  • In August 2023, STAHR had the third test campaign of its hybrid rocket motor (IB-3) at the M11 test stand of DLR Lampoldshausen.
During this test campaign, the Battleship variant of the engine was tested for the last time, testing the so-called blowdown operating point and a new nozzle design. This involves operating at a non-constant tank pressure, which causes, among other things, combustion chamber pressure and thrust to drop over time. In addition, this operating point leads to further challenges, such as instabilities in the combustion, which can be seen clearly in the Hotfire video.
The flickering in the video comes from the so-called rolling shutter effect, which is an image position error when capturing moving objects.
Our propulsion team will work on this and have another test campaign in Lampoldshausen at the end of the year, where the weight-optimized flight engine will be tested for the first time. So stay tuned for more content!

Ist es richtig, dass ihr nächsten Donnerstag(2.11.2023) ein recruiting Event habt?

Does your engine compressor operate from a torch or is it all from an external supercharger? If it's the latter, then it's complete bullshit. Change materials - use ceramics based on aluminum oxide and titanium oxide with tungsten oxide to withstand high pressures and temperatures. If you don't make a compressor, it won't do any good.
