Take arms out of costume first and vest up from bottom.....genius....why hadn't I thought of that?🤣 Just subscribed having been looking at changing robe comparisons. Thanks Rachel, really sensible, practical advice.
I'm so glad I found you! As a recent sea swimmer (with intentions of going right through the year) I've just got my first dryrobe and although it's massive it still felt hard to get changed in during practise run lol. This is perfect advice, thank you so much
Hi Teya, thanks for watching. I hope it helps you get your technique sorted. They’re nice to stand about in but better when the changing underneath is easy 🏊♀️😜
Similar dry and change quickly routine, Rachel you're on the ball, u have a lovely way of giving tips, thanks for this video, essential clothing only, 100%
Just started swimming at the beach this year and bought a Hiturbo changing robe - has a hood and lots of room. Getting swimming costume off and bottoms on was easy then realised how do I put bra and top on. I walked home with my changing robe on - not a problem. Found your RUclips videos and your brilliant advice regarding how to put a vest on. Just did a trial run with some stretchy singlets I had under the changing robe at home. Brilliant!!!! Meeting the local Bluetits for a swim tomorrow so will be sharing your advice. Thank you so much.
Sam, the first time I tried the best trick I couldn’t believe what a simple and brilliant way it was of dealing with underwear. I’m never without my best in my towfloat! Thanks for watching and enjoy tomorrow’s swim xx
One handy thing I do to get the sand off my feet is to bring a bottle of water with me and rinse them before I put on clothes to avoid all that sand in socks and shoes. Awesome channel and advice!
Great videos and so much appreciated from a novice, gives me lots of confidence that I don't have to go out there and re-invent the wheel, can just dive in! Thank you!
Thanks for watching Kirstie-Ann, I hope you're enjoying getting in and taking in your surroundings! I just love it. I can't look at a stretch of water without thinking about where I'd get in!
Thank you for this video. I'm going to start cold water dipping and this info has really helped me. I've bought the aldi dry robe for £30 and can't wait to get started. thanks 😊
Thanks so much for sharing this . How to change fairly discreetly has been one of life’s mysteries for me 😅. Now, I’m going to grab a vest and get wriggling x
thanks for another great video! Here's a fun one I use with my swimming friends here in the Netherlands. Usually someone brings a little portable speaker and we get some music on for 5 to 10 minutes and have a good jumpy dance around! Though I guess that entails being in a place where no one will complain (usually we're the only ones there).
I like the sound of your post-swim dance party! If ever I'm in the Netherlands, I'll be listening out for the music and looking for the jumping people 🏊😃
Great video, I do almost exactly the same. By trial and error I ditched the knickers and I'd figured a vest from the bottom up was the easy option. (Though I do mine before the trousers then there's less on my hips to get it over, personal preference I guess.) I'm working my way through your videos and enjoying them. Many thanks, Sarah (from a short distance along the coast to the East!)
Oh my days, never thought off stepping into vest, but will now, still trying to balance on 1 leg without falling, and Im also putting clothes to go on first, to the top of the bag.Still doing as much as I can, to improve my swimming, getting wee bit more confidence every time I swim. Thanks for all the tips Rachel x
I'm pleased to hear that your confidence is growingstroke by stroke Elizabeth. It's great to fins something that we enjoy that is pretty cheap to do, isn't it! 🏊😄
@@EverydayAthleteRach actually need your help further; I wear a Wetsuit with boots. No way can I remove Wetsuit keeping the boots on. Delayer fully, stand on a bag, socks then the 3 dry items? 😬
@@seonaidnimmo5290 I'd get the whole lot off in the water as it's the quickest way, or just the boots.Maybe some fleece lined crocs to step into afterwards?
I sort out my extremities first, swim hat off and woolly hat on straight away then dry feet and put fluffy 4 tog socks on, also easier to get your feet through your trouser legs. I find my shivers are prolonged if my clothes are damp from inadequate drying and I wear layers that I can take off and put back on in one e.g. thermal base layer and jogging bottoms together, thermal base layer, long sleeve T together, then zip through sherpa hoodie and coat.
