- Beserk Anime, Guts and Griffith Vs ZODD the immortal, one of the greatest Anime fights ever!
At first zod looks like hulk but than he gets stabbed under the armpit and he turns into a kick-ass INMORTAL(HENCE THE NAME) GOD THAT LOOKS LIKE SATAN!! - Кино
The best thing about this fight is that, before this happened, people weren't really aware that anything supernatural existed. It was just a normal, 'realistic' medieval world. And then this fucker shows up and Guts still fights him.
Benjamin Drinkwater Ammmmmm actually, no. Both Anime and manga established with its first chapter that we're in the world of Dark Fantasy, not just in the medieval period. In the manga it was even pronounced that Grifith is our main villain. Snake baron is the first ark for both.
+Psih Opat Monsters like Zodd and Wyald are supposed to be very rare before the Eclipse. Your average joe merc would have only seen human soldiers in his lifetime.
I think you misunderstood the comment, he's talking about the characters in the manga, not the readers. The golden age was the earliest point in the timeline of the story
Kinda makes this come off differently having this perspective, comes off a lot more intelligent instead of shitty voice actors performing bad lines.
I will still able to suspend disbelief, even with Zodd! It's later on in the manga, when Schiercke the loli witch shows up, that I lost it.
The funny thing is that guts encountered one of the strongest apostles for his first apostle fight..
Shakir Johnson the only stronger Apostle was Ganishka basically because he experimented with magic and other things to make him so powerful
Celtic Viking no way Grunbeld could be as strong as Zodd. During the war against the other Apostles, Zodd destroyed way more than Grunbeld and tore apart much bigger Apostles than him with ease while Grunbeld cleaned up with his fire breath. Also Zodd took hits from Ganishka several times without dying or being fatigued.
Grunbeld may be a good contender for third strongest Apostle however all of the other ones are powerful and greatly skilled it would be difficult to see how well they perform but Zodd most likely took on the other Apostles to prove he is the best since he doesn’t back down from a challenge from anyone who crosses him as he tried to take on Griffith when he was rebirthed into the mortal realm, which shows if any astral being crosses him he will immediately challenge them to prove who is best. Most likely he came across the others as he goes where battles are held and they too stay in battles
@@c.galindo9639 I agree with Ganishka likely being the strongest apostle outside of the God Hand, but I don't think its ever been explicitly stated that Zodd was the most powerful apostle in the Neo band of the hawk. I have a feeling that Locus is actually pretty powerful.
Julian Beatty no Apostle is scaled in power but I do believe Zodd would be the best since he has the biggest reputation and has shown the best feats against the other Apostles that went against Griffith.
All of the other warrior Apostles have big reputations but that’s between themselves and not through wide tales especially spanning hundreds of years like Zodd.
Makes you wonder what Zodd did to become such a monster. I hope they never tell us.
Wow, Griffith is such a great guy, I'd trust him with my life
I hope u dont have a girlfriend cuz wow ...
owtraged You don't know how funny that is. Have fun during the Eclipse...
haha lel
my god dont
....
Hahaha funny you mention that.....
"His strength is not human"
Does he LOOK human to you???
The Arbiter this is a world where guts doesn’t know that Demons exist. Bozuso was a HUGE dude, it could have been possible that Zodd was a huge deformed dude too.
Considering he didn’t transform when Guts was thinking that.
Yes Zodd looks human although with menacing red eyes
@@c.galindo9639 and caramel skin colour and shark like teeth.
Killerpro 69 Guts has the same skin color as him so not a big deal and there are people that sharpen their teeth to look menacing or because of their culture. The only thing that can’t make him close to human is his completely red eyes with no pupils
@@c.galindo9639 his nose is anatomically different to a point where he could only have deformities, his color is too unnatural for a healthy human, his teeth are not only sharp, but really large, his eyes don't need description, Guts is 2m (6'6") yet Zodd is yet taller and has much more muscle mass than humanly possible, you can call him humanoid, hardly a man
What is it about older anime's that help deliver such an ominous vibe? This scene always leaves my nerves on edge.
Bryan deym 90s gore works wonders 💥
Bryan 90’s cel animation
Nationalist Weeb, actually, I've noticed most anime post 2000 tend to have less detail because they're more computer generated, where as older animes are drawn and just like the mangas, tend to have more detail.
I suppose one example could be the original DBZ compared to Kai compared to Dragon Ball Super, because that spans what, 20-30 years?
Just like how multi tracking makes artists worse musicians, CGI make artists lazier. They just cant transfer the tense feeling as well
They knew how to animate back then.
I like how Griffith orders a retreat riiiiiiiight after having his men slaughtered.
Dem tactics.
SlyBiffrons I like how you talk about giving orders quickly when you'd have shit your pants and died in the same situation.
Valken My first response would be to retreat in the first place.
+Valken in sly's defence griffith did send guts of all people on an assasination mission......never ask for a hammer when you need a scalple.....
*men get slaughtered by Zodd* Griffith: I thought I told you fuckers to retreat!
hmmm what? Weren't only some of them sill alive when he told them to retreat actually? And isn't it the exact fucking point of a retreat anyway? Most of the men are slaughtered, you realize it's hopeless, so you order the rest to retreat. Rather than making the whole gang retreat right away and defy all logic
it is so strange actually seeing fear in guts' eyes
Jacob Simpson the only time seeing guts looking like he made the biggest mistake of his life
Its his first time he see a demon.
He's never seen a demon before.
I would be scared 2
Fear? No no no... thats absolute terror XD
There is only so much a human brain can deal with at a time.
Loved how Guts was scared at first when he saw Zodd and how he didn’t have normal eyes but as soon as he saw his fallen comrades on his sword, he just goes into a straight rage charge.
His warrior's instinct and duty as captain raider weighs more than his fear of the supernatural. In the manga, Miura clearly drew his eyes in a blind fit of rage as he charged at the direction of Zodd. Indicating no hesitation in the heat of the battle, as what he learned from Gambino at a very young age.
than gets owned
the scariest part of the scene is that is has no background music
It does . It's just your hearing or speakers aren't very good .
How can u not hear it?
Its very faint, but it's not overly dramatic music.
you gave a wonderfull idea...

