- Welcome to my Halide Mk II tutorial! If you want to learn Halide and are looking to get your money's worth, I'm here to help you take advantage of its powerful features, and give you the knowledge to take the best photos possible.
Updates
14/12/20 - Halide now supports ProRAW, and tapping and holding on the Quick Bar doesn't enter jiggle mode. Instead, you get a format switcher, and the option to adjust the Quick Bar is at the top called 'Arrange Toolbar'.

Halide Mk II is the second iteration of the hugely popular Halide Pro Camera app developed by Lux Optics. It combines powerful functionality such as RAW, manual controls and exposure guides with a beautifully intuitive user interface.
The developers, Lux Optics, were not involved whatsoever in the creation of this user guide and they have not sponsored its creation. It was made based on my own extensive usage/testing and research to ensure its accuracy.

I hope your efforts are compensated by Halide somehow because if it was up to their instructions I would have erase the app already despite the fact that I consider myself an experienced amateur.. Though my jury is still out, I appreciate your help. Best regards.
Ahh this is great. Love that you've got value from the tutorial. No, the developers haven't acknowledged this tutorial whatsoever but that's fine; I make them exactly for people in the same situation as you.
I set up this camera as the author has for video, and I have a problem my iPhone 7 does not open the DNG format which is in raw +, I don’t understand, and my image quality in raw is low, worse than in a standard camera, what should I do?
heeeelp
@@JAKE-wt1dr The photos app can't display RAW files without an embedded JPEG. Try opening your RAW files in an editing app like Lightroom, Darkroom or RAW Power.

