I have one of Master Shuey's canes. I have also attended my local dojo for education. I'm 74, having trained when I was a teen in Ed Parker's Kenpo and then a few years of Aikido. The cane is not only a weapon, but it seems to filter out those that target me as a victim. Since I live in a State that prohibits concealed weapons unless I go through a lengthy process of licensing the cane it the next greatest weapon that an "old guy" can carry.

People laugh at me because I carry a cane (I don't really need one to walk, but, it does help with my balance). I carry it because, it is the best weapon I have ever discovered... it is completely legal everywhere, and fairly easy to use effectively.

same here brother. I'm active, workout, run and do all kinds of activities. yet, everyone who knows me, wonder why I'm walking a cane? Or ask if I'm ok, or hurt myself haha. I just tell them, I'm bringing back the classic style. when I heard about this cane martial art, it really opened my eyes how awesome and nonchalant ,unassuming something like a cane can create. have leverage and be a very useful tool for everyday actives and if need be a self defense tool

Same....So simple and effective, and already deployed if and where required.
They are also very effective....It was a cane that saved me from a knife attack a couple of months ago, and I swear by them ever since....

@@raymondsanchez808 I, too, am known for bringing back the old style, as I wear bucket and other old style hats also, but many of my friends also know that I train with my canes also....
A number of them have become fans thereof.....

I agree. I’ve studied Kali and Silat for years. I’m getting older and the cane is just an incredible weapon.

If you have that reach you have knife defense and that's one of the toughest things to have. That good solid oak stick moving at a fast speed you can hit a person anywhere and hurting good like a hand with holding a knife a hand that's not holding a knife whatever it takes you can keep some distance and staying here with that pop pop pop. I haven't seen any realistic person in the hand against knife teaching that says there's much promise to any techniques.

Did martial arts (mainly fma) for years and always wanted to learn how to use a walking cane properly. Have a knee that goes out from time to time these days, and im not even 40 just yet. Definitely need to get into this now before it's too late.

I know a man who did protect his wife and himself from a robbery with his cane. Knocked the knife from the robbers hand.