I'm absolutely with you on the socks first! I actually put wellie socks on today, as my Dryrobe needs to be a bit longer so they kept my legs warm, lol! Then thermal longs and vest (which are also a bit wicking so if I'm not properly dry they do the job), then tracksuit bottoms and jumper, then bobble hat. Once at the car I put dry 4 tog socks and trainers / boots on so my feet are fully dry.
Hi Rachel, another great video and good practical tips! Fast dressing - things you can slip on which are not tight - trackie bottoms - sweatshirt or fleece top, thick walking socks and as I'm walking to and from countryside swim spots my walking boot laces are already tied but very loose so I can just slip my feet straight in. I'm inclined to get moving, having changed and just as the after drop begins to hit - muscle use generates heat. Others in my swim group are more inclined to have a chat with two hands clamped around a mug of hot coffee - I'm not sure there is a right answer to dealing with after drop...
Thanks for watching. I tend to use a Chilly's bottle with my hot drink in it and sip it on the way to the car, combining both of the methods you mention. I sit in the car with the heaters on and, I don't drive until I've finished the warm drink to make sure I'm in good shape. 🏊😀
I agree totally regarding not to bother with underwear, it just wastes time. I think I pretty much do the whole dressing thing like you, although I think my dry bobble hat goes on pretty quickly!
My tip is get woolly hat on asap, even over the swim cap until you finish dressing. It really helps. Thermal everything, socks go on first, I personally cant stand wet soggy neoprene boots! Warm fleece lined joggers next, fake ugg boots! Then thermal vest, or 2 maybe! then tbh a big woolly arran jumper is the my lifesaver! Ive tried hoodies galore, and always gone back to the arrans! Massive woolly scarf to stop draft down the neck. Eventually swim cap off, hat back on. I layer up a lot. Some say overkill, I'm just used to it from my day job on tv/movie sets! But thermal everything! Tho that trick of stepping into the tops is ideal! I keep wrestling the arms in! Thank you! Enjoy the swimming! ❤❤❤
+Eithné O'Hanlon I like the bobble hat on top of the swim cap first, will give that a go. I tend to be not so far from my car for most swims, but I agree with you about layering up and thermals. 🏊♀️😀
wool ski socks and first top layer wrapped around my hot water bottle. It is so good to have warmed up under layers. Agree - forget the knickers and bra.
Ah brilliant! Haven't caught up with Phil in person for a little while, travel issues an' all, but it's great to hear he mentioned my channel! Thanks for watching!
@@EverydayAthleteRach update: I used your advice on changing today and it worked brilliantly. Haven't managed to successfully change fully in my Smoc Smoc before and had concluded it was too small but it isn't! I'm visiting Phil this weekend - for his birthday - haven't seen him in person for nearly two years. I'll pass on your bW.
So glad I found this, I been wondering if to invest and then thought it was expensive to just change in as thought maybe if it was wet from drying me off I'd leave it off once changed. Don't know why I've not just asked someone that, but good to see you leave it on. Time for a treat now just to decide which one.
Hi Fiona I’ve made a couple of videos about changing robes so far, I’ve looked at DryRobe, Charlie McLeod, Red, smoc smoc, fourth element in 2 videos which you’ll find if you search my channel and type changing robe
I do the dry swimming costume instead of vest and undies thing. Can put it on with your arms tucked into the dryrobe. Then when you're getting your top on you don't have to worry about flashing people and you can do it quickly. That said I got mine twisted today, had 3 attempts, got cold, gave it up as a bad job and had to walk to the car with my robe fully done up disguising the fact I had my jumper round my neck without my arms through and couldn't work the rest out. My new happy thing is a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel on my feet while I'm doing any upper half faffing.
Ahaha Jayne that jumper mele had me snorting with laughter! Love the hot water bottle tip. Will think of how I can incorporate some HWB action. Glad you got your swim today 🏊♀️😀
My big difference is use a zip up hoodie, damp salty skin is a nightmare for me when I put a top on so I find getting into a zip up hoodie easier than a normal one, and I've just bought some snowboard trousers off eBay for a tenner, what a game changer they are .