I personally hear this during this scene...

BDL30 for real lol
Scott Smahon you fool this isnt even my final form
Can we appreciate the awesome voice acting on Zodd's character. I mean thats just some peer effort right there.
Daniel I would kill to have a voice like Zodd’s human form. Imagine walking into a room and just saying “hello everyone” with that thick groveled monstrosity of a voice and watch your peers just straight up cower into a corner. Lol
Lorenzo Coy-Galindo I would like to have that voice too
Lorenzo Coy-Galindo calm down pin head
I watched it with original audio and not to be that guy but both of Zodd's voice didn't disappoint me.
His and Void's dub voices are the best. I wish more dubs were like that
Zodd was the first opponent to make Guts' blood as cold as ice with the fear of death.
His first demon after all
How this fight ends?
Since Guts is so used to fighting humans his natural reaction to something like Zodd wouldn’t be anything less than what he showed there. Even Griffith was in shock and he doesn’t flinch in the most dangerous situations.
@@bernardoheusi6146 watch it bro
Bernardo Heusi well, zodd wipes the floor with guts and griffith, obviously, but when noticing that griffith wears the red behelit around his neck, he makes a comment about how their fates are already set, and leaves
(also just watch it it's good)
90% of the time, they just colored in a frame from the manga and panned around it.
Still looks better than most modern anime.
Because the manga is berserk lol
Exactly. People don't realize how much of a masterpiece this is. That element of surprise when the anime goes from realistic to fantasy. This scene which needed no music at all, just the horror and twitchy sounds of this creature. The fact that Guts, despite being the ultimate badass, feels fear.
Why can't modern anime create these types of moments and atmospheres like Berserk did? I feel like EVERY anime these days is the same - it's about some short loser beta who sucks at everything yet somehow manages to get all the hot girls. The plot is always so predictable and boring and the characters are so weak.
Miss having badass characters like this.
For berserk it works. Berserk îs less about flashy animations and vibrant movements and more about stale and picturesque images that feel as powerful and vibrant as normal animation. I know it's because this anime had a very right budget that they couldn't animate as much, but for a manga series as berserk, this adaptation, with all its limited animation and stale shots, fits the aesthetic of berserk perfectly.
Guts: barely able to fight
Zodd: transforms and becomes even stronger
Guts: stands absolutely no chance

