Using the stem from the Giant Defy was a good choice. I think that if Giant had made this the stock option, they would have sold more of these new Propels.
@@chrisbirkle6648 Both work, but the defy spacers fit the defy stem (SL Stealth stem) flush, whereas the propel spacers are slightly longer and don't sit flush with the stem. You can see this in the video @15:12 Did you go through with the modification? How'd it go?
Whats about the steering? Is it okay with these cable routing design? I have a Giant Propel 2020 with mechanical groupset, but the steering is horrible with this design. Any solution for that?
Do you think the stem cover looks funny? Just returned my Aeroad due to all the drama and I don’t want to break anything while riding. Also, I wonder if turning the bike while riding is restrictive due to the way they hide the cables.
That was an awesome build! I like that you used the defy stem (propel stem looks ugly imo). But Is there a way to fit the first (lowest) spacer on the stem without disconnecting and reconnecting all the cables? I have a giant propel advanced 2 rim brake, and I'd like to fit that stem (SL Stealth, defy stem) on it. I'm not worried about the spacers above, as those detach at the rear. But I wonder if the first stem also has that feature. It'd be such a headache if I I had to remove all the cables to do it. Thanks in advance!
definitely the defy stem, this is a good alternative for people wanting to run regular 31.8 bars on the propel but still have the integrated cables. On the mechanical equipped propels and defys, they have the ports on the side of the stem for the derailleur cables as they cant fit 4 up through the bars and then the brake cables are run through the top of the bars into the stem. on electronic these holes are plugged and the di2 cable is small enough to go with the brake cables (etap doesnt have to worry) Now in this build the 2 holes for the mechanical cables have been used for the brake cables because the bars dont have the hole in the top of the stem, this can be done because etap is being used and there are only 2 cables
Beautiful build! Trying to mimic it, but please help me out. The propel steer tube is 1 1/4 but the SL stealth stem is advertised as 1 1/8. What did you do here?
Shame you forgot the rubber bung that goes on the inside of the fork around the brake line as it enters the frame like you fitted on the rear brake frame entry hole.
Beautiful build, but the concept of a 1x kills me. My legs need every gear possible Also why rovals over cadex? Are they really that much better or is this just a no expense spared build?
Hey mate, so I have other bikes with easy gearing so leave the propel for flats only. I wouldn't say roval is better than cadex, it's what I had at the time, roval cl is good pair of training and racing wheels. Cadex in my opinion is more highend
@@thedropcycling thanks for the response, yeah I'd love to have a bike for different types of riding but my 2020 propel is my commuter, hill climber, sprinter and recovery bike all in one. Got to get the best value out of it I suppose
I've ordered the Giant Propel Advanced pro disc 2021 from my trusted dealer in Italy so I would ask you some questions:Is the frame too rigid? Are the vibes trasmitted by tarmac to handlebar intense? How does the bike behave on the ascent?
Hi welcome to the channel, advance pro is more comfortable than the SL I have. The SL is stiff, very rigid. Put wider tyres on it will help to soften the vibration from the road. Very stable in the decent.
@@johnoakleymusic haha you win John, my hands knows what it is like 4nm or 5nm, they are pretty good but you are right, yes should really use torque wrench everywhere, but in general.

You are so right. I don't know what they were thinking
Thinking of buying a defy stem for my 2019 propel advanced 2 (non aero stem version). Do you use defy or propel spacers to fit the defy stem please?

I have a 2022 that I am getting ready to set up this way. Took me forever to confirm the Defy stem would work. Thanks for showing this!
Climbing a hill on such bike with the 54t x 28t gear ratio must a be a treat. Lovely video, lovely bike. :)
Oh yess I tried 🤣
Once again, a symphony of calm precision 😀👍
Thanks mate, took my time building this one haha :)
Put together accurately like a surgeon! Well done! #golakers
Too kind brother 👊 bron gotta win this for mamba
Another quality production Nicky boy

They gave you a full refund or just recall? Turning is fine, it does look a bit funny
@@thedropcycling I returned it. Full refund. Don’t think they will do a recall. Too much money involved.
I got a SL6 today! NBD!!! Haha
You did put the polystyrene cover of the compression plug with it... Why?
a very sleek a easy way to go fully integrated on the handlebar. my f12 sucks in this discipline
And prob cost 2 times more🤪
love the vids mate, awesome build
Thanks mate. Stay tuned 👍
What tire size did you fit into these beautiful ROVAL CL50? I have this same bike and Im concerned there is very little tire clearance in the back 😢
25mm tyres to be safe. 28mm if your rims aren't too wide

if there is no hood in the spacer then unfortunately everything has to be disconnected to replace it
@@thedropcycling Thanks for the reply. I guess the only way is for me to purchase it.
You need to zoom in more and use a more close up camera view. Cant see the details.
Good advise mate
Is that stem from Defy?
Is there enough room to run 4 cables?
Thanks in advanced!
Looks like a defy pro stem to me as definitely isn’t a propel one

is there a way to totally hide the cable? assuming that the handlebar is like what we have with the propel only rounded in the middle?
Not really with the old propel
@@thedropcycling old like 2022?

Gotta make sure stem steer size is 1/4
Hello! How do you do the handlebar height adjustment? Do you have to cut the fork tube?
Yes with propel you will have to cut the steer
Shame you forgot the rubber bung that goes on the inside of the fork around the brake line as it enters the frame like you fitted on the rear brake frame entry hole.
one more: did you use the original spacer of the propel on the stem?
Yes although it's not 100% fit

White vs yellowish grease ? What’s difference?

Thanks Trevor. Dura ace 11-28
No problem! And how is the shifting with on a 1x with the 11-28 cassette? Is it smooth or are the jumps longer when shifting gears?
Not at all. Shifts very smoothly and fast
