Very weird but I really love the clear bright sound of the standard better as someone coming from playing fender guitars mostly. I don't think the price jump is worth it when you can buy a standard and upgrade the tuners or pickups if you wanted with the extra money. The custom has the slightly better fretboard edges and fret dressing but you can also address any differences on the standard with that extra money. I like the simplicity of the look on the standard better as well
Standard seemed a little less warm sounding than custom. But I am sure it can be fixed using a booster pedal and some eq. They are close enough except the maple top on custom. Nice review btw. :)
Ive got the Standard 24 and it sounds great and plays amazing! Upgraded the pickups to some Bare Knuckle True Grit humbuckers and it sounds great. Also got some cheap locking tuners which kind of do the job but I'd suggest to invest in some better locking tuners from Gotoh.
@@arisl2370 1. They sound different. Listen for the note attack on the Custom 24. It is far more pronounced. 2. The Custom has a maple cap. The standard is an all-mahogany body. I actually do have a pretty good idea what I'm talking about, son.
So Standard has bound body and neck but Custom does not but gets a flame maple veneer? Freaky Friday that binding costs $700 from Gibson USA. I think bc of the binding the Std and Custom cost the same to make but Paul gets alot more profit for veneers. Ill take a Std. And why is PRS charging 729 for a Standard 24-08? Those mini toggles aren't $129 worth of parts and labor.

IMHWO, the neck on the Standard, w/it's binding on a Wide Thin neck, feels a touch wider & thicker than the Custom 24/Custom 24-08 Wide Thin.

probably to prevent picks from scratching the finish, sort of like a makeshift pickguard
