The week after Thanksgiving and I am excited about the holidays! I feel good about this week so my mind starts thinking about preparing for next week. I go in search looking for the best book to use as a mentor text in writing and I get the opportunity to present to my ELA peers. The topic is on active literacy and using T.W.I.R.L. to plan out your reading lessons.

Yes! Tell your husband it is TRUE! My students were acting the same way! On another note, you are AMAZING! Thank you for providing us with so many useful tips, strategies, and lessons! I wish our collaborations were as informative as what you provided your team. I know you love teaching kids BUT there should be a Bridget Spackman in every district helping teachers provide the best possible instruction for their students!
I absolutely love all of your videos. I watch every week. This video has to be one of my favourites and I want to share it with all of my teacher friends. Thank you for sharing so many of fantastic ideas with us. I love that I can go into my classroom tomorrow morning and start thinking about how to use some of these lessons and resources with my middles. I think it is great that you go into depth about how you plan lessons and how you really think about how to make them the best for your students all the while sharing with us. You are gracious to share your ideas and thought process, as well as, resources that you use to generate your ideas. I am on my first year as part of a Literacy Community with my school and school division. I am going to send my admin this link tomorrow and have them both watch it! I think that your TWIRL strategy for assessment is fantastic and want to learn more about it. Thank you for sharing the two books that you did. Do you have any other favourite resources that you use on a regular basis that guides your ELA planning? I am always searching for new ones. I would love to see more videos like this....although I love all the other ones too!
And I also believe in the full moon craziness in a classroom. I first learned about it when I waitressed in a bar and we would keep track of full moons because the patrons would always be extra rowdy on a full moon!
Thank you again for sharing all of your wonderful ways!
Love the book bag idea! One suggestion, that might make you life easier, is to plan Wednesday to Wednesday. That way you are planning over the weekend because you are set for monday. This will also allow your families to read over the weekend when they may have more time together.
Youre such an inspiration to me.

Yes, I notice a difference with my students during the full moon. Love the Polar Express. I read it to them, we discuss different aspects of the story, then a show the movie and we do a compare and contrast of the book and the movie. They love this.
YES !..to the full moon effect on the kids!! Bridget you are SO RIGHT!!!
We've been using the TWIRL method for a couple of years now in my district. It really helps make a lesson more balanced and more about the learners.
Hi!! You mentioned the book "Strategies That Work" and I think that's so cool that the author signed a copy for you! I'm currently using that text in one of my college courses! Thank you for your time and making these videos. They're definitely a source of inspiration during the long time consuming projects as an ECE major :)
You inspire me so much! I’m starting student teaching next month and I’m so incredibly nervous but watching you inspires me to be the best teacher I can be and follow my teacher heart and embrace my teaching style like you do!
I loved seeing your process for developing PD and your thought process for how to select mentor texts. Learned a lot! Thanks!
Yes. I first heard that in college. Worked in city hall. I was in the office alone at lunch time. If there was a full moon an older person stayed with me. Full moon days were DRAMA days.
So so true!!!! Full moons make the kids act crazy!
Can't wait to watch this! I had my first ever observation this week - your vlogs have inspired me so much :)
That is great! I hope it all went well.
It was great, my tutor loved it! I'm still learning, but I really do get the feeling my performance is constantly improving. It's been a while since I commented, so I just wanted to check in and let you know I'm still here and loving the vlogs! :)
Love your vlog💗 I am that person too, dress the part. Thanks for showing mentor texts after being high school resource for six years, I am 5/6 resource.
I believe!!! Especially in 1st grade. Love your vlogs. Thank you
I love tea! If you like Earl Gray tea, you might try English Breakfast Time tea! It's a little stronger flavored but similar. Also, have you tried just plain green tea without sugar or honey? I think it's better that way, but I definitely still need sugar in my black tea (since it's pretty bitter).
Also, remember to take your tea bags out after 2-3 minutes of steeping! If you leave it in too long, it will get more bitter and gross.
Full moon most def changes behaviors in the classroom. The students at my school and in my class were off.
Yaaaaas full moon. 💡 it's seriously insanely true.
or magazine racks with labels.
Hi - could you put the goal-sheets/materials on your tpt? Editable? Would be a lifesaver. Thanks for the inspiration. As allways!
The full moon theory is definitely true 🙌🏾
I wanted to know your thoughts on posting the essential question at the beginning or at the end of a lesson. I have heard people say one way is more beneficial than the other.
Thank you for the mini professional development course. So helpful. Wish I had been there. Are you going to be putting the number cards and checklist in your store?
You are so sweet and good teacher... 😊
Tell your husband that I didn't believe until the third or fourth time that I asked myself what happened to my students (they were unusually off the wall) and then saw a full moon on the way home! Happens way too often to be a coincedence! It's TRUE!!
Last year I would totally notice the full moon in my students, but for some reason not YET this year! I have a pretty good group :)
Would love if you could share your strategies to deal with chatting and transitions!! 🌺🤗
My first graders came back from break very talkative as well.

I absolutely love you videos! Is there a way to contact you for advice on teaching? I really would like advice on my writing block. I am struggling with a limited amount if time.
