Damn, this is pretty much exactly what I came up with when the trailer dropped. It's funny, I had someone arguing against it for whatever reasons, I think it had to do with Mara/Shin replacement. I was like dude, I said loose adaptation with the rebels/mandoverse cast, not a direct adaptation... sigh. They're basically going to borrow some of the structure of the originals and reinterpret it to fit the canon. Anyway, I wouldn't put it past Disney to have the same Mara & Luke dynamic/sexual tension with Shin & Ahsoka these days. Not counting on it, but wouldn't be surprised given their track record.
Boba Fett replacing Card makes literally zero sense they've made it very clear that Grandpa Boba is a good guy now Talon Card played both sides until he couldn't ant longer
I don't think they're dropping the OG trio entirely. I do think we see some CGI portrayals of them. Also feel like they will add in Hondo Ohnaka to split duties with boba fett in the Karrde role.
Han and Lando have been recast already, if they let the Solo recasts stand. Luke and Leia have to be recast at some point, which would be a challenge. But I don’t think this will be a retelling of Heir to the Empire. Maybe a lead in to it for an eventual release. But if Mara Jade appears at some point I’ll be happy.
I think that’s the thing. I strongly disagree that the actors are the character, but rather each actor can bring something new to the table. What they had done with Luke is very, very impressive technically, as is tradition with pushing the envelope, but I feel that anything more then a cameo role would probably be better served by someone who can respond to the environment around him. Which makes me believe Luke, Leia etc won’t feature strongly. Which is fair, I feel they are really trying to avoid relying too heavily on the old cast to focus on this ecosystem they been building. Which in my mind is pretty cool and avoids the 90’s trope of slapping them in everything.
They need to bring Luke, Leia, Han and Lando back to the forefront somehow. Their absence feels really strange. Maybe even through an animated show. But having them so sidelined is not good. Especially if we only really get them again in the garbage sequels, where their characters have a been ruined
The thing to remember is that since they seem to be trying this into the Sequel Trillogy, this story has to end in tragedy. The majority of the characters we know from the Mandoverse must either die or be exiled a few years before The Force Awakens. Because none of them are consistent with the First Order being dominant in the Galaxy with Snoke/Kylo as the leadership. Luke is the only for sure survivor from Mandoverse (Leia and Solo yes but they are not Mandoverse characters so far). And we know he ends up exiled. So most of the Mandalorians need to die. Bo Katan must die and Din must die or be exiled (my hope is Din and Grogu are living peaceful lives as krill farmers on a forgotten planet with the romantic hottie woman with mystery blaster skills) Ashoka must die or be exiled. The Ghost crew must die. Boba Fett must die. Gideon and most of the Shadow Council must die. Whatever clones Gideon is working on must die. And even Thrawn must die. Anyone who is adversarial with the Empire must die, but also anyone prominent in leadership of the shadow empire must die. This is all needed to end up with the First Order ruling the Galaxy a few years before 34ABY the start of The Force Awakens. And since Mando season 3 is around 11ABY we only have 10-15 years for everyone to die and this story to end in tragedy. Edit: Finn was born 11ABY ( this year) and was taken by "The first order" when he was 3, so we technically only have max 3 years for this all to hit the fan and for most of the Mandoverse characters to be dead/exiled. And only 17 years till Kylo destroys Luke's school after being corrupted by Snoke.
I actually think Luke, Han, and Leia are the most important dramatic piece of this film...As i feel that they will serve as everymen in which these filoni characters are explained to the audience watching this movie So I actually would not be shocked to see if Luke, Han, and Leia ARE the main characters
The question really then becomes, will they recast. I agree that those characters pretty much have to appear. I’m just not sure deepfakes can carry a whole movie.
I know there is a cannon explanation of Jakku, but they frequently ignore the books and comics. So my question is, do you think they'll switch Billibringi for Jakku?
I could see that and would be mostly fine with it. Jakku played a big part in the canon novels so it makes sense that it will probably show up at some point. At least we know some of the legends planets will appear after seeing Mt Tantiss on Wayland in bad batch.
