  • Nick here! Today I`m doing the review of the Awaken Realms Nemesis Aftermath Expansion from the Kickstarter Board Game! Designed by Adam Kwapiński, this game is an amazing mix of co-op sci-fi horror/survival game and the expansion adds new elements and 3 new ways to play the game, new characters, turrets, new room and so on.
    I got this copy from the Nemesis Lockdown Kickstarter campaign first wave where they shipped the original game plus its expansions.

    Nemesis is my favorite board game of all time! I really like the expansion I just wish some of the characters were better. Like the psychologist is pretty pointless if your playing the co op mode cause the psychologist main thing is she can see people’s secret actions they do. But other than that it’s a solid expansion

      Psychologist is not that pointless in coop. Apart from providing extra actions and faster burning through action deck to others, she also creates a Nerves-of-Steel-like safety bubble around everyone in her room or even in neighbouring ones (with a quest item). She's just mostly a support character.

      We play the game with only the harder and most conflicting objectives, mixed together and deal 2 randomly. It turns the game into a pure competitive ground. Phycologist is very strong character with the fastest card cycling in game due to card draw, ability to pass with only 1 defense card in hand against surprise attacks, and out of turn card play. More card cycling means more nasty actions that orders people around (even in combat) and potentially getting them killed to your benefit.

    I dove deep online, seems like there's a translation error from original to English. The turret not only attacks in fire damage step, but also attack immediately when anything enters or spawns in the room (before surprise attack). This adds significant tension during exploration, trick plays with control room that could even be used against other players, and sometimes even good defense against surprise attacks.

    Would you implement a house rule to only shuffle in the alert cards once an intruder shows up?

    The stupid 5 turn time track is a game breaker for epilogue. There’s no logical reason for it and ruins the exploration, combat, crafting, searching and everything else that made the original awesome.
    We use the original time track instead.
