I turned 40 today. I meet with 2 financial advisors earlier this year who estimated my net worth between 1.6 and 1.8 mil. To close the racial wealth gap black people have to become investors; and stop being the largest consumer group in America. Start investing in real estate, business ownership and the stock market. These are the three pillars to building wealth, not expecting the government to do something it will never do.

I believe that most people are looking for methods to transcend their current financial situation rather than crying over spilled milk. Education and financial literacy is the pathway of my choosing.
"financial literacy" isn't the answer. that's something they made up in response to occupy wallstreet. The baby boomers came out of high school barely able to read and do math but are the richest generation in the history of the world. That's due to government.
The firm that I work with serves all however our heart is for our community. So many people are talking about financial literacy, but I find that the implementation is missing. As I meet with families, I see that few people are maximizing the tools that are available to them. Most people who have a 401(k) do not know the target number that they're working towards, nor understand their investment allocations. Too many of us are getting low returns and think because they're contributing that they'll be ok. Another problem is only 5% of licensed professionals are black and less than 2% actually interact with clients. I believe in educating the community, but it must be immediately followed up with implementation. If you don't use it, you'll lose it!

Stop harping on the past and the negatives and focus on the future. Black people are currently building wealth and building legacies for their families and their communities.
That has always been the case, but it doesn't trickle down, so to speak, to those living the least quality of life. We keep thinking of ourselves, as a homogenous group, when we are that, only in the loosest sense of the word. We are, as a group, highly dysfunctional and are becoming increasingly divide, as time goes on. We all don't share the same basic values, that community is built upon - that even society is supposed to be built on, so we mirror the society, in the most extreme degree, of its negatives. We let a minority among us, do a disproportionate amount of harm, to our communities. We are overpoliced by police officers, significantly because we don't police ourselves/each other/our communities enough. Any talk of collective economics among us, must start with the understanding that crime - violent crime especially, is bad for business. In terms of "wealth'. The source of wealth for most of us, is the homes we own, but we seem to not understand or appreciate the fact, that the quality of the community your home is in, impacts the value of your home. I agree this largely misses the point, but nearly all of the discussions we have been engaged in, in recent decades, have missed the mark, by far more than previous discussions. There is no future for future generations, if the decline in our children's leaning continues, on this downward trend. In stead of a call to defund the police, there should be a call to refund the public schools, so all the traditional courses, that were once taught are restored, and some new ones added, that are needed because of the chances in society. Some subjects need more areas of study added to them. What comprises good parenting should be taught in the schools. Surely all people can agree on what it is comprised of. It is the fundamentals of parenting, that must be the focus - not the structure of the family. Exceptions to the to parent/father mother household have always existed. A father in the home has never guaranteed, that children will not succumb to delinquency. Many argue that a mother not being in the home, is more of a cause, of it.

@ who is this “we”. Also when has success ever been contingent on being a homogenous group? Success comes from groups that are diverse as well. That just sounds like a method of control: you must think the way that I do. I don’t know but this is such a self blaming take, when it’s proven that jumping through all of the hoops you suggested doesn’t guarantee success because it is not the actual obstacle to success
What was stated toward the end around public policy being the catalyst is exactly why Black people as a whole will never in this country close that wealth gap! Why?? Because proven in the election of 2024, we are on too broad a scale apathetic, withdrawn and unengaged, and quite frankly uneducated in political matters. additionally, we would rather sit back and allow other groups to position themselves within the political system rather than we seize more of those opportunities so that we can be in positions to craft and dictate this public policy..
We have more Black politicians than any other time in American history, and where has that gotten us? We're going backward. It has been predicted that Black networth will be 0 by 2053. How could this be possible with all of these Black politicians and the liberal policies that they support? 🤔

Forget the group. Build your own wealth and take care of you and yours. Even the Most High will separate Black folks wheat from chaff because all skin are not kin. I don't even listen to these kind of panels. Their message is victim and other such regurgitated nonsense. Our people best wake up because it is every man for himself, literally. Majority of Black folks do not have anybody giving us handouts. So best pick yourself up by your bruises and make something of yourselves for those who do not know what time it is. Much respect to our successful Black families making it happen. Now go forth, heal, grow, and be great on your own.
Building your own wealth is the million dollar question. Nobody really knows how. This isn't even specific to black people. In general, the vast majority of us in the middle class have been conditioned to just be employees. You will never earn your way to wealth. We can cry all we want about what happen 500 years ago. The reality is we think a high paying job is the answer. We only view money as a means to buy something. Hence why so many of us want to be entertainers and athletes. We think high paying gigs is the answer. If you just want to be an employee and a consumer. We will just be giving our money away to the rich.
What is the purpose of this panel??? I feel like I just wasted a half-hour of my life watching it. They said nothing we don't already know and offered no concrete solutions. They are burning oxygen. The message should be directed for young people to choose their career fields carefully. You can still make it in the USA in fields that are in demand. Just look at the Asians. The successful ones are working in high-tech or medical fields. In these fields the corporations are forced to hire whoever can do the job because there are not enough qualified caucasians. I worked in software development and never had a problem finding a position paying above average salary. But, you must have skills that are needed. Do your homework first.

