great memories!
I was only 7 in 2003, so to me then playing Yugioh was just playing with whatever cards you had with your friends at lunchtime and pretending to know the rules haha. The only time I actually really learned to play the game competitively was when I bought 7 Trials to Glory on the GBA in ‘05, and seeing this profile really brought back memories of playing that game! (The first game I did play was Dark Duel Stories in 2004 but, as you know, did not follow the traditional rules of the game and was completely confusing)
Bro seeing these cards does something to me, like inside, I can't explain it, but I get like really happy, and full of nostalgia, it's a one of a kind feeling. Makes me wish I didn't have adult shit to do on Saturdays, and I can go to my local card shop and there still be over 30 people there, signing up for the Saturday Tournament, and we just play yugioh from noon to 9pm.
I miss the days when I could change of heart my opponent's monster when I was going second then tribute for a Summon Skull, the kids in my elementary and middle school hated when I would do that.
I remember I used to play random decks with different monster types just because I enjoyed the artwork and customization of it. Most people didn't care for field cards except me. It was basic gameplay but some things required strategic playing: I remember playing an adult who work at the main card store. He played his turn wrong, and I just kind of watched him make the mistake until it was my turn. I mentioned what he did wrong and I won the duel that turn. He was like "Awe, your right!" And he shuffled his cards and kind of banged them hard on the table. Lol. I just smirked.
My deck from 2003 was ass. I was young, I didn't know my ass from a hole in the ground and I couldn't afford a lot of the great cards. Was rocking a Malevolent Nuzzler, Magic Drain, Shadow of Eyes and my favorite card (which is still in my deck) the Spirit Reaper!
Man I used to play when all these cards were unbanned, and still have most cards that you showed, you are right yugioh was at its prime back then, it was so much fun, I stopped playing and after a few years I saw so many new kind of booster packs that I just didn't feel to catch up, hopefully a new trading card game will appear!
Few days ago I bought a Ritual Deck 'cause I thought It would be fun playing against my old-school-decks. Totally broken, in 1 turn I summon 3 boss monsters. Yugioh right now it's not about strategy... or creativity, it's about how much money you are going to spend. I used to play a Burn Deck, won three local tournaments, defeating decks like the one in the video. Right now that's impossible.
Yugioh was so much fun back then :( it's so different now. Nice deck profile, lots of people were running ones nearly identical to this including myself.
Gotta like ur video. I had the same deck. Basically those were the peak cards of the era. I had dark ruler of ha des. It counters of those flip effects and nobleman crossouts
i had every card you showed in my deck back in the day. no wonder I dominated in my neighborhood. Never competed just played and traded with friends back in 02-04 when i was in 8th grade. Good times without the need for internet haha
Man this takes me back, old school Yu-Gi-Oh in my opinion was a lot more fun to play.
yeah it was
Nah, overly complicated summoning conditions are more fun than just playing with simple rules.
Obvious sarcasm.
If negateing wouldnt be a thing yugioh would be much better... I only play GOAT beacuse i dont want to see that bs Ash Blossom ever again.
It is.
Yes, old-school YGO is so fun! I created my channel to remind people of it!
So many memories. Please, turn back time :(
Time roulette go!
Stop complaining about the past nostalgia is good but you make it seem like we have it bad now.
that's cuz you do. lol the game sucks now. stop lying to yourself.
Pendulum killed the game for me.
I know its 2019 but I hope more people will become interested in classic yugioh tournaments and for fun play.
Same as fuck.
from 2003 to 2005 was when yugioh was most competitive along with being the most creative. i miss those days man. it was soooo much fun. it's fun now but its all about archetypes and no individuality in the competitive field because the cards that can make it possible are splashable and get banned for that
Yea the meta decks completely ruin what Yugioh use to be.
***** Konami completely ruined what yugioh used to be
david parrish What happned to creativity. Now its just "This new deck is op. Now this new deck is op. Now THIS new deck is Op." ugh.
I know man. At least my locals we have creative players
I loved yugioh back then because you could play the types you liked. There werent two types of decks that were broken per format before it got hit by the ban list. Lol i used to play a pure machine deck that would actually top every once in a whille. Haha i actually played machine king and jinzo as my boss mosters. I love old age yugioh.,
Yugioh used to be such a simple game
Yes
i bought old school starter decks to learn how to play and man its really simple. its when i started seeing XYZ and Synchro stuff that i was like damn how do i do this.
What is old can always be restored, let's make a stand to have these cards playable again in every version and format of yugioh.
Yea...
