@@ertugrulkorpinar51 That title still belongs to the Warriors
@@ertugrulkorpinar51 It's not like he missed a granted winner, it was an unforced error on a very deep return and a passing shot by Djokovic. Surely Federer fucked it up by not delivering a first serve, but Djokovic deserves some credit as well.
Ertugrul Körpinar Atlanta falcons losing the Super Bowl is bigger but ya that Wimbledon was a pretty big choke.
As a Rafa fan I must say i find Roger's tennis to be a supreme art. The most gifted tennis player ever. What a joy to watch man.
Agreed. Nadal the animal, Novak the robot, Federer the ballet dancer haha. 3 goats at this point.
Seconded
Thirded
Agreed. I'm a rafa fan, and while I love him the most I definitely agree Federer plays very beautifully
True, die hard Rafa fan but I ❤️ Federer. We were blessed to witness some history in our lifetimes
As Djokovic said after the match: "He played the perfect match.'"
He did 👍
He might not end up with the most Slams but when the reckoning comes no one has ever played the game in such a awesome looking way. Tennis perfection.
100%.
He is the tennis blueprint for generations to come. 200 years from now newer tennis players will continue studying his game, just like Kung Fu masters still emulate martial techniques that were crafted centuries ago. Just like King Fu, his tennis doesn't require you to be the strongest or most powerful.
Absolutely. Federer is Federer. Aggressive players always are slightly vulnerable because of the narrow margin of error. Federer also never ran after the ball relatively

He is the GREATEST tennis player to ever play the game. No disrespect to Nadal of Djokovic and any others. He just is.

That's an epic comment xDDD
4 aces... AGAINST DJOKAVIC!! No matter who surpasses his titles, he will forever be the goat in my eyes..the most beautiful tennis style to ever grace the courts!
If that’s not enough, keep in mind he had already done that against SAMPRAS
tbh Djoker got his racket on the 2nd one
@@erichaynes7502 he didn't you can watch it in slow motion the ball completely goes past his racquet, the ball was just too quick, honestly I am surprised it was only 200 km/h.
He'll still be the goat even if 2 players have more titles than him? How are you working that one out?
@@mkenne14 pretty sure the talent pool in todays game isn’t near what it was back then. If you were to break down each of these players to find out who was the best in their prime. Roger takes it
As a complete amateur what fascinates me the most about him is his ability to start moving to where he needs to be directly after hitting the ball, since he already roughly knows the only few options his opponent can play it back to and that’s why he doesn’t have to run like a maniac and looks super chill.
that's not an amateur analysis though, really on point and catches perfectly Roger's greatness
This is great analysis actually. In table tennis, Jan Ove Waldner had a similar kind of uncanny ability. Just poetry to watch
@@jackko90MI testing something out
I swear. Scared the shit out of me but was so mesmerizing to watch. I might as well restart my coaching

But that kind of tennis only works on fast courts, and fast courts (except grass) aren't good for the health of the players, at long term.

Prime Federer was just masterful. His backhand is a thing of beauty just pure awesomeness.
This is far from his prime lol
His prime was around 2007, so you're a little off. Your statement is right though, if you didn't mean that this performance was his prime.
@@sasook He looked prime to me lol didnt know this was 2014 man time flies.
And his forehand likes a bullet from a AK47
His backhand was weak in his “prime” (the weak era). It is much better here.
Seeing this after a while of not seeing Roger really strikes hard that we don't see this tennis anymore, this tennis that I once thought standard, the tennis that so charmingly attracted my attention. It is with a really heavy heart that we are soon saying goodbye to it. Roger Federer hasn't been just a player. He's been a type of tennis that no one seems able to recreate anymore. That is Roger Federer.
Retired today.
As someone new to tennis can you explain why this style of tennis is dying out? Thanks.
@@Garrett1240 The degree of technical finesse, ability to move around the court in a way that doesn't seem like desperate spartan like chasing after everything, ingenuity and ability to place the ball nearly anywhere on the court and inventiveness to throw other world class players for a loop, Federer is sublime. Only one i've seen play a technically beautiful game is Alcaraz, but he runs hard after the ball. Still young though, perhaps his game will elevate.
@@elforeign Slow courts is another big reason.
Absolutely agree with your assessment. Let me add that there are good and great and champion players but Federer is in a different class by himself. It is the quality of his shots, his movements, his daring game style and the preternatural talent that guides him in all he does. He is one of those who come along once in a great while, if at all.