@@samanthaemaguire no. I couldn’t seal the tow float up. That is one of the tests I do whenever I test a changing robe. Check out this playlist: all things changing robe ruclips.net/p/PLrBM9GuZgXX6o9Zl_IfPEHQ6HQkR-43WH
Yep, such a helpful vid! The vest is the key plus I have a thermal l/sleeve t shirt which goes on quickly before jumper. When very chilly a pair of marino wool long johns before tracky bottoms! Great tip about the zip too.
😀 flashed my ass on the carpark this morning getting changed fumbling around after my first ever wild swim 🤣😄 a robe would be great for me & the benefit of the other carpark users hey!! 😇😊 Thanks for all your informative fun vids Rachel 🏊🏊🏊♥️
An arse flash is part of outdoor swimming. I do find changing under a robe easier though for keeping the wind off, I've tried holding the corners of the towel in my mouth, and seem able to do so right up to the point I'm starkers underneath then the towelling makes me gag and I end up with a full flash! 🏊😃
Thank you, you are so sweet to share your experience with these helpful tips. I am 76 years old lady and I love to swim in winter time, in the Tyrrhenian Sea (Liguria, Italy) with my lifeguard dog. I use the same method but after I get dressed, I no longer wear the wet bathrobe... I put on the down jacket with the hood and put on a windproof jacket, then I put on a wool hat and the down hood and the windproof hood. My weak point are my feet that I dry with difficulty and then put on socks and shoes. I will follow your advice, because they are fine in the water but then during the day, even when the house is heated, my feet are cold for many hours. Maybe can I put a heating cream to reactivate circulation and do foot exercises? Sorry for the language mistakes. 😊
Hi Luisella, no need to apologise for your English, it's great! I love that you swim with your dog.Sounds like you have a good method of staying warm. I made a video about how to warm up your feet up after which you might enjoy: ruclips.net/video/xpmRPOdfCvY/видео.html
Changing robes are brilliant, so easy to use, once you have the knack! The all weather ones are warm and cosy too, the summer ones are light-weight and don't take up much space.
i've invested in a folding bucket and am going to bring a flask of warm water so I can stand in it as well as defrost my hands, local sea swimmers have said this is a game changer, to stand in warm water whilst getting changed, but I like the 'keep your boots on ida too :)
I prefer to let my body warm itself up, it has a system that I help by insulating myself from further heat loss then by having a warm drink to 'fuel' the shivers. I hope you find a method which works for you. In fact, when I get back and am at my desk, I'm quite often in a sleeping bag under the desk that no one on Zoom can see!
A fellow Bluetit shared your link and I am hooked. My first winter of cold water swimming will defo be watching many more of youtube channels videos. Oh and the step into the vest was shared with me by a lovely lady after my first swims last Nov, it's work s like a dream .👍 🐬🌊
This is so helpful! I knew I was doing a lot of faffing, and getting colder and colder all the while... I really appreciate all your tips - step into a vest and take shoes off last! 😁
I get weird sticky hands after being in salt water so now put 2 small bin liners over my hands which lets me dive into a wool sweater. I take a bottle of warm water to rinse my feet. Another thing I do (not related to dressing) is I leave a hi viz bag with my red bike light flashing so I can see at a glance where my datum point is.
Top tips thank you 👍🏻. Could you have your arms inside, then drop your hands into the bag to pick up your clothing one at a time. Saves putting your arms in and out of the sleeves? 🤷🏼♂️
Guess it depends how far to car and how far from home! I tend to just pull on tracksuit bottoms socks and hat then bolt for car and heated seats for short drive home
Hi Rachel, I'm pleased to hear that little gem of a technique worked for you. It revolutionised my changing experience! It's great when something works and you don't have the worry of struggling into clothes to worry about 🏊😀
Some good tips here, thanks. After years of umming and aahing I finally bought a Red Pro Change Robe but primarly to put on after mountain biking in winter instead of my towelling "skirt" to keep mud off the car seats. Today was the first day that I used it at Harlyn Bay after my first bellyboarding session in 55years (moved on to bodyboarding) and of course you don't wear a wetsuit for bellyboarding do you? Lesson learned: take a towel to dry off before putting on the robe as the fur doesn't stick to you arms and it should keep you warmer as the fur remains dry. Being a male it is a lot easier to get changed in the robe but wouldn't it be easier for you not to put your arms in the sleeves in the first place instead of in and out every few manoeuvers? You have then put your arms in the sleeves when you've finished.