@supermaple1919 Okay, I'll humor you. The discussion talked about closing the wealth gap, but they didn't talk about what Black people can do as individuals to help themselves. Here are some things that we can do to close the wealth gap in one generation. Graduate high school, don't have children until marriage, don't commit crimes, and go to jail/prison. Study for at least an hour and a half, preferably two hours per night. Study subjects/ fields that are in demand, such as IT, nursing, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and engineering. Stop going to college for useless degrees and accumulating enormous amounts of debt. Use trade schools and community colleges that teach in-demand career fields that partner with local businesses. When you land a good job, participate in your company's 401K/ 403b retirement plan that exceeds the match. Get good term life insurance that will take care of your family in the event of your untimely death. Save your money and buy a house. Homeownership is the building block to wealth. Black people wouldn't have to complain about gentrification if we valued ownership and maintained our properties. Invest your money not only in yourself but also in your children so that they can implement everything listed here and take it to the next level. Leave an inheritance to your children. Stop voting democrat!!! Stop voting for a party that supports bringing in millions of illegals that will undercut your wages, dilute your vote, and compete with your children for resources. This party also supports us aborting ourselves out of existence. Stop depending on a government that has been historically hostile to Black people. Last and most importantly, get back to God, Jesus Christ, and back to the church. Since we have left the church, we have suffered greatly as people. I hope this presents a clear picture for you.
@@bipi4363 I was with you until ventured into the weeds saying black folks do not attend church. I beg to disagree. Church is where their 401k money goes. The first rule of saving is "PAY YOURSELF FIRST".
@megeek727 Church and turning to Jesus Christ is more than putting money in a collection plate. It's about morality, following God's Commandments, and not embracing sin. Church isn't where their 401K money is going because given the opportunity to participate in their employer's plan, Black people participate the least.
The Holy Bible says the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. This information is very useful and informative, but wealth without purpose will produce waste. Hey Bishop! I love seeing the clergy weighing in on financial literacy. Having been raised a mother who has the utmost respect for God and the Bible I couldn't ignore what the Bible has to say about wealth. From King Solomon who was social media marketing before it had a name to Joseph who interpreted the dreams of a Pharaoh a commodities/ resources story to Jesus himself telling the parable of talents an investment theme. The prevailing message seems to be ...wealth is nice but don't forget God in the process.

Within the system of capitalism you can be "smart enough" and do everything right. Educate, work hard, buy a home, invest and lose it all via medical debt.

Bro please. You think you make any money if the political climate doesn’t want you to? You can’t beat politics by will of force
Interesting opinion, so develop a panel of small business owners and put it on RUclips, and I will listen!
That has always been the case, but it doesn't trickle down so to speak, to those living the least quality of life. We keep thinking of our selves as a homogenous group, when we are that only in the loosest sense of the word. We are, as a group, highly dysfunctional and are becoming increasingly divide, as time goes on. We all don't share the same basic values, that community is built upon, that even society is supposed to be built on, so we mirror the society, in the most extreme degree, of its negatives. We let a minority among us, do a disproportionate amount of harm, to our communities. We are overpoliced by police officers, significantly because we don't police ourselves/each other/our communities enough. Any talk of collective economics among us, must start with the understanding that crime, violent crime especially is bad for business.