I think that’s an interesting theory but recasting the main characters isn’t that hard. Theoretically you can have Alden come back as Han, Glover come back as Lando and all you really need to recast is Luke and Leia.
Off topic but I would not mind if Disney brought Darth Krayt back into canon in the new movie that takes place 15 years later after the sequel trilogy but instead of destroying the Jedi order he should absorb it into his Sith order and creating the One Sith
Also if this Baylan is a replacement for Joruus C'Baoth it will be interesting to see how powerful he is. The original Jorus from the Outbound flight book appears to be very powerful, far beyond the Obi Wan Kenobi of that time so at least around Count Dooku's level. He is considered a threat to Palpatine's plans. Joruus from the Heir trilogy seems even more powerful than this, growing more powerful as the trilogy progresses to where he is considered as dangerous as the emperor. Now this was the early 90s and Palpatine has been made much more powerful in canon since then but if Baylan is as powerful as Joruus Ashoka will not be able to defeat him easily. (Joruus C'baoth did not use a lightsaber also)
Personally, I see this more as an expansion of the classic Thrawn trilogy rather than a replacement for it. We will absolutely see the OT cast become involved with this storyline soon enough, but they are also bringing back surviving Clone Wars characters, the Ghost Crew, Mandalorians, Boba Fett and his gotra, and other key characters around during this time. I can’t really see how any new characters would work as replacements for the OT crew anyway... Ahsoka’s undergoing a personal journey, whereas Luke would be attempting to rebuild the Jedi Order and researching history of his family, the Jedi, the Republic, the Sith, etc. Din helping Bo-Katan rebuild Mandalore has absolute no similarity to Han and Chewie serving the New Republic and occasionally getting involved with old smuggling debts. Maybe you could compare Bo-Katan and Leia both being leaders, but they lead co pletely different factions, the New Republic and the Mandalorians, both of which are already a part of the storyline, and both serve completely different purposes. I feel the only replacement you’d have is Baylan replacing Jorrus C’Baoth, but even then, their roles seem to be quite different.
This is like legal plagiarism. KK literally said,"We're not Marvel. We don't have years and years of source material. We just have passionate storytellers." Well these storytellers keep digging up the old source material and reworking it instead of actually writing something new. This is fuckin lazy.
Got to be honest, I would rather just see faithful adaptations of legends via animation or something. That way we can still get visuals for those stories while Disney does their own thing.
@@jarjarjargon to be honest, we'd accept new characters if they moved Star Wars 50-100 years into the future. They can show a few nods to Luke, Han, and Leia show how they were impactful in this universe, while also being open and able to tell new difference stories. It's not hard to write Star Wars or any IP if the people writing it actually care about the IP.
My fear is that Thrawn will be a sub-casted character and not given his true shine in Hollywood/Disney lights because they will focus on other characters and the masses that haven't read the books will feel Thrawn is just 'meh". Personal opinion keep the movie the same as the book. However, your analysis and rewrite will probably be what they will do. I hope they don't screw this movie up.
I still can't believe Rangers of the New Republic was scrapped. I keep thinking they're going to need that piece of the puzzle. I guess we'll just get bits and pieces of it in the existing shows?
Well, we already got some of those Rangers story-beats in Mando S3, because I think Favreau was forced to rework Cara Dune's investigating part, into that Carson Tavar dude. Reason why I believe this is the case because it just doesn't make sense how easily he was able to find Mando and the others, on that rocky mountain planet with all the big monsters Also I heard a rumor that Favreau was looking to introduce a recast younger Leia in his Rangers series, and Cara Dune would have met Leia and the two would become good friends, mourning their people with the destruction of Alderaan.
@@RaikenXion It's possible we could still get a deep faked Leia, Han, and Luke as prominent side characters. I don't think they would reintroduce Luke back into this part of the time line if they weren't going to use him again later on having him already become familiar with some of the characters.
I mean, realistically speaking, most of the original trilogy actors are either too old or gone, so you won’t be able to do the Thrawn storyline with them set five years after ROTJ in live action. Still, it’s hard seeing this retelling as the canon version considering the original EU that has been around for over 30 years. It will always be an alternate universe adaptation for me. In the end, I’ve pretty much lost passion in anything set in the same continuity as the Sequel trilogy.
