Did martial arts (mainly fma) for years and always wanted to learn how to use a walking cane properly. Have a knee that goes out from time to time these days, and im not even 40 just yet. Definitely need to get into this now before it's too late.

I have one of Master Shuey's canes. I have also attended my local dojo for education. I'm 74, having trained when I was a teen in Ed Parker's Kenpo and then a few years of Aikido. The cane is not only a weapon, but it seems to filter out those that target me as a victim. Since I live in a State that prohibits concealed weapons unless I go through a lengthy process of licensing the cane it the next greatest weapon that an "old guy" can carry.

I would recommend to any senior with mobility issues to do leg and hip strengthening exercises.

Your intro and commercials make you guys look silly, but I think Mark Shuey is pretty cool.

GGM Rob Castro was my 1st Karate instructor when he had the South SF school. I was a sophomore in high school at the time but already had trained in Choy Li Fut, Shotokan, and Western Boxing. It was with some nudging from a high school friend (Chris Bansuelo...RIP) that I joined GGM Castro's school who at the time I believe was 5th or 6th degree. I ended up filing for emancipation and graduated from high school a year early to join the US Army. It was in the military that my martial practice and studies began to branch out into many other systems. Thought I'd eventually reunite with the Castro family and train with them again but it never happened since I moved a few times in NorCAL and they weren't located near me. I have a lot of memories of hanging out with Rob and then wife Laura.

Karate, boxing while in the Navy 24 yrs ---- I often wondered about some stick fighting for self defense in my older yrs. I had seen your cane defense a few yrs ago and said thought. Whoa, GREAT ! Now # 80 soon. I AM going to get into YOUR CANE program because of the extremely useful , uniqueness and for exercise and self defense ! I am in good condition for all my crazy adventures and still hiking, canoes, practicing /sharing/ learning/ teaching my : Learn To Return " wilderness survival skills at my tipi camp , 7,000 ft. - plus flying my Powered Para -Glider. ( then playing the juke box and dancing with young maidens on Sat. night , ha. ) . I WILL BE calling - ordering a cane , book, dvd, etc. ) I believe this will be my new life / love .
