Would love to see souvenir shops and restaurants or food trucks with designs that blend with the museum, the food can even be served under the theme of ancient Egypt where all the plates and wrappings are made of papyrus etc…

Wow. My wife and I visited Egypt 8 years ago. We had no idea this project was being built. Our tour was Egypt for 3 days, Jordan for 2 days, and Israel for 10 days. The highlight of the Egyptian was two fold. The Giza Plateau, Sphinx and Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum, Viewing King Tuts artifacts. I would really like to visit this new museum but unfortunately my health will not allow that. Congratulations to The Egyptian Antiquities office for their contribution to this valuable museum.

I visited Egypt over 25 years ago and viewed the artifacts in the beautiful, historic museum. While the old museum was in need of refurbishment, maintenance and improved security of its artifacts, I'm glad I went when I did before the "dinseyfication" of ancient Egypt and this eyesore of a museum.
I visited the old Egyptian museum in 2022 and thought it was very unfitting for the magnificent history of Egypt. It’s an old and decrepit building. Dusty, and doesn’t highlight the antiquities well. The museum at the acropolis in Athens is light years beyond the old Egyptian museum. I’m glad that the new museum appears poised to give Egypt’s history a proper showcase.

It looks like an airport. The old museum was filled up and seemed like a storage so I’m happy that ancient Egypt is getting a bigger place to move into - I mean, had it been any bigger and obnoxious they would’ve had to bulldoze the Giza plateau😂 Bit of a shame to put Ramesses under a giant roof like the GEM’s, it does the impossible and actually dwarfs him, wish they would have kept him in open air. And the lighting from below throughout the exhibition needs to be reconsidered, that has never done anyone any good - person or sculpture! But other than that money well spent. The facade is absolutely hideous, but the artefacts are stored in proper facilities now.

It’s amazing to drive from Cairo to Giza, seeing all those experiencing horrific stages of poverty, dead donkeys on the side of the road, then pass by Trash City, where fat men sit and smoke/gamble while the women and children sift through trash for pennies amongst raw sewage, all to arrive to a billion dollar beige complex, honoring one of the most maximalist and colorful cultures in history.
The old Cairo museum was the coolest museum I've ever been too. And the reason it was cool was because it was so old and reminiscent of an Indiana Jones movie. This new one looks like it has all the charm of an iPhone or Tesla car. Sorry for all the people who would have been transported to another time, and instead have to walk around a cold, soulless building.

It’s amazing to drive from Cairo to Giza, seeing all those experiencing horrific stages of poverty, dead donkeys on the side of the road, then pass by Trash City, where fat men sit and smoke/gamble while the women and children sift through trash for pennies amongst raw sewage, all to arrive to a billion dollar beige complex, honoring one of the most maximalist and colorful cultures in history.
I wonder what artifacts they found as they were excavating the area?

The old Cairo museum was the coolest museum I've ever been too. And the reason it was cool was because it was so old and reminiscent of an Indiana Jones movie. This new one looks like it has all the charm of an iPhone or Tesla car. Sorry for all the people who would have been transported to another time, and instead have to walk around a cold, soulless building.

Considering all the scammers prowling around the Pyramids, this sounds like a good idea to go to, but I they don't reign in all the scammers and beggars, it'll be a flop. Every time I went to Egypt, it was a disaster. Way too many beggars and scammers. Same with India.