It's not hard to do something better than 2016 Badserk
The moment Berserk went from a medieval anime to demonic anime.
Shit went from 100 to 1,000,000,000,000,000 Real Fast.
Seriously this is so much better than the 2016 Berserk I have to watch the 1997 version all over again just to cleanse my mind
Given how hand-drawn animation is non-existent, complete with Berserk's heavily-detailed designs, and then you have fans who wanted to revive the show in the 2010's with only use of animation being digital animation, you know Berserk 2016 was doomed from the start...
It couldn't also save Berserk from being a meme.
Aldo Apache Well, if animation is drawn on paper today, I be happy...
It’s just that everything’s all digital animation.
Aldo Apache Maybe, but CGI in Japan can wow people Appleseed, yet no one talks about it...
@Aldo Apache Well, considering all studios are now digital, and Kentaro Miura's (Berserk's creator) work is heavily detailed to the brim that makes it impossible to be animated, then I don't know the future of the franchise...!
how about you go read the manga you idiot

I really prefer this Zodd.. He looks like a Bloodthirster.
He does! Or a Baron of hell from doom.
Which is funny, since Zodd is basically a Khornate in all but name.
thats true... hmmmm, still hoping to see more of him in later chapters :)

Guts expression when Zodd changes is the same face Dark Souls players make when they meet the taurus Demon in Dark Souls..

Fiend Matador Slayer of a Thousand Noobs
Yes it does they look similar
Fiend Matador Slayer of a Thousand Noobs The Dark Souls series is heavily inspired from Berserk, so it makes sense.
But the Taurus Demon was a little bitch. Zodd would eat his hide for breakfast.
Fiend Matador Slayer of a Thousand Noobs or any Souls boss.
Not the Taurus Demon, the Capra Demon with his doggos

@D Moll Yes, that's why I said both haven't been at it on their 2nd forms. We haven't yet seen Berserker Armor Guts vs Apostle Zodd. It's too early to say Guts could get his ass handled to him by Zodd while non Berserker Armor Guts could hold himself well enough against human Zodd, and that's without even using firearms like his crossbow or cannon.
The thing I love the most about this scene is the look of fear that Guts has. At no other point in the show does Guts have that look, even when facing other monsters. It really adds impact to the scene.

this is probably my favorite moment from berserk excluding the manga. the feeling of utter despair and horror is so well captured. its constantly emphasized how its impossible for such a beast to exist in the real world and it really puts you in their shoes because what the hell do you do in such a situation but cowar in fear and fold under the pressure. truly a masterpiece

