    When I meditate on this shloka, I picture a wave rising and falling again. This (the flat water) is ocean. This (the wave rising out of it) is ocean. Out of the ocean, the ocean manifests. When ocean is taken away from ocean (when the wave falls back down), only ocean remains. This is my favorite morning meditation, a wave rising and falling, over and over again.

  • @swamymatam

    Other example to understand this with analogy of glass of water and Ocean.
    When we add glass full of water(which is full in itself) to ocean(other fullness), fullness of ocean remains same.
    Similarly, if you remove glass full of water from ocean, ocean still remains full.
    Ocean represents Brahman and Glass represents a normal human being.

    You can replace zero with infinity and the meaning or equation still holds true. You take away infinity from the infinite and it is the infinity that remains. Probably, once again this shows that nothing and everything are just two sides of the same coin.

    • @jamesam003
      @jamesam003 5 лет назад +11

      Yes! I pursue math and have wondered the same thing many times! Zero and infinity are similar in so many ways

    • @paadipanta2607
      @paadipanta2607 5 лет назад +18

      Not really, zero is the unmanifested energy and it is beyond one's imagination where is the infinity is the manifested energy which is limitless yet the product of unmanifested. So philosophically zero is bigger than infinity.

    • @jamesam003
      @jamesam003 5 лет назад +7

      Depends on one's way of looking at it. Since we haven't yet been able to absolutely define zero or infinity, everyone is entitled to their opinion on the subject, whether philosophical or mathematical.

    • @paadipanta2607
      @paadipanta2607 5 лет назад +3

      @@jamesam003 Well, this video is a philosophical one. Mathematically if you write zero in place of Infinity, they fail you.

    • @jamesam003
      @jamesam003 5 лет назад +14

      Well he does talk about mathematics too. Nowhere it is stated that's its a strictly philosophical video. Also, we call it the "science" of mantras. You cannot isolate maths, science from philosophy when talking about ancient Indian scriptures. They are all beautifully interwoven. Math and philosophy are deeply interconnected. Zero itself is a deeply "philosophical" concept. Not just another number. In schools, ofcourse they fail you if you replace zero with infinity, as most of our teachers lack insight and imagination. And the education system has no room for creative, philosophical thought. It is rigid and wants you to arrive at predetermined answers to train you to fit into the system.
      By the way, the highest educational degree in mathematics is PhD. Doctor of "philosophy". Not of mathematics. Turns out, mathematics and philosophy are not isolated subjects after all😊

    It is amazing to see our ancestors knew so many concepts of what is now called modern mathematics. This beautiful shloka has several insights into abstract algebra and set theory. For example in addition to the 0 - 0 = 0 identity you showed, the same identity holds for infinity - infinity = infinity, both being the roots of the equation x -x = x . Thus they appropriately called it "Purnam" or something which is complete and encompasses everything in addition to "Shunyam" which is empty.
    Thanks for sharing this, loving the content on this channel!

      What said that x-x = x is wrong interpretation.
      Why?
      Because x is still something, not nothingness.
      When we subtract something from something, something remains.
      x-y=z is correct.

      I guess he is only trying to impart the citadel of knowledge about the most holiest language of all - samuskrutham. Because it is a holy language connected to spiritualism, people like uday shreyas (the person explaining) do not try and campaign for it as the social media is nothing but views, opinions and campaigning of certain practice and ideologies.
