How to install Lineage OS 17.1 - Android 10 Q on Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

So, the wait for Android 10, Lineage OS 17.1 is finally over!!
This video, I’ll show you guys how to install Lineage OS 17.1 on your Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 (SM-T810) and can be used for other similar devices.
I'll also be making a review video sometime soon, so stay tuned as well!!
HERES IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DOWNLOAD!!
Sometimes you may need to download and install Samsung USB Drivers.
1. Odin v3.14.1
2. TWRP Recovery img.tar v3.4.0
3. Latest Lineage OS specifically for your device
4. Google Apps, ARM, 10.0, NANO

Steps in general:
1. Download the 4 files as said in the video.
2. Enable USB Debugging if you haven’t already.
3. Flash TWRP recovery onto the device via Odin, by booting your device into "Download Mode" (Power Button & Volume Down & Home Button).
4. Reboot, and Copy Lineage OS and Google apps files onto the device.
5. Boot into "Recovery Mode" (Power Button & Volume Up & Home Button).
6. Backup using TWRP to SD card/internal storage
7. Wipe, factory reset,
8. Flash Lineage OS first
9. Install Google Apps
10. Reboot the device.
11. Wait for the system to boot up (which can take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes).
12. Setup your device.
13. Congratulation, you have successfully finished upgrading to Andriod 10 Q, Lineage OS 17.1
14. Enjoy your hard work & efforts with a cup of tea or coffee :)
Please Note:
- Backup your data with TWRP, also copy important data to your computer (TWRP will not backup your internal storage) as formatting your device to Factory setting will erase everything in your internal storage
- This video is based on Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 SM-T810, if you have a different device, the methods or the files will be just slightly differ.
- Samsung KIES will NOT detect your device after installing this ROM since it's a custom firmware.
- Your warranty is now void. Please don’t blame me for hard/soft bricked devices, dead SD cards, thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. But if you ask me anyway, I’ll try my best to help you.

Managed to get it working on my SM-T810.
I had to disable auto-reboot in Odin, so the only difference in steps were after Odin passed were:
Disconnect the tablet.
Press the power and volume down buttons for ~7 seconds.
Immediately press and hold the power, volume up, and home buttons while it's rebooting.
Every procedure after that was the same.

I want to thank you - I have had an old disused Tab S2 still in good nick for ages, and was thinking about throwing it out, even though it had a brilliant display screen. I was having trouble keeping apps running. New lease of life - very much appreciated!!!
For those unable to access TWRP menu, what you should do is
1 Boot into download mode again, make sure "auto reboot" is not enabled in odin and reinstall twrp
2 Once it's finished, you will have to exit download mode and reboot your device by holding "power button + volume down button"
3 as soon as screen goes dark you have to press and hold power button + volume up + home button, be as fast as possible to prevent the normal reboot
4 If you boot into the normal samsung homescreen it means you failed step 3, start again from step 1
The problem you/we are facing is once the device boots normaly it restores the default recovery menu and replace the twrp thing we install on step 1

2. PLUGIN USB
3. ODIN FLASH TWRP
4. REMOVE USB KABEL
5. PRESS POWER BUTTON + POWER UP
6. WAIT TILL SCREEN COMES UP (SAMSUNG....)
7. STOP PRESSING THE BUTTONS ONCE YOU SAW THE SCREEN
8. HAPPYYYYYYYY ENDING :D YYYYYYYYYYYEHAR

Thanks! Worked like a charm, and I finally got a proper dark mode, and GAPPS instead of samsung bloatware.
Just went thru this process on 8-23-2023. . Used all of the latest code except for the version of android - V12 was an option but I stuck with 11. I use linux on my desktop so some extra loops to figure out - but everything worked at the end. Great video!

Very good tutorial. I used this guide to install lineage 18.1 on my SM-T810 and it worked flawlessly. Only thing i had to change was the Odin/Auto-Reboot. Kept it disabled and it worked. Thanks!

Worked for me nice video ! i had also to uncheck auto-restart und go right away in recovery but then it worked flaless with lineageos android 11
This tutorial is fantastic! Still, I got stuck. Can't get TRWP going on my SM-T713. It looks the sotware installed OK but can't get the recovery app going. After trying to booth the device as @ 5:28 I get a software upgrade screen instead of the TWRP screen @5:47. The tablet gets stuck - no wonder! Luckily it is not "bricked" yet! Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks a lot ! I met some issues with another tutorial yesterday ( Google apps package).
In regards to TWRP, if it doesn't boot into TWRP, make sure to disable Auto-Reboot option in ODIN before you flash, and directly boot into recovery mode from download mode. Hope this helps for some people.
Hi. Thanks for the tip. How do you get into recovery mode from the download mode? I turned off the auto reboot option in Odin and it just sits there.