While my preference would be to just recast the OT trio and keep the story faithful, Disney has been adamant about not recasting as they view Solo as a mistake.
@@jarjarjargon well if they were to recast, they would need to handle it well. Cast an actor with a similar personality, voice and height to the original character, and place a deepfake over them. Remember, on-screen content is supposed to be an accurate representation of the canonical events. If Luke Skywalker doesn’t look like Luke Skywalker, it essentially breaks continuity and completely destroys the immersion element of it.
It Will be interesting to see if the Noghri play any part in this. Rebels of course had Rukh but he is now dead which leaves a very big hole in a very pivotal part of the plot of the original trilogy. Do you think that part of the plot has to happen or do you think they may take things with Thrawn himself in a different direction where perhaps he is maybe dealing with the threats out in the Unknown regions at the time of the sequel triogy?
Yeah I don't really see the Noghri playing a big role, if any in the Disney adaptation. Mainly because, like you said, Rukh is already dead, and including that plot thread would basically allow us to know how the heros are going to defeat thrawn. He died at the hands of them due to his ignorance in the original TT.
@@jarjarjargon I always disliked that plot point in the original trilogy that Thrawn didnt realise that Rukh and the Noghri had betrayed him. I kinda get why Zahn did it because basically assassination was the only way to defeat Thrawn as he could not be beaten in battle and even though things had turned against him slightly at the Battle of Bilbringi with the intervention of the smugglers who were there unbeknownst to Thrawn I do think the Empire would have won that battle destroying most of the Republic fleet. The problem I have with his assassination is in Outbound flight Thrawn is 20 steps ahead of everyone, Vaagari, Car'das, Dorianna, the trade federation even his own people the Chiss. He rightly judged Dorianna would not kill him but had a shield in place to stop Kav. I just dont see how Thrawn wouldnt see Rukh's betrayal coming.
@@jimokane9891 Yeah it was a little ridiculous that he turned a blind eye on the Noghri several times during the trilogy even though he knew they were lying. The smugglers were really the biggest wildcard (Wild Karrde) imo but agree that they probably wouldn't have been enough alone. Hopefully Thrawn is still portrayed as extremely brilliant in live-action and they come up with some clever way to end his run.
It feels to me that Dave Filoni his only interested in his characters that he created. Making Heir to the Empire with Ahsoka is lame. Not even sure I want to watch Ahsoka, especially since they did bait and switch with Bo-Katan and Din Djaren, just like they did in Kenobi. I am really tired of Disney screwing with Star Wars just to reinforce or double down on crappy Sequel trilogy.
Excellent Plan resurrecting Heir to the Empire this should have been the Star Wars sequel . trilogy 30 years ago when we still had Carrie and Mark and Harrison were young. great Job Dave and Jon this is the way
IF Filoni is doing this the fans will crucify him, doing this to the classic Thrawn trilogy story is sacrilege. I luv Ahsoka but she absolutely should NOT be replacing Luke's role in the Heir to the Empire stories. Why can't they just think up actual Original stories and adventures for these newer characters!? It's soo hypocritical and a huge disrespect to us fans and ALL those classic Authors of the EU stories (some ofwhich are no longer with us now), to basically make all their novels Non-Canon, but yet Disney are happy to mine them for story-beats and characters that they want to reintroduce into their BS Canon. I'm starting to lose respect for Dave Filoni now, it really feels like he's just stolen Favreau's Mandoverse from him. They were supposed to be working on it *together*. I hate Disney, they deserve everything that's coming to them hopefully when their MCU implodes with that Kang actor controversy, and if their Indy 5 movie does poorly when they kill off Jones. Also I hope starwars Fans boycott the shit out of that Rey movie.
Oh dear, once again Lucas Films may have jumped the gun. Timothy Zahn wrote Heir to the Empire, so, he does have some say in any use of the material that may be used. It still seems that Disney & Lucas Films have not understood what has been going on. Disney are dealing with losses of 7 billion dollars, Lucas Films have had really bad numbers on the Star Wars made under Disney. By the way, Sindula was not involved in any part of Heir to the Empire! And Thrawn had not long returned from the unknown regions. I really hope Dave Filloni doesn't botch this! Oh, and the Force is not Female! (Please check the Clone War animated series to confirm!)
