For those unaware about Ryder's turn at the end of Act 1, the voice actor allegedly complained he wasn't being paid enough and ditched the game. Subsequently, Rockstar overcame this by having Ryder appear in the Green Sabre cutscene, but not even be acknowledged at all, and his last appearance being the mission where you kill him. In that mission, all his dialogue is reused from earlier and even modified to sound a bit different. They phoned Ryder's betrayal in because it was all they had to go with. Although it runs strangely parallel to Eazy-E's betrayal of NWA, of which Ryder was based on. The voice actor himself was a rapper for Compton's Most Wanted.
He is smarter than everyone. He knows that his connection to the main character gives him great plot armor so he can do pretty much anything. He is taking advantage
Their chemistry, and this mission that actually ended up helping Grove Street by arming up with better weapons, really sells that Ryder wasn’t planned to be a traitor (only forced to because of some issue with his VA). They honestly should’ve gone with a more tragic route by having Big Smoke revealed to be the traitor by killing Ryder.
Especially since CJ always mentions Smoke's betrayal and never even mentions Ryder, as if he was never there. Kendl never even mentions him considering what Cesar said Ryder "attempted".
Because Ryder genuinely cared for CJ he felt betrayed when he left and when he came back, (I’ve started to piece it together) he always dropped reference to CJ leaving or why he came back or when he’d leave again I think he was dropping hints to him to get out because he didn’t want him killed or imprisoned like what happened to Sweet.
The first missions are really something. Getting back in hometown, hanging with your family and buddies, making small business here and there. And then sh1t hits the fan. Just like in real life.
Another 10 years this video will have millions of views and you will find the comments section filled with people saying that RUclips recommended this after 18 years