With the arms in and out game, most changing robes have a little morse under arm space than the Red, so it's a bit easier and some dry you sufficiently to get clothes on without the need for a towel - you might find that after a few uses the Red becomes less 'sticky' inside 🏊😀
I use a onesie as it is all in one. Although as the temp is dropping I may need to go back to trousers as the wind is cutting through them. I would argue that the swim hat needs to come off first and swap for a bobble hat straight away. Swim hat comes off with the goggles as I am walking back to my stuff - once a triathlete always a triathlete.
The triathlete habits must be strong. Even if you wanted to leave the swim hat, on because it's easier to pull things on over your head than with a bobble hat, I don't think you could 😆. Maybe a thicker onesie, like the one made by Lomo Watersports as a drysuit undersuit could be the wat forward? 🏊😄
This is really helpful thanks Rachel - I got a lovely SmocSmoc robe a few weeks ago (early Christmas present) but I have been struggling - the 2 key tips for me were getting arms out of swimsuit before putting it on and just having a vest to step into - think these will be a game-changer when I can get back in the water - thank you!
I've been considering getting a dryrobe but I'm struggling to understand what they do. So, when you put it on over your wet body and get changed inside. Isnt it all wet inside the dryrobe then? In my head, I think I'll be wearing a wet jacket over my dry clothes. Can someone help me understand ? 😩
Hi Jillian, I never use a towel underneath and the robe doesn't hold that much damp. I think the conctruction of the fibres mean the water doesn't sit on the tips. Changing robes don't get all damp like a towel does after a shower. I've never ended up with damp clothes after wearing the changing robe over them. Just to make sure though, once I get home I hang my robe up on the coat hook by the door to air and dry off. The only time they get really wet is if you drop them, or if the inner gets rained on or something (or if you put it in a washing machine, which you only do extremely rarely).
@@EverydayAthleteRach Thanks so much. That makes things so much clearer. I think I will invest in one after Christmas has passed. I'll need to save up 🙂
Just joined a swim group and the group all have these fancy changing robes and been wondering if I could buy a cheaper version or just a toweling one but after watching this post realise one would be essential for regular swims. Its often windy isn't it at the coast. Thanks for that.
Hi Lynda, in the warmer months a towelling robe will do yoiu just fine. A large waterproof jacket will work as a windcheater, so you don't have to splash out right away. Take a look at this playlist for some ideas: all things changing robe: ruclips.net/p/PLrBM9GuZgXX6o9Zl_IfPEHQ6HQkR-43WH Enjoy the water 🏊😃
You are the best and I love your videos! I haven't been wearing my toque in because I like to dip under but its the first thing to go on once I hop out! I usually just lay out a blanket towel down prior to getting in and once I am out I strip down with a towel over my shoulders (if there's people around) and once I get my top on with my sweater I take my booties off and throw my sweats on while standing on the blanket towel, socks on, then boots on!. Then I walk back to the car and turn the heat on and drink hot tea!
Another Mr Benn video & I'm sure the music helps 🤗 I promised myself a Dryrobe if I continue swimming through November ( my 2nd Nov dip today) weighing up whether to actually get one as they're not cheap and currently I manage without ( luckily I live across the road from the sea) ☺️
Hi Teresa, there are many alternatives that seems to offer similar levels of protection from the elements. I'm planning a video which addresses just that in a couple of weeks, so hold off on shopping until then, if you can 🏊♀️😀
When I first got one I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. It seemed awkward to use and claustrophobic - I wanted to save other people from the heavy weight in the stomach of having wasted their money! 🏊♀️😀
I noticed you put your pants on first. Wouldn’t it make more sense to get your core covered right away? Also, does it make sense to leave your cap on or switch right away to a woolly cap? I agree though that time is of the essence ......especially in temps that you swim in :)
Hi Pat, I put the bottom half on first as my top half is toasty warm under the changing robe. I switch the hat last as I have a very warm hood on over the swim cap etc.. The wooly hat also gets in the way when I'm trying to put my top on too!
I posted my bike light suggestion.. well the other day I went in and didn’t use the bike light. The sun was low and was behind the beach, so when I looked back I couldn’t see my bag! Given it was zero degrees and windy, I instantly panicked and got out. I got quite close to my bag before I found it - even though the bag is also hi-viz.. i am never going in without my bike light again!! How do others manage??
