    Agassi calls Sampras boring in front of the entire stadium. Sampras imitates the walk(which several players do) and it was genuinely funny and in good taste. Agassi retaliates by mocking Pete's personal life instead of his game and generates unnecessary tension for everyone. Agassi's is a baby and still takes his losing record against Pete personally.

There was no need to attack him like that. Of course, I get Andre said so because of was it written on his book 'Open', but c'mon Andre! you're better than that! you're amazing! there was no need, man!

    • @ninjaturtlemaster24
      @ninjaturtlemaster24 5 лет назад +9

      There was nothing hilarious about petes joke, which was imitating andres walk and mannerisms, which borders on making fun. People can get real embarrassed by that. That was a personal attack on andre.
      All andre did was poke fun at pete for 'not tipping' and somehow people think that was more personal?? Im sorry but thats nonsense. Andre did not poke fun at petes appearance or mannerisms. It was pete who turned things ugly. Not andre.
      I know why people take petes side though. Its cowardice. Pete has won more slams and is seen as the better player. Therefore his 'status' allowed him to get away with something an ordinary person would not have been allowed to get away with.
      Put yourself in the situation. Imagine you had andres walk and also did not tip like sampras doesnt tip. If someone were to choose one thing to make fun of you in public, would you rather them make fun of you for not tipping or your actual walk?? I know i would choose not tipping.
      Pete was not hilarious and he was not a gentleman at all. Dont mistake being 'cold' for being a 'gentleman'.

    I've read "Open" and "A Champions Mind". They borh respected each other but Andre clearly has a major chip on his shoulder regarding Pete, and Pete CLEARLY has an elevated level of competitiveness regarding Agassi. They're not good friends and they're not warm rivals. In calm conditions they say really respectful things about each other. For example, after Agassi won French in 99 Sampras said it was a remarkable and brilliant achievement. But then he smashed Agassi in 99 Wimbledon. Im sure only they really understand their very complex relationship.

Agassi, an 8 time slam winner who was owned by Sampras consistently is somehow better than Borg, an 11 time multi-surface master and Rod Laver, winner of the calendar slam in the amateur, pro, and open era. And who won 30 titles on hardcourts, grass, and clay. Is somehow WORSE than Agassi...

    Pete Sampras was a genius player underrated because he wasnt a show pony. His charity revolves around cancer. He beat Andre in 2002 before Pete retired. And all remember what pay and endorsements are now. I saw Pete playing on a back court in Sydney -doubles - and never had seen him before but knew immediately he would go on to be a true champion. and had no ego - just played - a master game.

      They may have more total grand slams, but, Andre has a Career Golden Grand Slam which Roger and Pete don't have. Nadal has one and very few players have one. Pete won 14 slams, but, doesn't even have a career grand slam (all 4 slams on all 4 surfaces) Roger, Nadal, Andre have career grand slams but only Nadal and Agassi have Career Golden Grand Slams.....so......

    • @mahmoudmousavi6391
      @mahmoudmousavi6391 7 лет назад +2

      I know one thing that made Pete so great was his serve.....but if you were to equalize his serve with Agassi's, Agassi would have destroyed him on almost every occasion they played...That's why Pete has no French Open and actually never even got a sniff of one. Because the French Open neutralizes the serve to a degree. You have to be able to adapt, and the other 3 guys adapted. Pete Sampras is one of the greatest of all time, but, IMO, all the other 3 should be regarded higher on the list. Agassi did many things Pete didn't do, and Agassi held his level of play at a high level for a very long time (which was almost unheard during that specific generation of players).

    I think Agassi went a bit too personal on such a stage.. he's a lot of fun but he should have eased off or made a compliment to comfort the situation. Pete is an introvert, he's a great sport for showing up for such an event (as are the others).. and it gets to him.
    He might not have meant it, but Agassi should have noticed that his joke didn't land well.
    I do love to see these players on court though, let alone together... can't believe we are at the end of another era 'already'.

    Sampras is 38. Federer is now 37 and is still is at the top of the men's game. It just goes to show that expectations are being raised for players to continue playing well into their 30s as a result of Federer's recent success.

      gumbo nothing. He was just imitating Agassi, which is a normal thing to do, but Agassi said he would imitate Pete, putting his pockets out because Pete doesn't give tips to waiters, I think that's why he got mad. Agassi shouldn't have done that
