Homelessness - When the cost of housing exceeds and/or becomes a major portion of a person's income such that it becomes unaffordable. The unaffordability eventually causes a person onto the streets eventually leading, in some cases, to depression, substance ( alcohol, drugs, etc ) abuse and possibly leading to mental illness. The unaffordability is caused by property owners, managers, and landlords increasing housing costs to exuberant levels without regards to the consequences on people.
... And when minimum wage goes up, almost automatically so does housing such that it wipes-out any minimum wage benefits. Again the only ones benefitting are the property owners, managers, and landlords. It's time to put a stop to this vicious cycle because it also contributes to rising economic inflation.
Kotek pushed and allowed corporate developers as my former district state rep to demolish entire swaths of 1920 beautiful bungalows, destroying neighborhoods to erect concentrated seven storied unaffordable, towering non-parking buildings which changed the face of our once beautiful neighborhoods. She lined her pockets from these developers who raise the rent every year, and have harmed affordable housing...Kotek is a menace career politician
Maybe don't vote for trash that causes expenses to go up resulting in rent going up etc ..
1) property owners are the ones who actually pay the bills and manage the property, they have a right to make a profit after taking care of everyone else
2) the rising costs are from direct and indirect policy failures. Remember lumber costing double when they shut down oregan. Everyone spent their time using lumber for projects. Lumber prices doubled due to the unexpected demand.
2) inflation is caused by the federal reserve printing money
3) wages are imposed by city council and state legislatures
4) property owners pay property taxes (subject to government), principal and interest (guess who), permit fees and evictions by guess who again

Why are the solutions to homelessness so complicated ? It started with UNAFFORDABILITY and it can end with AFFORDABILITY ! Go after the GREEDY property owners, managers, and landlords ( thieves ) where the problems started in the first place. I have seen homeless in Florida with education and careers who still could not earn enough to afford the continually rising housing.costs ! The mental problems, substance abuses, etc come after becoming homeless due to the thieves ! ...
The whole problem is the Democrats have been in power and have a overspent reducing the value of the dollar while providing no penalty for any drug use so people stay in a stupor and don’t even know what’s going on.

Raising the minimum wage and discriminating against people with limited capability by not allowing them to have a job and value in their life. to get subsidy and housing you cannot work which which leads to drug abuse and crime. The corruption and state government in Oregon is at all levels and none of the people are being prosecuted or held accountable. Our voting system is completely broken 15 to 30% of the votes are fraudulent.
What people do not understand when comes to voting is that voting is so important on a local level. The president of the US is useless to the American People. Your governor of the state you live in is your president and you pay your taxes in one place your domicile and the mayor and governor of your state has ,more of a direct affect on your life then the president. Your mayor and Governor practically run your daily life. Actually mayor of your city or town then Governor. The Governor is the bigger picture. You cant live in all 50 states at the same time. Why do you care what happens in other states. You are an Oregonian first before you are an American. Like I am a New Yorker first before I am an American. Think about it. The states operate as 50 separate countries. Politics is always local not national. By the elites making you think it is more important nationally they are taking your rights away because the focus goes away from your home state. The president is only important to the governors of the states because the governors run their states and The president of the US is the governor's boss. the governors are really scared. My political science professor in University taught us this in 1994 and he is so right. So vote hard and vote for what you feel will help your life.

It's all these 'services' that draw people from around the country to freebie Portland.
I think we can require law and order while also holding police accountable for their own misdeeds. Yes, we want police, but I refuse to accept them back as they were before. These last 2 years have felt like police racketeering. After calls, reasonable calls mind you, for basic accountability and reform they responded with "nice city you have there, it'd be a real shame if something happened to it..." As if a ruling preventing the criminalization of camping somehow prevented them from going after rampant auto and retail theft. I'm not buying it. So, yes, we need police and we need to support them, but that comes with a big caveat that we need the police reform we were pushing for first.

I’m a left-leaning independent. Aside from being annoyed with all of them for the barrage of mudslinging political ads recently, I really don’t like any of them and don’t think any have a chance of accomplishing anything substantive in terms of legislation. They come across as the typical scheming, double-talking, maneuvering, sleazy politicians. All three are about as genuine as a three dollar bill. So it comes down to this, for me anyway. Do we let Oregon take a sharp turn to the right or not? Drazen is far right, as much as she tries to pretend otherwise. Kotek is openly far left. Both the far left and far right are dangerous but the right clearly more. I don’t like the far left but I’ll stick with the devil I know rather than the devil I don’t. I’ll be firmly holding my nose and voting Kotek.