In fact, you actually *can* play old-school YGO if you want to, thanks to the Power of Chaos trilogy Konami released in 2003/2004 for PC! I created my channel to show people how good this trilogy is!
Rageiki was a boss card on those days. Never got around to owning one
had a friend that made me take it out because he never owned one and it went on the ban list pretty early. He never mentioned monster reborn though. Funny how young minds work.
Kevin Hinojosa
Kevin Hinojosa so funny when you cheese then with Anti-Raigeki
Same here. I never had Raigeki back then but I wanted one badly. Even today I still don't have one. I didn't have Mirror Force back then either. I have a bunch of those now though thanks to the releases of all these legendary collections.
It’s super cheap now
YESSSSSS, I was in 8th grade and this is my DECK! This is exactly what I ran with in 2003. I to believe it is when yugioh was at it's best in terms of fun and popularity. I Had exatcly the same deck dude. Oh my god what a time that was..Now we are 30 years old and all those good years is just a memory. Feels sad
I miss the old days when I could duel without worrying about the synchro and xyz cards.
I hate decks now days, it's all about archetypes. It takes all creativity out of making the decks. I miss the days where you would have to figure out what cards would combo together

Still love jinzo!
its jizzno! not jinzo
+aaronluce15 joke, or serious? it is Jinzo though.
I'm still looking to pull a jinzo :( i do have a jinzo jector though, its just not the same
UberCrit its a simply unlucky joke
Who didn’t?!
This brought me back, I had every single of these cards at least 1 copy lol.
I love the old days of yugioh. I'm actually in the process of making a old school deck. I'll probably use stuff like the fang of critias or the fossil fusion monsters but that's cause they were in the original and gx series
Dang, I miss my childhood so much. Old school Yugioh all the way! Nice deck. :D
kids who grew up with synchros/xyzs can fool themselves all they want but one cant really argue how they butchered this game
This deck's beautiful TT.TT
Andrew Hunter thank you!
The Old School Expert ithink thats the cooles Deck ive Eber Seen but i Would add my favorite card the blue eyes

Everyone have the same cards back then. I love being old school. I stopped playing it after the first series ended.
I agree that the game had peaked at the time of this deck. The power creep KoMONEY introduced to sell their latest sets ruined this game completely.
I used airknight and kycoo in my control deck in 06-07. Kycoo was extremely effective at preventing bls nonsense. Tsukuyomi made airknight pretty useful too.

Brings back so many memories haha... Awesome video! I remember me and my mates playing a 2v2 duel and some girls called us up, we just stood them up and continued playing lmao
My favorite era I’ve played since the beginning, seeing these old cards brings back so many amazing memories
I’m actually going back to old school. My deck will have forbidden cards in it but since I don’t really enter tournaments anymore it doesn’t matter to me
so many good memories with these cards.. I love the old school cards the best
I come back and watch this every couple years lol
I really miss old school yugioh..
Really Awesome deck man. I've Been anticipating this for so long and you defiantly delivered. We need to duel some time!!
Thank you for this blast from the past! I quit around 2007, but I miss the game. All these tuners and whatnot are so confusing
This video made me nostalgia so hard i love this channel
Such a beautiful deck :') I miss the old school
Joey Whitley me too :(
juggaloian0088 I used to run old school archfiends. Gemini elfs, archfiend soldiers, injection fairy lily, zorc, cyber jar, so many others too. I gotta make an old school deck. I wrote down all the cards I had in it :)
juggaloian0088 loved my gate guardian deck back in 2002.... hahaha, it was a beast....
This video sends me immediately to my childhood. I used to spend a lot of hours playing this cards with my friends. I still dont know why they mess this game with all those new rules and type of cards. Old school ones are better definitely.
It was huge back when i was in elementary school same with bayblade.
I love this video and I think it would be really cool if you posted another old school deck maybe from a different format?
These videos take me back. Thank you
This was awesome! Thanks man.
I played someone at college about a month ago who had a similar deck to this. He had Goblin Attack Force and Elite, as well as some Monarchs though. I felt bad playing my Spellbooks against it. :/
sonictornado1227
I guess you made him quit yugioh to never go back.
They need to go back to these days, this new shit is to complicated and to many high powered monsters.. thanks for this video man i also have a good old school deck would love to duel sometime
The memories of Jinzo 😢 only one kid at my primary school had him and when I got one he thought I stole his because it was so rare

Man, seeing this video gave me massive nostalgia. I played a deck very similar to this right before i stopped playing.