Brilliant - thanks Rach. I've been fighting with my dryrobe since I had it for Christmas! Any tips for getting a wetsuit off underneath it would be appreciated 😂
Oh no! Fighting a wetsuit is an extremely tiring activity, I don't take mine off under the changing robe, here's how I do it: ruclips.net/video/XyKZ-4w3oQE/видео.html
Came across your videos when I was trying to find changing robe reviews, then saw this one too and had to subscribe! Thanks for all of these tips as we surprisingly don’t have a lot of the cool gear here in small town Sweden. So thanks for the videos =) Angelica In Värmland
Tack så mycket för din ‘sub’ Angelica! Jag är rätt glad att du tyckte om filmerna What are the temperatures like for swimming in Värmland just nu? 😜🏊♀️
I got a dryrobe for xmas and have to say it is too much faff for me, was used to getting dressed fast the old fashioned way just a bath sheet round me. I still do just use the robe after like a coat.
For me it was about needs-must when I was training in all weathers and having to get dressed where there was little shelter from the wind. They do make great hanging-about and chatting coats though! 🏊😃
Hi, thanks for the video. Just starting my open water swimming so doing some research first before buying a changing robe. Is it possible to change from a wetsuit under one of these as that is what I swim in. Is it possible? I can't find a video of anyone showing how. I generally don't wear a swim suit underneath as I thought it would just be extra washing to do.
Getting a wetsuit off under one would be quite a fight. I always taken mine off in the water as it peels off like a banana skin and is well worth the short term sharp intake of breath when the cold water hits my skin versus fighting the wetsuit and having a tiring experience on land.
Hey. I noticed you're using the Dryrobe in this video. In a previous video, you recommend the Smoc Smoc over the Dryrobe...have you changed your mind after a few months of use? Only asking because I'm looking at buying a changing robe soon. There's a lot of choice out there. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Hi Matt, I filmed this video about a year ago and have in the meantime switched to using the smoc smoc and the fourth element storm poncho, both of which I really like beacuse are softer on the inside and less bulky but provide the same changing space. Depending on your size, Lomo do a one-size one which is probably about a medium size in the other robes, gorilla robes are new to the market and offer a waterproof long-sleeved changing robe for just under £90 - I haven't got my hands on one yet, but they look promising on the website.
@@EverydayAthleteRach Thanks for this! Have just checked out the Storm Poncho (not heard of it before) - love the fact that not only does it appear to be top-notch, but it has good eco-credentials too...now I've just gotta wait until they are back in stock :(
Thanks Rachel! I'm a new subscriber and enjoying watching your back catalogue for tips as I start out with open water swimming. Can I ask what size bag you're using? I want an inflatable dry bag to swim with, just can't decide whether to go for the large 35litre or the extra large 50litre.
Hi Gordon, welcome along. Thanks for subscribing. The bag in this video is a Lomo 60 L Dry Bag Rucksack which has removable straps and there's a link to it in the description. I did a video recently where I tested it as a towfloat. I often use a 28L Zone 3 tow buoy though (I have a yellow one and a pink one which feature in lots of my videos). 35L should be fine, unless you want to put a changing robe in it, as well as anything else, then you would need the bigger one. I got the 60L one as I want to do some swim wild camping.
Hi and thanks for subscribing. The pink and yellow ones are Xone 3 tow floats which are both 28L I think. The Lomo one which I reviewed in November is a dry bag rucksack that is 60 L. My dry robe does not fit well in the smaller bags but if easy to chuck into the large one. It depends what you want to take with you. I don’t leave things on the beach, so I always take my stuff with.
Thanks so much for your wonderful videos! I read in one comment that you mostly use SmocSmoc or Fourth Element as they pack down smaller. How do you get along with the Storm Poncho from Forth Element not having any Zipper? Was wondering as you cannot do the trick you show in this video to put in a jumper over your head. Thaaaaaank youuuuu!
I'd just remove the poncho momentarily to put the jumper on over my head. The storm poncho is the only changing robe I've tried so far which has a waterproof rating similar to ski and snowboard clothes. It is not as was as others but space for so much clothing underneath!