thank you friend!
A PDF would be essential!
Bar none…one of the very best tutorials I have ever watched and I watch a ton of them on different topics and apps. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this clear, concise, and informative.
I was a little hesitant to watch this because it didn’t have 2 million views; however, this was the best tutorial I’ve ever seen on any subject, I think you hit a home run.
Thanks! 2 million views one day!
Thank you, this is so helpful. I downloaded Halide a year ago and have hardly used it because I did not really know how, intending to learn later. Later never came until now, as I have to decide whether to pay for another year's subscription. I will have to watch your instructions a couple of times but the first time has given me so much information about the app. Again, thank you
One of the best tuts I’ve come across for Halide! 🙌🏽
You thank us for watching, but we should thank you for putting all this together, David. For it being your first tutorial, it's a banger. It's very well paced and thoroughly so. Many of the things you teach I have found out about myself, but some details were really helpful and can't wait to apply them (especially knowing that zebra is not always under/over exposed and I always had a hard time "getting rid of all the zebra" in my manual exposure). Thanks again for taking the (presumably lot of) time of doing this and sharing it with the world. Keep it up!
Absolutely great tutorial. Thank you, it was really informative and whilst Halide’s own tutorials were a start, this was much more helpful. A PDF would be a wonderful adjunct to have available as a reference, though I do realise how much additional effort would be involved. Thank you so much for all the care and effort that has gone in to all your productions - a new video notification is always a reason to stop whatever else is happening and settle back and enjoy!
Ahh thanks Nigel! I'm glad you enjoyed it and great to know it's appreciated. More coming all the time!
I think we all should give credit, where credit's due. Thanks a lot for this extremely detailed and well structured tutorial. It's tough to imagine how much effort you put into this half an hour video, but definitely it's well worth it. I'll be strongly recommending it to anyone who wants to take on the adventure with the Halide. And, obviously, I'll be looking forward to hearing from you in case Halide decide to drop in some new features. Watching and listening to you was a real pleasure. Cheers, Greg.
Thank you so much Greg! I really appreciate your support. It is a lot of work but I love it and want app developers and subscribers to keep me busy 😁
Probably the best tutorial I've watched dude. Def not the worse. The best! You put a lot of time into this and it shows. I even subscribed. Looking forward to many more. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I just discovered Halide, and your excellent tutorial, a couple of hours ago. Thank you, and I'm looking forward to future videos! I'm also throwing my hat in the "please create a .pdf" ring :)
Just viewed this tutorial. I just got Halide and starting to fall in love with it. This is helping a lot!!! Thank you!
I love that people like David exist.
Great video. I've had the app for a while but have not figured out how to use it. You helped tremendously. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge in an easy to follow format. Also, thanks for the time stamps. I will use them to refer back to parts of your video that I need at a given time. Well Done!!
Thank you David! I have had Halide for years and use it in auto as my go-to photo app. I never realised just how powerful the app is until watching your EXCELLENT tutorial. I will use my phone camera so much more now as a result!
Fantastic tutorial. I’ve been trying to use Halide Mark II for a while now and you definitely showed me some things I hadn’t figured out. Thanks!
You’re welcome Bill. Happy shooting!
Well done I will have to come back for repeats n this is where I will come. Lots of info and solid speaking style Thank you
I've watched several of your RUclipss on RAW photography - some a few times - coming to terms with the terms used. Years ago I began getting into film and darkroom techniques. RAW and post production opens up similar possibilities to 'playing' with photographs. Now I have an iPhone 11 and have - of the options you've reviewed - chosen Halide and have begun learning how to use it. Thank you for your calm and comprehensive tutorials..
Thanks Edwin! Feel free to ask any questions if you need to
Thanks David. Another professional, well made and informative vid. Very helpful.
Thanks, I’m happy you like it!
Thank you for the rundown. Watched the whole video and enjoyed the ride.
Mate that was brilliant. Keeping us engaged for such a long time is a big challenge. Love the knowledge and tips. Great editing too.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Just got Halide and was more than flummoxed by the number and complexity of the features. Your tutorial was very helpful! I grasped most of what you said but plan to watch it again. Thanks for the excellent organization and clarity, as well as the illustrations. The whole tutorial was very well done - many thanks!
Thanks! This is why I made it
I plan to watch it a couple of more times after using the app. Great job!
Very well made. Full coverage and nicely paced without any "vocal excitement". Also appreciate the "no clue how to use this feature remark" :). You would expect Lux to have a full featured tutorial like this vs a 10 day email course. We may even find out how they intended certain features to be used.
Thanks Erik! Yeah, but if they did my tutorial would have no reason for being 😆
Wonderful tutorial, David. Was a big help and I've signed up for the 7-day trial. Will give it a run through, but so far it is a terrific flow in the UI.
Thanks mate for you very patient guide. Really enjoyed watching it.
Thanks for putting together this tutorial. I'm a professional photography working in Los Angeles and I have wanted to use my iPhone as a point and shoot camera for simple street photography, and your tutorial on Halide has made me actually use my iPhone camera more regularly. Thanks again.
Great to hear it! Happy shooting! 😀
Fabulous tutorial. If you can do a PDF that would be awesome! And perhaps a tutorial on editing in Darkroom too?? Thanks so much.
Wow, I learned the app propertly thanks to you and someone paid tribute to my effort on learning things, which made me happy. Thanks for the great tutorial.
Happy to hear it!
Great review. Clear, thorough and well produced. Great graphics. I want more like this.
More to come!
That was a great tutorial and gave me a real insight on the usability of the app. Sometimes I want the convenience of a more automated app instead of just manual so I thank you
Fabulous video! Thanks so much. I have watched it multiple times because it is so dense and full of useful information.
Thanks Glenn!
Absolutely superb tutorial. Thanks very much. I learned loads. Which I had watched it before I went out today.
Thanks, Paul!
Really helpful tutorial. Thank you.
I was a little hesitant with Halide as there were a few things that I didn’t understand.
Thanks to your video I’m more likely to try it out more now
You’ve done a great job with this. Very clear and concise and valid information. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you very much for all the effort and time you put into making a great tutorial - you've got a new subscriber!
What a great tutorial, very professional! Thank you so much!

Almost 2 years later and it's an outstanding tutorial. Thank you.
Thanks Luther! I can't bring myself to rewatch it lol
Excellent tutorial, David. Thank you,
Excellent tutorial you made it grate congratulations hope you will continue exploring many things
Great job, David! Thanks very much. With greetings from 🇩🇪
Thank you for this guide, just bought Halide Mk II and thanks to your clear instructions I know I can get more out of this app and my 12 max.
Glad I could help!
Do you like this App, because it's cost so much compared to Moment App ...
Thanks for making the effort to do this. Really appreciate it.
My pleasure!
Th k you for this excellent video. Really like the presentational style and it’s made things really clear for me to take step into ProRaw and use a more powerful app than the basic iOS camera. Thank you very much and keep making the videos. I’ll be watching as many as I can.
Great tutorial mate. Really good insight on using the features and the difference they make. Good one
Glad it was helpful!
Great tutorial. Well done and keep them coming
Excellent instructional video. I have downloaded it to my RUclips downloads and will use it for reference in the field. I plan to do a lot more experimenting with my iPhone 15Pro.
I love your tutorial. I learned a lot and will doubtless be returning to review. Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the in-depth tutorial. The "O zi bună" at the end of the video totally took me by surprise. ✌️
Thanks for watching right until the end! Well, yes, I hope everyone has a good day 😆
Thank you for taking the time - very clear!