I'm not into tennis but seeing Federer play is just amazing, you don't need to know much about tennis to see how great and legendary he is
He transcends the game.
federer one handed backhand is elegant
@@fredlacroix6865 His style of play is elegant no matter what shot he hits. When you see replays of his shots in slow motion it's poetry in motion.
Not a single bit of wasted motion in his shots. Mechanically speaking, he's as solid as they'll ever come.
Exactly, I got to see him play 6 times in person, and he's the only player that would leave you thinking what did I see! I teared up a few times it was so sic. The only athlete I've seen in person (emphasize in person) who did the same thing on a consistent basis was Joe Burrow at LSU. They just did things that were unreal for their sports. My new hope is with Alcaraz and Sinner
pretty aggressive tennis, to make djokovic rushed is quite a task
sultanabran1 watch carefully and you’ll notice that Novak isn’t playing deep so allowing any decent opponents to attack. Whenever Novak is playing well balls land close to the lines a lot more
@@sebbytennis4298 The reason that Novak couldn't play deep is because Roger made him to. Roger is so good at hitting on the rise! By taking the ball so early, he can take away time from the opposition. That is what made Novak uncomfortable, made him rushing, made him chasing balls after balls.
Hieu Doan Trung you are right in this situation and I should’ve said because the court is much faster than the modern surfaces including Wimbledon.
No1 Jocker Nole federer can cry
@@hieudoantrung6588 thats damn true bro!
No matter how good or how many slams either Rafa or Nole end up with for me Federer is the absolute GOAT. I cant imagine me going on you tube to watch old matches from Nadal or Djokovic but I catch myself longing for old footage of Federer. What a joy to watch him in full flow. I've seen them all from the early 70's untill the present. The only other player I saw that had that genius spark was McEnroe. The rest of the champs all had a great games but nothing like Federer. I doubt if we will ever see something like him again.
Federer indeed played beautifully
Same here!
Good bye Roger. Thank you for giving us the good times and the bad times. You are the best I’ve seen and you showed my son and I how tennis should be played, with style and elegance. Through the Borg, McEnroe, Connors, Lendl, Sampras, and Agassi days, I’ve seen it all. You are the GOAT by far
And your judgment is peerless and spot on. Speaks for so many millions who have seen Roger play. Not a regular, repeat champ, but a pure phenomenon.
When Federer was quicker...and the courts were faster. Absolute domination.
Now they have made all the courts slow. It doesnt suite him at all, but it suits Nadal and Djokovic thats why the are winning more and more recently
@@spirit1219 And it's a shame because we fans want attacking-tennis. There's good reason why the French Open scores the lowest tv ratings (outside of France) amongst the GSs.
h d what’s your source for that claim? I’d love to believe it!
@@EmperorsNewWardrobe Can't cite a specific source, I've heard it repeated numerous times over the decades.
But on a practical level, U.S. cable television offers very little coverage of early rounds for the French, and less coverage of middle rounds than the other three. Some of that probably has to do with ratings competition, for instance the Aussie Open, although the least prestigious GS, has very little TV ratings sports competition in late Jan to early Feb, while the French contends with MLB season heating up plus the NBA Finals.
Ven Tabunda Fed hasnt dominated since the other 3 came of age. He only dominated dealing with Nalbandian, Roddick, Hewitt, Safin etc when the other 3 were babies.
I've watched players from four decades performing at their peak. No one matches Federer's grace and agility when he was at his peak. He's a different League altogether.
I love your comment
What about Courier on clay in 1991?
@@andreacaldarone4909 Grace and agility compared to Fed?
He had the best hands, he could adjust to the elements with ease… and his ability to come in, cut the angles and take the ball that bit earlier made him lethal.. and he did all that with class..
I remember Federer saying something like "I used to get angry, but then I stopped when I only played worse because of it", it's like after that moment early in his career when he stopped being angry, it's like he found his inner self and could read the code of Tennis. It's like if not being angry is all it takes then I'll take it.
That net dominance omg. That’s why I love Fed
A fearless Federer is unbeatable Federer.
Notice how Federer hits almost every shot in different directions, and gradually comes forward as his opponent tries to move to the other side to hit the ball...so smart Federer!
I could fall asleep watching Djokovic play, but Federer is just a joy to watch. Grace, elegance, skill, agility, aggressiveness, range of attacking plays. He lives or dies by his attacking play, no amount of slow courts and boring defensive tennis will change that. I respect Nole, he is a machine at what he does, but Federer is pure art and the reason why tennis is a beautiful sport and for me no statistics will change my opinion that he is the greatest tennis player of all time.
Soo much yes.
Totally agree
The most masterful fast court player of all time. Superbly elegant in all facets of the game, a consummate gentleman and professional, and a tremendous ambassador for tennis.
Yes the trend of balls an courts getting slower was really against his playing style and gave more opportunities for less offence players having less risk in their shots. Like the risk didn't pay out as well as before for Federer. In the fast court era he was really unbeatable. It was with so much grace and dominance, it's in my opinion unmatched.
Those forehands, backhands and 4 aces in a row 🔥 Novak expression is saying everything
Kamran Raza the second one wasn’t an ace
We need Federer to play like this again!!
His back really hurts snd he is not young like those other tennis players like nadal is like 34 or 33 and djokovic is like 32 or 31 in age
Federer is good player and very nice to watch but Djokovic and rafa is little bit more better and don't forget FedEx is almost 40 ... nobody can recharge battery in that gear

