Valid points. The only time I shoot in 4k is if I know I need to to an post crop(edited pan or zoom) but every other situation its 1080p

Agreed, that or if its' for a big client or high end project I want that extra file size and data!

@@Soupcan13 Agreed, gotta look at it project by project I just know from my experience in the industry there's a ton of work that it's just unnecessary to use 4k if it's only gonna sit on social media.

I’m already use to 4K but you have all good points there! Thanks for your input on it!

Thanks man something to consider because there's a ton of commercial work and branding work out there that is solely intended for social media so it's seriously kinda pointless to shoot it in 4k in my opinion.

Well maybe depends on the camera. You wont have these huge files from 4k on other cameras. 1080 on a sony for example its horrid and its not because of resolution but of compression and internal scaledown process. Canon has a trademark color science (not the best but familiar and good skintones), but the technology its weird.
In cinema cameras you might wanna be shooting on the native resolution of the camera. My cameras (blackmagic) shoot 4k natively and it uses the full sensor and its amazing, the 1080 its pretty bad on these, so thats not a good option. These shoot prores which is a super light file to handle, its bigger file size but it runs smoother on the computer because of compression.
I dont think anyone should work in a delivery format, but in a good acquisition format and low compression like prores or compressed raw. Also files break quicker in the grade with high compression ratios and because they are usually delivery codecs and not acquisition one.
After 1080 resolution does not really matter, what matters is the sensor, the compression ratio, the codec used, and the native resolution of the video. 1080 on a natively 1080 is better, and a 4k file on a 4k native file its also the best option.

Also, story is always king, lighting, set, directions and lenses above resolution always, but knowing the sensor, the codex and the camera will make all of those things work better together.

@@CarlosPerezFilmswell damn you went into detail that's a long ass comment but glad you're so interested in the topic and conversation. I totally agree, story is key and then lighting above all else if you can't light then it's gonna be trash regardless of your camera and settings and definitely every camera is different, I guess I could've elaborated that is more specifically towards DSLR bodies, not cinema, if you can use pro res that's always a huge plus, the workflow, and rendering is a lot faster with 4k files, that's what I do almost every time. I've just found from my personal experience in using Canon and Fuji to be tough and time-consuming. I can't speak on black magic but I hear ya, when it come sot Lumix GH5s it makes more sense to just shoot it in 4k natively especially since it's a crop factored sensor as well. And thanks so much man, glad your digging the channel we definitely gotta link sometime soon!

    Cons
    1) file size
    2) editing
    3) story is king
    4) most people don't see the difference
    pros
    1) if you're used to the filmmaking process
    2) if clients need the higher quality
basically -> aim for best content and overall look, 4K can get in the way and it shouldn't
PS : I won't put up with terrible audio, sorry 'bout that :)
