Foreign buyers buy property all over the world. We banned them but that didn’t make a huge difference to the first home buyer market. So let’s just stop the false panic and pearl clutching. What we need is a bigger supply of housing, and an easier consent process (like David Seymour says) to get things moving. Voting TOP won’t achieve that. (Though I like what I’ve seen of Raf Manji). If the high end market gets us some extra revenue it can only help with the bottom line right now. It can always be tweaked later to increase the threshold to maybe $3Mil + which is where I personally think the line should be.

That policy is not as easy to implement as they pretend and there is NO guarantee that savings will go to the end consumer. Grant himself didn't back the policy and their revenue minister resigned his portfolio because Chippy rejected wealth tax, and backed this policy which he didn't support. That policy is not as easy to implement as they pretend and there is NO guarantee that savings will go to the end consumer. Grant himself didn't back the policy and their revenue minister resigned his portfolio because Chippy rejected wealth tax, and backed this policy which he didn't support. He pushed this GST policy against his own minister's advice. Nicola doesn't have to try hard to "poke holes" in it. It's obvious the policy is not worth it.