Are there any truly spacious dry robes? I’ve tried a few and there just wasn’t enough room to get changed underneath and I’m not keen to invest in my own
It’s more about having a technique for getting dressed than the actual room. There are quite a few for sale second hand on Facebook market place so no need to invest too much.
+Volp thanks for watching! Cake, hot choc and answering passers-by marvelling at your feat of daring and asking what the temperature is is tempting. But getting clobber on is critical. Filling our bellies and jibber-jabbering with the locals is all important but comes second for me 🏊♀️😀
Bumbly hands fumbling around? Can't help but think of Boris :D Lol! Great video good tips I guess us guys have it a bit easier as its easier to take off shorts or trunks than a woman's cossie whether one piece or bikini. As you say every second counts in that situation. You look so snug at the end - must be a superb feeling :)
@@EverydayAthleteRach You rock your own fashion, Girl! :) Totally super yes. I love in equal measures wearing a wooly jumper joggers and thick socks in winter and light t shirt light shorts and barefoot in the summer. Both blissful. It's Autumn and Spring that are the tricky ones :D
I just found your video today when a dry robe was suggested for me to use after swimming - no locker room use for me with covid on the rise. Are you wearing dryrobe brand??? I’m not sure what to buy here in the US. I loved your video; it’s beautiful there!
Hi Carey, welcome along! In this video I'm wearing a dryrobe, but I have done a few comparison videos and looked at smoc smoc, charlie mcleod, red, moonwrap fourth element and lomo all of which were great. If you go to my channel and type 'changing robe' it should come up with them all. I routinely use either the Fourth Element Storm Poncho, or the smoc smoc, either of which compact down into my tow float so I can take them with me on one way swims, or just keep them safe rather than leave a changing robe on the beach.
Love this video! I use a swim feral bag, as it has an integrated changing mat that means I can take my boots off and not be on the wet cold ground and mud. It makes it a great way to set out my clothes ready to step into, and I usually layer my vest on top of my leggings and sweatpants so I just do one step in, and then its just a case of arms into the dry robe and pull it all up, then feet into fluffy socks, fluffy crocs, and then back to the car for a cup of tea!
No, surprisingly not, possibly due to the thick pile of the fleece on the dryrobe. When I get home I hang the changing robe inside out on a door and it's ready for action again before I am!
My only tip would be to do it quickly and I use fingerless gloves which just have a separate thumb hole and then a tube for all of my fingers. I find this type the easiest and you still have finger dexterity. Nice if it has a flip over mitten to warm your fingertips too.
Doesn’t the dry robe alone keep you warm enough to get to the car and out of the wind? Also, I saw on another video you said that your Smoc Smoc fitted in your 30l bag as it compresses smaller than a Dry Robe - did you fit that Dry Robe in that float/dry bag and use it to swim? Xx
Yes, it can do depending on the distance to the car, but in the winter it is better to get dressed. The point of the video was to show a method of how to changing inside a changing robe as the first time I tried it it wasn't at all obvious and was more difficult than I'd expected, having paid so much for the robe!
Hi Rachel. Great video, thank you. Need to find myself a stretchy vest top! Can I just ask please what size your flat/dry bag is in order to fit your dryrobe? Thanks
Hi Debbie, the bag in this video is the Lomo 60 Dry Bag Rucksack. I converted it into a kind of towfloat on my first time of using it here: ruclips.net/video/zxt6hPHdtOg/видео.html

Now I know how to get my top part on.... step into it! Thanks Rach! I just got my robe and had given up putting a vest on...... You are brilliant!
Getting changed after a swim is an art form. You can do it!
Hi Sarah, thanks for watching. Good to hear from a fellow vest-stepper! If you think of a topic I could cover I’m always open to ideas 🏊♀️😀
really helpful, I've been struggling trying to put a sweatshirt on under my changing robe, but the vest idea is genius! Thanks for sharing
Brilliant! So glad it helped. They are super bits of kit but not as obvious to change under as the term ‘changing robe’ would suggest!
Brilliant, been doing this 2 years and never once felt I had conquered the change post swim. Cannot wait to try this out. You legend 🏊♀️
Hey Seonaid I’d love to hear how you get on 🏊♀️😀
@@EverydayAthleteRach actually need your help further; I wear a Wetsuit with boots.