*gets his sword cleaved in two*
“Oh good heavens!”
Zodd: *Looks down* You stabbed me
I really like the eerie silence in this fight. It really added to the atmosphere and the horror of the situation.
The way this scene is directed, the pacing, the artwork, the sound design, the voice acting, everything here is just perfect. With a shoestring budget, OLM made a classic truly worthy of the source material.
"this is the first time... that I've been so deeply... gored by the sword of a human! Throughout my three hundred years of slaughtering, you are the first one who has wounded me like this!
Now this is getting exciting! You've made my blood boil as it has not boiled in many years. To feel like this was again, to reach an opponent like you... for the past three hundred years, I've lived for this! Now fight with me - you must not let me down!
What you're doing? Giving up?! Is this the liberty of strength? IS THAT IT!?
Well... I suppose you've done arguably for a human... but if you cannot fight anymore,
I WILL TEAR YOU - LIMB FROM LIMB, ROAR!
Inexcusable! I will forgive no one who interrupts our fight!
Where are you going? I can still hear your heartbeat... fight on! You must fight until your body is torn appart!
What a glorious battle this has been... amazing! I found two men who were able to wound me. Oh what a shame, I have to destroy them both at once."
Is that the limit of your strength * not liberty and *admirably for a human* not arguably.
I love how they left guts, this immensely badass guy who cleaved countless dudes to bits, the humanity of feeling real fear at something he doesn‘t understand and that feels almost unbeatable, that way this fight and guts still standing and pushing through feels so much more meaningful and intense.
Always loved the line ‘when this man’s ambition crumbles’, dunno why but it’s just very fitting and ominous
Zodd been a bad kitty
I love the relationship between these two in the manga, it literally devolves into "It's not like I like you or anything, Baka!"
with the strength of a human men and he still couldn't beat Zodd, that's how strong Zodd is and the fact that Guts was able to survive was an insane feat
also side note I feel like Zodd could've been an inspiration for the battle hungry battle beast from invincible something I just thought of. It's really cool seeing parallels from different forms of media whether its other anime, video games, cartoons, etc.
I love that Zodd is literally the Taurus Demon from Dark Souls.
It's because dark souls is inspired from berserk.
@@suyogdevaiah1114 I know! Should’ve worded it in reverse. I love that Miyazaki incorporated/was influenced so much by Berserk.
Rest in peace to Professor Miura
The Beast Swordsman Vs The Black Swordsman
I like how there's no music playing at beginning of the battle. Just gives Zodd a more mystery vibe before you see his actual, horrifying, and monstrous form.
Griffith is the only one not fazed by the fact that a literal demon is standing in front of him
They captured the essence of the Guts manga so well with this adaptation, it’s a shame no other studio has done the same
@リカ ふだんな no one likes those ones cuz they're 3D animated n dats it
@リカ ふだんな I think it was alright.
I guess Guts forgot to KNEEL BEFORE ZODD!!!!! LOL, yeah just couldn't help myself there...
XD
I absolutely adore this dub of Zodd.
Fun fact: Zodd uses a sword called a ram dao. It's not a weapon but instead is used to behead sacrificial animals in a single strike.
Miura was very clever with this choice.
It's a kushan broad horse sword.
@@edntz They're the same thing.
Only int the 2017 anime, here it's an oversized falx
What gets me about this scene every time is the way Griffith's soldiers just run straight to their own deaths after Griffith told them to get out of there... they know they have no chance but they don't care if he's in harm's way.
When you give it your all to beat the boss but then he transitions to a second phase with a _bigger_ health bar
Berserk fans watching the 2016 anime: 7:07-7:12
This was such a great way for kentaro to introduce the supernatural world of berserk. Uo until this point we were all under the assumption that this was just some story about a semi regular world reminiscent of our own during this time period and then 'boom' zodd shows up, uses his apostle form and both us and guts are left like "what the hell is going on!". At least for those of us who read the golden age before the black swordsman arc that is.
Griffith used to be such a good guy. I understand the story, but if only!!!
Back when Griffith actually cared for his people.
Griff: no homo actually :*
Common makes zero sense.
Golden days of Berserk. When author was very motivated and regularly scheduled monthly release for manga.
"If you think this man your friend, then know this. When you regard one another as brothers and this man?s ambition crumbles, it is your destiny to face your death. You can not escape, it is your fate."
its been 12 years, are you still there?
Dude this artwork is fucking amazing so much emotion.
Imagine having such a strong aura that you could make guts shake by merely complimenting him
Now this version of animation is far better than the rest..👌
Thanks for the upload!👏✌
Guts: 'It's a monster.'
Zodd: 'Hey, I'm right here. That was rude.'
Love this 90s anime style.
Interestingly the same animation company that made Berserk 1997 was the same company that made the earlier seasons of the Pokemon Anime
yep
This fight is the point where Berserk went from a slightly dark story about a band of mercenaries on their way to glory to a Lovecraftian, nihilistic story about a broken man seeking revenge by slaying demons from other plains of reality.
this is first time 100 manslayer get terrified.
but later, he want to soloing God Hand.
does anybody see it as great foreshadowing at 2:40 guts with his right eye closed, saying its a monster or is it just me?
The moment zodd transform is when shit got to real.
This is like the only time Guts is truly afraid. Made Zod feel 10x more terrifying.
Ive noticed at a old age. That Zodds blade is a Dacien Falx sword replica. RIP Kentaro Miura.
The ATMOSPHERE with a few panning or shaking shots of still frames, or single animated characters, blows 90% of anime out of the water