I could see Ezra maybe also having a Luke type role once he is rescued from the unknown regions. Hard to tell whether or not that will actually happen in the first season of Ahsoka though.
Honestly who can look at Filoni and say he’s good for Star Wars?. He was the biggest reason why the old expanded universe completely fell apart in making TCW (Which Lucas had a little involvement with, Filoni has confirmed that). then he cherry picks legends claiming he thinks highly of legends even though he was the one to kill all. Tales of the Jedi didn’t even credit the guy who invented the comic book where they got the name from. Not even a “In loving memory“ rip Tom. Then there’s the fact that Karen Traviss quit because of his stupid bullshit with the Mandalorians. He also worked on the sequel trilogy and was deep in their production.
He fooled many people. No one knows he was involved in sequels' production. And not enough casuals read Legends to know his adaptations suck. People also think Disney killed Legends in 2014 and are not aware how incompatible TCW is with it.
The problem is that Filoni is so idolized by much of the fandom that if concrete, irrefutable evidence that he was actively involved in the sequels were to surface (as opposed to just his vocal cheerleading thereof, which is on record), _it would end up validating the sequels_ in the eyes of many. The sequel trilogy fans already support him because of his endorsement of the films and of Rian Johnson in particular. The fans who insist Filoni is George Lucas' rightful heir would take his active involvement with the sequels as a de facto stamp of approval from Lucas himself. And we've already seen fans increasingly accepting the sequels as canon and arguing that Filoni can and should use the Disney+ shows to bridge the gap between them and the old films, so finding out he was more actively involved with them would do nothing to change their minds. It also doesn't help that on other videos for the Ahsoka show, Filoni fans were making statements like "Ahsoka IS Star Wars" and voicing a desire for the franchise to revolve around her from now on...which is pretty much what Filoni wants. There isn't any real difference between him and Kathleen Kennedy, only that they each want a different woman to supplant and replace Luke Skywalker (Ahsoka for Filoni, Rey Palpatine for Kennedy). When fans keep calling for Filoni to replace Kennedy as head of Lucasfilm, what they're really doing is saying they just want the same Disney *Star Wars* stuff with a different face up front. They're still asking for "The Force is Female" and the scrapping of the classic characters, which leaves us in the same spot we're in now.
😂 You are all horribly misinformed. Filoni had nothing to do with the sequel trilogy. He was present during filming of TLJ only because Rian Johnson was giving him filming and directing pointers for “The Mandalorian” since he had no live action experience. He also said some stuff about the sequels that was taken out of context. Also, the EU WAS NEVER CANON TO STAR WARS. 😂 That seems to be something you guys struggle with. George Lucas said many times that 1-6 are the only canon Star Wars besides his own creations like TCW. Nothing else is canon. That was back in 2005 during an interview and then again back in 2008 when TCW film and series started. Rebels is indeed canon and follows many things Lucas put in. Heir To The Empire is maybe one of the few things Lucas actually considered to make canon even though is isn’t. Now let’s if it are indeed canon thanks to Rebels and now this. Dave Filoni isn’t perfect, but he’s extremely passionate about Star Wars and respects it deeply. Get your information right.
@@IvanKinkle Dave Filoni was involved with TROS. Also no one cares what Lucas thinks about EU, it doesn't give them right to make bastardized versions of those stories and pretend they got rid of EU for "creative freedom."