So practical. thank you. Everything you say makes sense! The changing robe comparisons are also very helpful too. Thank you
You’re welcome. Glad they were useful!
If you're on a sandy beach, you can stand in one of those huge IKEA shopping bags while you change. Thanks for the video!
Great idea! Sand is a pain when getting dressed, or eating!
Sounds like you have a good system there Tammy 🏊😀
What's are "fluffly 4 tog socks". asks an ignorant American who's websearch didn't turn up anything useful.
Sounds like we are from the same mould Jane!
Brilliant, so helpful. Thank you. Changing will now be so much easier 😊
Glad it was helpful! Good luck!
wool ski socks and first top layer wrapped around my hot water bottle. It is so good to have warmed up under layers. Agree - forget the knickers and bra.
Hottie in your clothes is a great tip. I’m just rarely organised enough to manage it! 🏊♀️😀
I love your videos. My brother Phil Godwin (Oceanpro) recommended your channel to me. So many useful tips and helpful advice. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this. I'm new to open water swimming and this has been so helpful 😊
Dry swimming costume … great idea!!! 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your tips. I’m going for my first swim this weekend 😮
Have a brilliant time and get changed quickly afterwards!
My big difference is use a zip up hoodie, damp salty skin is a nightmare for me when I put a top on so I find getting into a zip up hoodie easier than a normal one, and I've just bought some snowboard trousers off eBay for a tenner, what a game changer they are .
A zip up hoodie is a greatbit of kit, I need a thinner one to fit it in my towfloat! Snowboard trouser tho - warm as toast! Yeehaa! 🏊😄
@@EverydayAthleteRach did you fit that huge Dry Robe in that 30l float though? X
Hi Alison, sounds like you must be snug as a bug in a rug with those merino long johns. Glad you found the zip tip helpful 🏊😃
@@EverydayAthleteRach 😀 Tried your blowing in the lomo gloves to remove them after the swim to be a great tip! 💦🏊♥️
I think we all need this vest . It's really so practice 👍🏻💯 thank you for all this effort 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I'd be driving home naked with the dryrobe on and get changed at home!!! LOL
I did that the other day!
I've thought and imagend about it, because it would be great and so much less hassle...but on a bike its far from pleasant ;) ;)
Exactly what I do 😂
@@bungygumdrop Makes perfect sense. No hassle. x

A fellow Bluetit shared your link and I am hooked. My first winter of cold water swimming will defo be watching many more of youtube channels videos. Oh and the step into the vest was shared with me by a lovely lady after my first swims last Nov, it's work s like a dream .👍 🐬🌊
Ah, that's lovely to hear. I'm pleased that you're enjoying the videos. Keep on swimming 🏊♀️😀
This is so helpful! I knew I was doing a lot of faffing, and getting colder and colder all the while... I really appreciate all your tips - step into a vest and take shoes off last! 😁
You're so welcome! Good luck with the speed-change! Stay warm and enjoy apres-swim hot drinks by the water 🏊😄
A small microfibre towel in the inside pocket just for a little extra drying :)
Good idea!
Sounds like you have a good system there. The bags on the arms work a treat. 🏊😃
Thank you for this video + you have such a kind manner!
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 🏊♀️😀

Awesome, thank you!
You solved the mystery, thank you ❤
Top tips thank you 👍🏻.
Could you have your arms inside, then drop your hands into the bag to pick up your clothing one at a time. Saves putting your arms in and out of the sleeves? 🤷🏼♂️
Anything goes. Whatever works best for you 🏊♀️😀
Guess it depends how far to car and how far from home! I tend to just pull on tracksuit bottoms socks and hat then bolt for car and heated seats for short drive home
That’s the way to do it!!
Stepping into a vest, game changer! I've really struggled with getting changed, this morning was my quickest change time thanks to your video.
Hi Rachel, I'm pleased to hear that little gem of a technique worked for you. It revolutionised my changing experience! It's great when something works and you don't have the worry of struggling into clothes to worry about 🏊😀
I have some bralettes (M&S) that I can step into rather than faffing around doing up a normal bra.