I started dueling in the synchro era but i dueled with decks like yours... i love how the old school decks are funner than the crazy new stuff...
this is the old yugioh i miss and still play with my brother. i wanna duel u tho
OHHHHH THE DAYS OF PROPRIETY when you mentioned it with exiled force you reminded me of something i hadnt thought of in yugioh for years
Awesome old school beatdown deck man.
This brings back soooo many memories of my childhood
i like how all of your cards are from booster packs. Back in the days kids from my hood struggled to find some good commons from structure decks.
Brings back memories. I think I had a similar deck except I had some goblin attack force
"The ultra disgusting Imperial Order" - juggaloian0088. The hatred is real.
Also played highly competitive back in 03 but a few cards I think you are missing from your list are goblin attack force, swords if revealing light, axe of despair l, and mage power! Some of the cards are subjective and interchangeable though! Thought?
Ran a cyber jar in that deck too. A beautiful ultimate rare cyber jar, just making it even saltier lol
Doesn't Yata Garasu make your opponent skip their draw phase not battle phase?
Yes
It does skip the opponent's next coming draw phase, not their next coming battle phase
Yeah. Gotta love the good ol classic yata lock
Usually it was played the turn after you nuked the field with chaos emperor dragon
A nostalgic trip indeed! Very nice! :) And Raigeki came off the ban list after all this time!
Thanks
Awesome deck dude I was also an old school duelist and had a good deck until it was stolen now I just have a few cards let as a momento tried to get back cards to make a deck but it's hard to get here thanks for ur videos dude keep it up
Great nostalgic video man thx for sharing
question: I have no friends anymore that play yugioh bcuz I quit back in early 2000's so if I go to a local card shop and play , can I play my oldschool cards for fun or is there new rules people take seriously and people just want to duel with newer cards?
Wow I remember running a similar deck, I luckily had 3 Chasers, I remember I had won a tourney and had $50 store credit when Yata first came out and pulled him, great memories!
How I missed the good old beat-down deck, I miss it so much! :(
I was only 7 in 2003, so to me then playing Yugioh was just playing with whatever cards you had with your friends at lunchtime and pretending to know the rules haha.
This deck is actually good on a Minecraft server called Yu-craft which is currently 2003 style this helped alot! Thank you!
I miss the days when I could change of heart my opponent's monster when I was going second then tribute for a Summon Skull, the kids in my elementary and middle school hated when I would do that.
idk why i was looking for early 2000 yugioh decks on youtube but cool video
I remember I used to play random decks with different monster types just because I enjoyed the artwork and customization of it. Most people didn't care for field cards except me.
It was basic gameplay but some things required strategic playing: I remember playing an adult who work at the main card store. He played his turn wrong, and I just kind of watched him make the mistake until it was my turn. I mentioned what he did wrong and I won the duel that turn. He was like "Awe, your right!" And he shuffled his cards and kind of banged them hard on the table. Lol. I just smirked.
I miss those days old school dueling i remember i won a tournament with my dragon deck good days.
my deck is straight up old school cards to, the original series was my favorite. :)
I agree with that guy. The new generation sucks. The first generation was a lot of fun.
Once the brand went to GX or 5Ds I quit. Coming back to the game like 13 years later I'm like what the hell is this shit lmfaooo
Awesome! This is the YuGiOh I remember. And I had those Same Blue sleeves lol
What no Mirror Force? Harpeys Feather Duster, or even a Goblin, and Breaker, Magic Warrioror, and Bazoo The Soul Eater?
There is a Mirror Force in this deck.
Just found my deck from 12 years ago. So many memories
Thanks for sharing this looks so fun
I'm so jealous...congrats on your collection.
"One disgusting, nasty Cyber Jar" - juggaloian0088
Good old Yata-lock, Slayed ol' many nerds with that. My personally favorite card won me a regionals. Also weird that you didn't run a Ring
me and my friends play with the new stuff but we also have old school decks that we play with and they are a lot of fun, defo cool to see this!
I used eye of truth, snatch steal, dark room of nightmare and bad reaction of simochi ALL the time, so good
Gotta like ur video. I had the same deck. Basically those were the peak cards of the era. I had dark ruler of ha des. It counters of those flip effects and nobleman crossouts
Its insane how good jinzo still is..!!!!!
i had every card you showed in my deck back in the day. no wonder I dominated in my neighborhood. Never competed just played and traded with friends back in 02-04 when i was in 8th grade. Good times without the need for internet haha
I think torrential tribute was my favorite card. So powerful in its day.
Fuck man... nostalgia hit me like a train
