Hey guys thanks for discussing my question. I've never actually read daily face-off hahaha I only really listen to lockedonleafs and sdpn but I knew sitting him was an option because I believe the leafs did that to McCabe back in the day and eventually got him to Boston. I agree they shouldn't sit him, that doesn't help anyone in this situation but wanted to hear your thoughts. And when I brought up Vagas I ment it more as Vagas makes decisions on players with the thought of "winning" where as the leafs seem to make their decisions by "doing right by the player" and if u guys think the leafs should change that thought process. U guys are fantastic and keep the content coming hahaha go leafs go

every free agent wants to come to the Leafs - the Leafs are going to need a 200m cap to sign everyone that these experts say are coming to toronto

So Mountour leaving a team that could possibly even repeat their run next year to a team that will likely have to rebuild soon. I'd ask for heaven and earth as salary. And that frankly would just sink the Leafs even deeper into salary swamp. I would think he is asking Ekblad numbers in Florida, so with taxation mind it would be 9M+ for Toronto.

Montour is going to demand minimum 8mil per for 7yrs. Tanev will demand 5.5 mil per for 4years. Sign them both and Leafs still have $ left to get a goalie. Ask MM if LA Kings would be a satisfactory destination. Would Quinton Byfield and Matt Roy be a fair deal for Mitch, idk maybe. If MM is going we can get a decent scoring winger and d man back for him. If they trade him they need a scoring winger back. His production can't be replaced with what's left on team That could reduce the free agent needs. Trade shorty (and very soft) Robertson for a big winger ( there's a sucker out there somewhere) Forget Domi and Bertuzzi. Not enough value there. Just because Domi's Dad was a leaf doesn't mean Max should be. Too much nostalgia for Tie. Get a goalie and Leafs are ready to RUMBLE!!!
The only way the Leafs could even afford a Montour is if Reilly’s 7.5 was off the books.
So, between Tanev and Montour you're talking 13-14 million dollars, Montour is way better than Rielly in every aspect of the game, why would he take 6 when Rielly gets 7.5 and craps the bed almost every game? Tanev is looking for his last contract, he's not taking chump change either. Get rid of Marner and then you might have the room to negotiate, if not, first round and out...very simple. Same old, same old.
Leafs are in on every dman. But don't forget, Canada is now a very undesirable country to live in.