Thanks Scott!
“Worst tutorial in the history of cognition”?? The BEST tutorial!!! Though I will need a couple of rewatches to nail it down. Well done!!!
Great tut, David Thanks.
David, thanks so much. I was about to delete the Halide app during my trial period, but I've decided to keep it. Awesome tutorial.
Glad I could help!

Criminally underrated channel

Thanks!
Great tutorial, really helped me understand how to use halide mk ii
Glad you liked it!
Thanks for your contributions!
My pleasure!
¡Qué maravilla! Incluso con un nivel medio de inglés (y gracias a los subtítulos) me he enterado de casi todo. Gran trabajo ¡enhorabuena! ¿Harás algún tutorías sobre edición de fotos? 🙏🏻
Fabulous, thank you.
Three years later, and this tutorial is extremely valuable. I found the app when I was looking for something to do some head shots for my wife and I wanna make sure they look really nice and not just a phone pic. Thanks so much!
Three years? Blimey. Glad I could help!
@@David_Addison yep! My only mistake was a bit of contour shadow but I shared the pic in my community feed. Thx again!
Very helpful! Thanks a lot and please do more!
I will!
Great work David 👍
Thanks Graeme!
Excellent video again! I wonder why this channel has not gotten 100k subscribers yet
Maybe one day!
well done and maximum helpful!
Another great vid!! Making my decision easy! Thanks man
Thanks! Decision to buy Halide?
@@David_Addison Im on the 7 day free trial .......see how it goes !
Really informative and very helpful. Doing a bit of travelling soon and really would rather not have to take a DSLR and multiple lenses with me. I use a DJI mini 2 drone a lot and am hoping to try to get everything else with the iPhone 11 Pro thats always in my pocket, so your videos on Halide mk 2 and Even Longer have been a great help in getting the most out of the iPhone camera
it’s the best tutorial keep making videos 🤙🏼
Thanks, will do!
You are a rockstar. Excellent!!!
🤘
Awesome, as a newbie, I have a lot to learn using an iPhone for photography. But you did an excellent job and I will go over it several times. Your offer for a PDF would certainly help. Keep up the great work 👊
Glad it was helpful Angelo! Happy shooting.
Great tut David!
Thanks Jaap!
ive been really struggling with complex exposures on the raw photo via Halide and this has given me a couple techniques to try!
i know my iphone 12 is probably giving me some technical constraints, but with better attention paid to the histogram + zebras + manual isu/shutter I should be able to improve! Thanks!
Great tutorial!!! WIll help me alot when shooting on my phone.
Happy shooting!
Excellent tutorial. Reminds me of Filmic Pro tutorial by a British guy.
Great stuff 👏. Looking forward to your video on Apple ProRaw
You and me both!
Thanks for this great video. Clear as mud
You didn't understand it?
I don't even own the app but i sat through and watched the entire video lol. Subbed as well, your videos are great and very informative. It's been a long time since I have been able to dabble in photography,, and so this was a great refresher. My girlfriend loves to take photos so I may get to get back into it again and wanted to find an app that will get me as close to a DSLR as possible since I am also not in a place that will allow me to grab the next best canon lol. This app has caught my eye, there are a few concerns but I think I will get this sometime.
"I don't even own the app but i sat through and watched the entire video" Bloody love that!
very well made, congratulations.
Thanks Armin!
Holy crap dude your voice is so soothing
You made me re-watch a bit of the video to remind myself of what my voice sounds like 😆
Thanks for this Tutorial. I,ve tested many camera apps Like ProCamera and so on, but Halide make me feel to make good Photos easy with so much Functionality. But i dont know which is the BEST Camera app but i think i use Halide for the next Time.