I am not enthusiastic for this project. I much prefer the fan film that stays true to the Novels by Timothy Zahn. Timothy Zahn's Magnum Opus was the TRUE heir/sequel to Gary Kurtz's Star Wars - George Lucas' Prequel series was an aboination, and his "Return of the Jedi" was an amateur's imitation of Gary Kurtz's genius creation of the original Star Movie (Lucas kicked Kurtz out of his own franchise after Empire Strikes Back, and the creative difference REALLY shows). Lucas has always been a trash "creator", who's only real talent has been stealing the credit for work that others did in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Labyrinth, etc). Really, the only reason why there was a huge Star Wars audience in the 2000s to exploit, was on the back of Kurtz's genius and that of the novel writers like Kevin Anderson, Stackpole, Zahn, etc in the 90s - and Lucas' attempt at Creative Control over the Prequels AGAIN demonstrated to everyone (Lucas is an man-child amateur when it comes to writing and story directing) why Star Wars had grown ONLY when that Creative Control was in the hands of OTHER more talented artists like Kurtz and Zahn..
I mean, why would people bother with Disney version of heir to the empire when people could read the actual book. Disney is just going to take a shit all over the story, like always.
It is going to be a fifty fifty gamble done right you got a good story.. Done wrong, and you are going to get allot of angry fans... To be honest, and in my opinion George Lucas waited too long, he should have jumped on the television series when you had good Science Fiction shows, that have come out like Babylon 5, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, and Farscape.... Then you had a weird, but interesting science fiction show, that came out called the Lex... It is hard when you waited too long, and the actors reached a certain age where they can't do it anymore, and you get these new actors, that may or may not have the same charisma, as the original actors which hardens the playing field of making a good movie.. I guess only time will tell, and the fans are going to either like it, or hate it... " May the Force be with You " " This is the Way ! " P.S. I am surprised, that you didn't mention anything about Ezra Bridger, Zeb or Sabine Wren..
Another trash movie. Lets take a story about Luke, Han, and Leai and put Ashoka in it. Like that makes sense. Wont waste my time or money on this trash.
Yeah, I'm calling bullshit. The only fitting "replacement" is Lando's. The rest are very tenuous, and by the time you claim Mara Jade's is a Dark Jedi it's obvious you haven't paid any attention to Filoni's material, are just grasping at straws to whip up outrage, or define Legends characters through the loosest of criteria. Okay so you're pissed off at Filoni for not abiding by Legends? Then maybe try to stick to that position.
I mean, if you read the pre-HTTE books from zahn, like Allegiance, you will see that she was a dark Jedi at one time. There will supposedly be a time jump in Ahsoka so we’ll see where she ends up. And I’m not pissed at filoni for not adding every legends character, I literally say in the video that I’m on board with most of these swaps as they make more sense in current canon.

Anyway, I wouldn't put it past Disney to have the same Mara & Luke dynamic/sexual tension with Shin & Ahsoka these days. Not counting on it, but wouldn't be surprised given their track record.
I just don’t understand how you don’t involve Han Luke and leia in anything post empire.
I know, I'm sure it's because of the deepfake tech. Hopefully they give us some animated series or something that follows them post ROTJ.
Boba Fett replacing Card makes literally zero sense they've made it very clear that Grandpa Boba is a good guy now Talon Card played both sides until he couldn't ant longer
Heir to the empire adaptation is already started in Star Wars rebels
I don't think they're dropping the OG trio entirely. I do think we see some CGI portrayals of them. Also feel like they will add in Hondo Ohnaka to split duties with boba fett in the Karrde role.
Han and Lando have been recast already, if they let the Solo recasts stand. Luke and Leia have to be recast at some point, which would be a challenge.
But I don’t think this will be a retelling of Heir to the Empire. Maybe a lead in to it for an eventual release.
But if Mara Jade appears at some point I’ll be happy.
The fact is the retelling of heir to the empire started with season 3 and 4 of rebels
Actually saw someone make an image of Stan Winston as slightly older Luke and I think it works
Hammil wants Sebastian Stan to take over
They need to bring Luke, Leia, Han and Lando back to the forefront somehow. Their absence feels really strange. Maybe even through an animated show. But having them so sidelined is not good. Especially if we only really get them again in the garbage sequels, where their characters have a been ruined
Even do Luke, Han, Leia, & Wedge are Alive in that Era, Their Presents is shrunken down like Finn's Face in that Chinese Poster.

Erm huh? Goodbye 👋
The illiteracy is strong with this one.
