    Thank you so much for this video. Xargon has always been one of my favourite childhood games, and I'd completely forgotten about Jill of the Jungle. I can't wait to play it again.
    I'd also never heard of that Vinyl Goddess From Mars game, but upon trying it, it's already amazing in the first level. I know what I'm doing today, and it's all thanks to you!

    And yes, so it's not just me. I tried to explain how the jumping feels, saying "too tight or predictable"... I'm not sure how to express it, but it's certainly different than most anything else (other than Xargon of course). Really takes some getting used to.

    Checking out your channel, I just can't stop nerd-gasming from all the nostalgia and game reviews of the stuff I used to play as a kid. The DOS era was incredible (and Jill of the Jungle in particular was one of the great ones). Thanks for helping me relive the memories! :)

  • @LGR
    @LGR  14 лет назад +1

    @gav1230 As far as PC platform games go, it's incredible. But compared to some of the high-end console games, your Sonics and Marios, it's hard to compete. The earlier Keen games anyways, I-III (and Dreams to a degree).
    Have you played the later games, IV through VI? Those were where it really perfected it, and honestly I still prefer those over any console platform game.

  • @LGR

    @crystyxn There's no telling, it really depends on who notices it and who is selling it. I got my Jazz CD for a few dollars on ebay, I've seen it go for upwards of $40. JJ2 is usually less than $10 for just the CD, much more for the box.

    @harrybean96 eBay is still the best way currently. There's a Gateway E-3110 for 9 bucks on there right now, no bids, ends in an hour. 233Mhz with Windows 95, it would be a great mid-90's gaming rig!

  • @LlamaRed
    @LlamaRed 6 лет назад +2

    I only played this a couple of years ago, but it's one of my favourite 2D platform games ever. I love the humor, simplicity and the sound effect when you pick up a key. The soundtrack is also really fantastic, all except for that bonus theme music which I can't stand. :V It can be beat in about 15 minutes but I also like that, it feels like you're always making progress and is fun to keep playing through from start to finish again and again. :] I'm not a huge fan of Jill 2, the levels feel much larger and it lacks that sense of constant progression the first games has.

    wow, i was really expecting for you to trash this game. I played it when i was young but since Xargon, Comander keen and the snes were all already out i just saw jill of the jungle as the inferioir, you don't preserve your momentum as you jump and the graphics are really obviously a grid, with not even slopes or different tiles to connect the grass to the ground or do a ledge realistically.
    But no, i was wrong, you like it and i can respect that, this is the first time in my life i feel like i'm the young one, and that i'm very used to modern conventions so its hard for me to appreciate this. i always like seeing someone appreciating something that i don't like and explaning to me why its awesome
    And yeah, now i see, jill of the jungle is awesome
    great video

    One of the first PC games I ever played... (along side epic pinball). I remembered it being fun to play, but revisiting it again recently, I can say that it definately still holds up to this day.
    Its a testament to what PC games could do at that time. When you think about it, Mario 3 had been released just a year earlier than Jill 1 so it was still very much the NES era of gaming... good stuff.

    This game was amazing.
    I first heard about this game when a university lecturer told me about Jill of the Jungle after he saw my Jungle Lydia flash game back in 2010.
    I was really impressed it was one of Epic's earlier games, because I knew of Epic's Robot Fighter game called One Must Fall and I think that game too was part of the Shareware games for DOS and early Windows 95 computers if you know how to activate it through Windows DOS mode.

    We had a version of this game on our old IBM Compatible. In our version, the graphics didn't look anywhere near that sharp, and the game moved too fast for the RAM to catch up, so the game would often freeze in place during a jump or when fighting enemies.

    I played many of those games, and yet have no recollection of how I came by them. I almost certainly didn't download them myself. I was completely oblivious to what went on in gaming at the time, and yet I had those games.
    I do remember playing this game a lot. I loved transforming, and that rising and lowering of platforms both for platforming, and as a sort of a level select. I still remember parts of the game, although I haven't played it in more than 20 years, closer probably to 25. Seeing this, I think I might play it again.
    Where did you get all of those games from? I myself know many more games than the average gamer, but I've never heard of most of those games. Especially those that weren't on PC.

    @phreakindee It would be particularly good for those of us who want to play these older PC games, but don't want to bother with buying older hardware or messing around with DOSbox or emulation. I believe Wolfenstine 3D is available on XBOX Live Arcade in its original form, but I understand the game runs slower than you'd expect. But having these games also on Wii or PS3 swould be awesome as well.