With all due respect this sounds like more pleading and begging. I’m done, I can’t take it anymore
And on that note, I can close out this bs thread. Thank you for confirming what I suspected.
LET'S STOP ✋️ TALKING, WE MUST COME 2GETTER AND HELP EACH OTHER. WE ARE ONE.
Agreed
This was great thank you 🙏🏾
What was stated toward the end around public policy being the catalyst is exactly why Black people as a whole will never in this country close that wealth gap!
The moderator opened by saying not to focus on the past and let's talk about solutions going forward, and immediately started talking about slavery, Tulsa, racism, and other ills of the past. 🤦🏿♂️
For many, the past is the current
I mentioned that to my girlfriend 😂
History shows that the government of any country has had no interest in helping the economically vulnerable. That being said expecting help from the government is a pure fantasy. Any economic progress will have to be done by us the people.
@@donaldwright6191 Facts. Why don't these people understand this?
@@donaldwright6191 Study history. Whenever a foreign leader says he's going to use national resources to benefit the people, the CIA miraculously shows up and topples the government. What make you think they won't do it to us on the local level.
We will just be giving our money away to the rich.
stop talking about this. instead talk about how we have many lawyers ready and prepared to DEFEND this.
This is true. I have seen an increase in Elderly with special needs children they care for and they are needing to transfer mòney with their loved ones care.... Also as nurse I recently helped my father as a death dula so to speak. He was 75. This info is true!
basic formula. Get married, buy a home, invest in your retirement, invest in government backed tax liens, invest in high yield 10% to 14% returns or side business. repeat.
What do you mean by government backed liens? I currently invest heavily into my 401k and roth IRA but don't know any other solid retirement strategies. Btw think I've seen you comment on Aaron Clarey's youtube, fellow fan, and would love to learn more about
@@hennyindacupno need to get fancy. What you’re doing is fine. Just keep playing the game. Most millionaires are made from having paid off homes and investing in their retirement plans..and live below your means and practice contentment
How do you invest in government tax liens?
Don't have kids until you can fully take care of yourself and have a spouse. This one issue is big problem for our people. Equally bad is that too many of us get mad this matter is mentioned.
😂😂...get married??...there are a LOT of single people that are wealthy
Thank God
Tooooo many uuuuhmmmms, tiring to listen beginning part especially!!
You sound like me. People have started using that filler for two and three word sentences. I leave. Need all my brain cells.
Nothing about personal responsibility and what you can do to change your station in life. Let's just beg big daddy White gov for help.
I am illiterate. I am a novice. I am not smart. Can you please I humbly beg you explain what do you mean by personal responsibility? Educate me please
There will be NO lasting riches, if we don't allow God the ability to create and transform us into what He wants us to be. Wealth will always follow godly purpose. Much respect to the Black Economic Alliance and the amazing things they promote. Tithing and submission to God and His Holy Word and standards will prepare you for the correct and righteous wealth transfer from the sinner to Jesus Christ righteous believers. Bishop Cameron I. Nelson Ministries-Memphis, Cleveland, Canton ( Financial Services Ministry)
@@donaldwright6191Thank you Brother Donald for your kind words. Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. (Jude 1:2 KJV). Please have a very blessed year-2025.
We have been fooled into measuring wealth by physical possessions/trappings. I can't recall it word for word but , " why build up all these earthly/worldly treasures, then be denied entry into God's kingdom". Also, " for the LOVE OF MONEY is the ROOT of ALL evil".
@terrybrooks272 Great question Brother Terry. Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. (Jude 1:2 KJV). The Bible says ( A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children: Proverbs 13:22 KJV: In order for African American people to decrease poverty and large amounts of black men being incarcerated, we have to be economically sound. You're correct. Our goal is NOT to store goods and resources and wealth for NO reason. We have to build wealth for future generations to create and build legacy. Please have a blessed New Year. When does the race way start I know you folks are biting at the bits to grab an AR 😁 let me know 👍🇺🇸
Well that started around 1619 but it's not too late for you too to become a Travis McMichael or George Zimmerman. We fight with our intellect and our God does the fighting for us. Go ahead...speak on it.
If you look at every conversation about the wealth gap through the lens that it was AND IS intentional then these types of conversations are fruitless unless there is an action to counter act the disparity. Still too much talk about something no one has found solution.
No one has found a solution. So I guess your comment is the solution? Just break your fingers and stay off the Internet
Everyone already knows the answer.
Education, learning new skills, and financial literacy is the answer. Actionable steps is what people need to see.
@@donaldwright6191 then the people must be blind
@ @mja9376 not necessarily but people are comfortable.
Elizabeth White wasn't smart enough to save money for her own retirement and was almost homeless.
Within the system of capitalism you can be "smart enough" and do everything right. Educate, work hard, buy a home, invest and lose it all via medical debt.
Wealth transfer NOW WOW braking how many minutes ago

It's All Documented About What Took Place On Turtle Island.
Wealth gap starts with education and there's a segment of the population that doesn't value education while affirmative action is on their side
the wealth gap starts with money. a white high school drop out has more wealth on average than a college educated black american. there is nothing that can make up for a white person receiving half a million dollars from grandma when she dies compared to their black peers who were probably giving grandma some money while she was alive

Has always been automatic right.
@@BlUESKIES1178 no, he's saying too many sun people don't make education a priority like the Asians, Jewish people, and euros...