Bo Katan must die and Din must die or be exiled (my hope is Din and Grogu are living peaceful lives as krill farmers on a forgotten planet with the romantic hottie woman with mystery blaster skills)
Ashoka must die or be exiled.
I partially agree with you. I do expect Hera and phoenix squadron to show up and help din and bo instead of wedge and the rogues.
I actually think Luke, Han, and Leia are the most important dramatic piece of this film...As i feel that they will serve as everymen in which these filoni characters are explained to the audience watching this movie
So I actually would not be shocked to see if Luke, Han, and Leia ARE the main characters
The question really then becomes, will they recast. I agree that those characters pretty much have to appear. I’m just not sure deepfakes can carry a whole movie.
@@jarjarjargon They need to re cast, it's a necessity
Comment for youtube algorithm. Cool channel, will watch rest of movies later :D
Nothing in the Disney heresy can rewrite the canon.
Off topic but I would not mind if Disney brought Darth Krayt back into canon in the new movie that takes place 15 years later after the sequel trilogy but instead of destroying the Jedi order he should absorb it into his Sith order and creating the One Sith
Luke and ashoka should team up
That’s what I’m hoping for! Wouldn’t make sense for Luke to be completely absent.
Why make a Heir to the Empire if it’s not gonna be Heir to the Empire?
This is gonna be Tales of the Jedi all over again.
Seems to be the case from what we've seen in S3
Well, we already got some of those Rangers story-beats in Mando S3, because I think Favreau was forced to rework Cara Dune's investigating part, into that Carson Tavar dude.
Reason why I believe this is the case because it just doesn't make sense how easily he was able to find Mando and the others, on that rocky mountain planet with all the big monsters
Also I heard a rumor that Favreau was looking to introduce a recast younger Leia in his Rangers series, and Cara Dune would have met Leia and the two would become good friends, mourning their people with the destruction of Alderaan.
@@RaikenXion It's possible we could still get a deep faked Leia, Han, and Luke as prominent side characters. I don't think they would reintroduce Luke back into this part of the time line if they weren't going to use him again later on having him already become familiar with some of the characters.
I am honored to be ur 99 subscriber u hitting 100 today my friend
Thanks for subscribing! Looks like I just surpassed 100!
Nice to see a Star Wars chatter account with a positive attitude. Subbed.
I feel the same way for the most part. The OG Thrawn trilogy will always be my favorite Star Wars story outside of the OT.
What I heard it wasnt deepfake or deaging-technology. They used old footage of Harrison Ford and put it into the new footage.
Because that worked so well for leia...
@@timewarpdrive77 🤣
As han they could use the guy from solo
No. Din is going to be killed off. He isn't replacing Han
Star Wars was mostly dead when Lucas sold to Disney. Kennedy killed it.
Its almost like Filoni just steals other stories and passes it off as his own work... like a hack
Almost like he's been doing this shtuff for the past 16 years.... hmmmm
At this rate, we will never get Mara Jade until we go so far beyond the sequel trilogy itself into the far future.
Bleh. I'll stick with the true canon.
500 IQ. Ezra though?
I could see Ezra maybe also having a Luke type role once he is rescued from the unknown regions. Hard to tell whether or not that will actually happen in the first season of Ahsoka though.
@@jarjarjargon probably not, that hologram message that Sabine has is probably just been on repeat for her for a long time.
Filloni's been shoving his garbage OC's into the canon for 16 years and they've been pissin on the grave for (at least) 10 years; nothing new here.
Lol ur a Kathleen Kennedy fan obviously
No thanks Dave
Great thoughts, but I think you’re kinda far off.
Read? There's so many fan adaptations and the offical audiobook; there's zero excuses for going after the disney trash.
" May the Force be with You "
" This is the Way ! "
P.S. I am surprised, that you didn't mention anything about Ezra Bridger, Zeb or Sabine Wren..
50/50? You're optimistic. Disney has no produced a single good piece of proper SW
IF Filoni is doing this the fans will crucify him, doing this to the classic Thrawn trilogy story is sacrilege. I luv Ahsoka but she absolutely should NOT be replacing Luke's role in the Heir to the Empire stories.