@@drwarner Hold power+vol.down(or up)+home again, then power+vol.up+home before it boots the system
It worked to me! Thx for this advice! It took more time a lot of time than I thought, but In the end, everything was ok! (Samsung T-805)

Hello, i have done exactly as you have. but when booting into Lineage 17.1 i select the language then just gets stuck on "just a sec" screen. any thoughts?

My tab s2 SM-t815y is not booting to twrp recovery idk why it keeps booting to the normal boot option plz help me and are we using rooting in this process?
I have the drivers and the pc does to an extent recognize my S2 TAB, however, it's not being listed in the devices section on the pc, yes I have selected Media transfer as the preferred USB method. rebooted the tablet but no luck. i have rooted it and installed TWRP but can't install the GAPPS

How can I know which file is the one I should choose?. I can't find any reference to find the one that corresponds to my tablet. I already looked for some data with the ending that is in the parentheses and on my tablet I can't find any similar data.

Nice video, but my tab does not boot into teamwin, it just boots into Android recovery with a menu with several options
So you don't have to activate developer mode like i did with my telephone?
And what about the T719Y model? the same procedure?
hi, can I do it on my android Galaxy Tab A (2016): Model Number SM-T-280?
I could not find the model number in the list of devices in TWRP
would I be able to download my google play movies and shows yet? and play cod mobile, minecraft and pubg mobile yet? like does it have official google play support of paid products? most of the android os types I have ever tried before on computer never let me download games and movies onto the device. plus I have a galaxy tab s2 9.7 wifi version as well. thanks.
For those not being able to load TWRP with a "command not found" or something do this:
"I had been turning on the phone after odin did its thing, and that caused the oem recovery to reinstall itself. So instead of letting odin auto boot be ready to push the volume up button to put it into twrp recovery."
This does the trick for me. With auto reboot off you need - after uploading TWRP - to push Power+Down until reboot and then immedietaly switching to Power+Up+Home.
uuh - it did´nt looks difficult, so i try it on my SM-T715 (Tab S2 LTE 8.0) but i´m not be able to run twrp for backup and install. Odin say transfer OK but no reboot on the tablet. Also with deaktivated auto-run same result. Any other ideas? i really like to upgrade from v7 to v10. Other possibilitys without twrp?

I followed your instructions (I have the SM-T715 and have downloaded the gts28ltexx ROM) but when I try the TWRP boot, it will only boot me to a recovery menu with no backup options available. The latest TWRP tar is the
twrp-3.5.0_9-0 so at first I thought I'd try the 3.4.0 you used but still the same problem...
I wouldn't want to proceed without backing up the stock ROM first in case something goes wrong.

So, I just can't TWRP to stick. I have tried removing auto boot option in Odin, but this has made no difference. Is it worth me taking the tablet apart to remove the battery, preventing auto reboot occurring?

In order to follow these instructins to install the custom rom, must you root the tablet before starting? Rooting is not mentioned in the instructions. Thanks.
I follow every step twice. twrp file run smooth with Odin, but when lineage dowloaded is 18.1 not the 17.1 and when I reboot it will take me to android reboot not the twrp and crashes. I have done it twice like I said and I have the same outcome. please help.

Hi, i need help. Follow every procedure till come to flashing the lineage OS where I encounter error 7. Then i can't do anything. I removed the SDcard which I did backup earlier to copy new lineage zip file. Then all my backup gone. What can I do next? HELP~~~!

Any idea where I can find the files for an SM-817A? It's a Galaxy Tab S2 9.7" LTE. None of those pages list that model number though. The closest I see is SM-815.

Hey mate, does it say "lineage OS" everytime you boot? Or can you modify what it says back go stock samsung style. Wanting a clean install so its "factory" fresh. Is this possible?
It reboots after it the twrp logo shows up and. And when I try to run to run recovery again, the device is stuck in the reboot unless I let go the buttons.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 Wifi. DOING THIS TODAY (8/10/23): I did try GAPPS Android 10 - Arm 32 - Nano. That did not work and the screen showed that I needed the Arm 64. Weird but I did install Android 10 - ARM 64 - NANO and it worked. Keep in mind, if the first boot doesn't work ... don't freak out. Hit power + volume down until it restarts. The first boot will not load in all the way. After the second boot (it does take longer than normal ... let it go for like 5 minutes), you should be good to go :)

It seems it has disappeared completely there is no way to find 17.1 for "gts210wifi"
my device can't flash twrp file, odin said flashed but opening the stock recovery. i opened the usb debugging and install usb drivers but can't flash twrp.

Hi Si Thu, such clear steps. Unfortunately it has not worked for my Tab s2, 8.0. I think I followed all the steps, and got as far as running odin, and trying to install twrp. The odin screen showed the tablet was added, then it tried installing twrp, failed and then removed the tablet. Then odin went into a cycle of adding and removing the tablet, but no further installation attempts. I tried this with both auto reboot ticked and unticked. Any ideas anyone? thanks Louise