Stepping into your vest - brilliant tip which I’m definitely going to try!
It has been a game-changer for me. Hope it works well for you too!

Hey Samantha, what a lovely early Christmas present! Once you get the hang of how to use it, you won't look back. 🏊😄
Take a look at this playlist for some ideas: all things changing robe: ruclips.net/p/PLrBM9GuZgXX6o9Zl_IfPEHQ6HQkR-43WH

Great. Once you have the knack down, you’ll wonder how you ever winter swam without one!
Thank you so much for this video. I'm new to sea swimming and have been wondering how these robes work.
When I first got one I couldn’t see what all the fuss was about. It seemed awkward to use and claustrophobic - I wanted to save other people from the heavy weight in the stomach of having wasted their money! 🏊♀️😀
My tip is a zip hoodie rather then a jumper or hoodie you pull over your head. I find it much easier on get on.
+Louisa Bell absolutely bang on. I need to get another zip top!
The wooly hat also gets in the way when I'm trying to put my top on too!
my top half takes longer to dry so I get the legs on first, then have a "robe hug" to dry my chest off before putting on my vest :)

Everyday Athlete Rach it was around 3c when I was in a week ago in Lake Vänern, colder in my local lake but they didn’t have a gauge. =)
Have just checked out the Storm Poncho (not heard of it before) - love the fact that not only does it appear to be top-notch, but it has good eco-credentials too...now I've just gotta wait until they are back in stock :(
Hi. Do you reckon going for a L/XL robe would provide more space when getting changed? Thanks
It will defo be bigger but I’d go with the manufacturer’s recommendation 🏊♀️😀
I don’t leave things on the beach, so I always take my stuff with.
wow. Never heard of this. Are these bags for bringing your clothes etc in the water ?
Great tips like always! "your body covered as soon as possible" ok..

Totally super yes.
Everyday Athlete Rach thanks so much for the reply! I’m off to watch your robe videos 🙂
No underwear! Of course! Makes it so much easier. Thanks for the tips 😁
Such a time and faff saver!
I like the cut of your jib! Top changing arranging action! I’ve never had a go with a swim feral bag but I like their ethos and the kit looks great.
Is it not all wet after drying yourself? I have to use a towel robe to dry and get dressed, then put the DR on for the walk back to the car!
No, surprisingly not, possibly due to the thick pile of the fleece on the dryrobe. When I get home I hang the changing robe inside out on a door and it's ready for action again before I am!
Any tips on how to put warm gloves on to cold hands after changing?
My only tip would be to do it quickly and I use fingerless gloves which just have a separate thumb hole and then a tube for all of my fingers. I find this type the easiest and you still have finger dexterity. Nice if it has a flip over mitten to warm your fingertips too.
Don’t you cool down, or get wet clothes, when you keep wearing the damp (in the inside from rubbing dry)dryrobe?
No it doesn’t hold the water like cotton does. I find it fine.
Do the boots and swim shoes not get the trousers wet?
Barely. Not enough to bother me 😀
Doesn’t the dry robe alone keep you warm enough to get to the car and out of the wind? Also, I saw on another video you said that your Smoc Smoc fitted in your 30l bag as it compresses smaller than a Dry Robe - did you fit that Dry Robe in that float/dry bag and use it to swim? Xx
Yes, it can do depending on the distance to the car, but in the winter it is better to get dressed. The point of the video was to show a method of how to changing inside a changing robe as the first time I tried it it wasn't at all obvious and was more difficult than I'd expected, having paid so much for the robe!
Any tips on getting the wetsuit off with jelly fingers?
Hi Rachel, which video of yours is it where you show how to pack a dryrobe tightly to pack into a suitcase?
The only tight packing I did was putting them into a a towfloat. Which is in the video where I compare dryrobe / red / Charlie McLeod / smocsmoc
@@EverydayAthleteRach Thank you!!
@@EverydayAthleteRach I was sure I had seen a video of someone folding up a robe tightly and then into the hood for packing....maybe I am dreaming LOL
@@EverydayAthleteRach I have figured it out now. Works pretty good 😁👍
Fab thanks so much
Mine is 28l ;)
Appreciate your help 🐶🐩👍🏴🏊♀️