I’m sure that almost all players would agree that Roger is the best ever. The one handed style makes it look more like a game to played rather than a match to be won
The last comment 5:20 summed it up:
"What a match, what performance,
and the manner of the performance:
An absolute joy to watch!"
Indeed.
Federer on his day vs Nadal on his day vs Djokovic on his day, Federer wins for me, the way this guy plays tennis is like watching Michael Jordan play basketball ... both MJ and Fed are the reasons on why their respective sports are watched by millions ... pure masterclass!!
Federer would win on a faster court like this or grass
Nadal wins on clay and high bouncing hard court
Djokovic wins on slow low bouncing hard court
Nadal wins on Clay. Federer wins on grass and fast hard courts. Djokovic wins on slow hard courts.
@@apathak34 bro that's true. But Rog's raquet work is something else. And he likes flow. Even on a relatively slow surface we know he can be lethal af. But then, takin nothing away from Rafa or Nole, he can be brilliant. That's where the psychology of time-slowing and stuff play a part. A little part perhaps, but decisive nonetheless. And Rafa and Nole are unparalleled masters at that.
Nadal is Federer's kryptonite. Head to head Nadal just has Federer's number. However, Federer is still the greatest of all time. Seems like a contradiction but that's the best way I can put it. BTW I'm a Nadal fan.
So true. Like in the last dance they talk about one year Michael being the best player on the planet the next he was the greatest player to ever exist. Players have had more rings than Jordan but when Federer was on his day he will always be the greatest player to have existed.
I can’t not watch Federer playing without smiling and laughing at his ridiculous shots and how skilled he is. The maestro
He's been a type of tennis that no one seems able to recreate anymore
@ 2:44, serves from the near side of the court and returns from the far side of the court. Magical. Only Federer can do that. GOAT.
😂😂
4 aces in a row that too against the best return player...
Surely brutal
low key , this is insane
Djokovic got his racket on the second point, not an ace
Best returners are also often the ones who conceeds the most aces because part of the reason they return so well is that they anticipate more than others... meaning that a slight misread is more likely to lead to an ace, although generally speaking they're on the ball earlier, allowing them to hit better returns
btw these aren't my words but it's from a tennis expert a while ago, I think at the time he was referring to Davydenko and Ferrer
@@clemchar6615 Davydenko and Ferrer were great returners for guys under 6ft, because they anticipated well and were aggressive. The actual best returners - Djokovic and Murray - certainly don’t get aced more often than average players, because they turn defensive return positions into aggressive ones with their long reach.
The best return player is Medvedev. End of discussion. It's extremely difficult to hit an ace against Medvedev.
Others might break Federer's record but they cannot perfect his play style...Such art
He played with such purpose, too. There is a reason behind every single shot he plays. Like a grandmaster in chess, no wasted moves

Federer - King of Tennis. What an idol on and off the court
He plays so early and with power and precision. Absolutely ruthless tennis.
I remember watching him live at the French Open, probably 15 years ago, about.
Quarter Final, Center court, against the 8th ranked player in the world at the time, can’t remember his name unfortunately.
Federer just served, ace.
Served, ace.
Served, volley.
Served, the opponent put it in the net.
That game lasted a minute and a half or so.
He then proceeded to send a ball to the young dude in charge of carrying them on the other side of the court.
Federer was thinking and focusing, looking down towards the ground, when he hit that ball with his racket.
That ball arrived in the young guy’s hand perfectly.
He didn’t have to move.
Roger hadn’t even looked at were he had thrown that ball.
I was a young teenager back then, and will remember this very moment my entire life.
The worst thing is:
It always looked so classy and effortless…
Making it look easy…
I remember this match. Djokovic played so good and would've easily beaten anyone else, but Federer was just so attacking and he found the lines all the time.
He hardly made any errors in thus match especially considering that so many of those volleys and passing shots blocked were very difficult

Yes exactly, let's not kid ourselves, this level of Federer performance is in my opinion the highest level someone has ever played the game. Its so complete. and Wimbledon 2005-07 my goodness he was flawless.
