Dan:that being said all we gotta do is put it back together and hope it runs good, and boy i hope it runs good Wiring: i bouta end dis mans whole career
The wiring is laughably easy on that system. It's all color coded and all the plugs are proprietary. It's pretty much impossible to plug up the wrong thing. And they give you around 3-4 extra feet of length on all the wires as well.
Thanks! I think people get too focused on what power they want. They can't enjoy their cat unless it has 1xxx hp. Like, "hey my dick is 12 inches long and nobody can be happy unless it's 12 inches!"
I love the direction you are taking the channel man. I remember watching you and other motovloges to see the wide open clean streets of America when I was deployed. This new buy weird stuff and repair is always fun to watch. Love what you do, keep doing you.
Dakota digital makes some pretty nice instrument clusters with all sorts of different options on it and they’re pretty easy to program and put in, we put them in every hot rod we build at the shop I work at
Even though you messed up the pump, it's all good bro. A portion of life is about making the best out of everything and learning from your mistakes or from others. Btw.. starting up the motor is a glorious moment!! Lol had my volume all the way up. Peace danno and everyone. 🤜🤛
Was I jibber jabbering? I apologize, I was not aware. Missed a great opportunity to clean up and paint the firewall. Loving the build and process. Someone should send you one of those mechanic jumpsuits, those khakis are done!
Finally I can kick back and watch a bit of do it with dan, really great build to be able to watch without it coming from a professional racing team or millionaire mechanic shop owner
Don't feel bad Dan, been doing engine and trans swaps professionally for 5 years now, still managed to fark the front pump on a 4L60E last month. Granted, that was the first in almost 4 years.. happens to all of us.
Pro tip: converter should click three times to be fully seated. Also if you can't spin your converter with your finger during install it either isnt fully seated or your trans isn't on straight. Even if it's fully installed without bolts in the converter you should be able to spin the converter
In my 71, the square nuts that accept the front leaf spring hanger rusted out. Holesaw thru the floor and put an electricians ko seal in it. Damn uni bodies.
Dan just pour a lil bit of water on the exhaust pipes to check for firing(if it steams its firing if not then it's not firing) . Don't need to burn your finger lol
Dude your really making me miss my old 73, would have loved working along doing the same to mine. cam and headers on it was probley less than have the hp your going to have with the LS.
If you’ve covered this in a previous video, I apologize. But are you going to pull the engine and trans again and clean the frame(either wire wheel or sandblasted) and repaint/coat it? It’s just surface rust, but your subframe needs some attention after you slapped that beautiful LS in there.
Awesome video.... Kinda wish you would've done your own harness... The harness is whats making me debate the ls swap. Also the pre built ls swap harnesses are expensive.. 😆 id rather put that money into a built engine over buying a harness. Love the split bumper build tho
I seen on a video on nicks garage where he had the same problem with too much pressure and removed a plug and a spring and ground one ring off that spring and dropped his pressure to 59 psi. I don't know if your's is the same but worth looking into it.
I got my radiator fixed at a shop after an accident and they let me drive it home even though they knew it had no coolant in it I made it 7 km on the highway to my house and the car is still running a year later and yes I know I need a new block when I rebuild it but whoever said wrx motors are unreliable is high because the stock boost control on my car dosent work right and it has also survived 19 pounds of boost completely stock😂
You can idle the engine for a while and don't have to worry about temps, Garrett (owner of Leroy the savage) has run a whole drag pass without coolant at 1500+bhp with an aluminium block LS. They can take a beating. Of course you shouldn't do that, but you can if need be.
Would highly recommend against doing so on a brand new engine. It’s always a bad idea due to the only the fact that the engine will overhear after a bit, but running it without and coolant at all in the block will cause uneven heating and uneven expansion as the engine warms up. This is especially bad on a brand new motor where everything hasn’t broken in yet
@@jacobshepherd3997 Yes, I know that, but I'm just saying it can be done. Leroy's first engine still runs and is scheduled to be dropped in a another car(I'm not actually sure is it already in some of their cars), but as I said, you shouldn't do that.
Curious why you pulled the sub frame unless this is just test fitting and your taking back apart for paint? I would recommend the little bit of extra work, will make the engine bay look alot cleaner in the long run, either way sweet car
Dan the star lord I love you because you say shit like “this one Fucking bolt” and don’t care if the other guardians of the galaxy may worry about monetization in the videos. I’m sure you will figure it out. This car is freakin sweet almost as sweet as your space ship.
What exhaust u going to run? Can’t wait to hear this thing run. I kick myself for selling my car. Had the same year. I built it the same as u are doing. It was a fast car and a lot of fun.
At least you didn't leave the torque converter on the table and throw an Allison back in behind a 12v cummins.... I let him finish torquing the bolt before I pointed it out
Dan: Shoves camera right next to exposed engine to capture extremely loud exhaust note.
Also Dan: Why is my camera having audio issues?

Honestly I treat my phone's like shit. I constantly drop them, fling them, throw em, etc... But I've never broken one 😂 my case is pretty good.
@@DOITWITHDAN Well in your case...
I think this is the earliest I've ever been to a DIWD video.
14:55 that feeling is so pure. It’s amazing work you’re doing dan!
I can’t wait to see this thing completely finished you’re killing it
I generally like this build, itll be nice because its its a healthy amount of power with good drivability! Good luck with the build dan!

Hey Dan, I’m restoring a 1971 Datsun 240z and seeing you put in this work really motivates me. Just wanted to say I appreciate you man.
I hope this series takes a couple more episodes! Love learning new stuff 🤙🏽
I’m in England and currently doing a similar swap. Mines a 73 firebird and a 2001 z28 donor. Your builds going great, keep it up 👍🏻
Is that a GTO front on yours?
I used to work at AtoZ auto repair and customization and I helped put a ls6 in a 1969 caprice classic
Dude this is amazing. I was holding of on doing this with my 71 Camaro. After watching your videos, I'm going to give it a shot.

crazy how easy a swap is with the Holley management system! atleast you made it look easy!
Pretty intimidating solo mission brother good on you for tackling it by yourself I know I couldn’t do it just because I don’t have the patience
Sounds so legit. Cant wait to hear it out on the streets.

Big moments bro. I was so pumped when it fired up. Nicely done can't wait.
Being a 4l60, I'd say it almost destroyed itself.
Keith Hudson as light as the car is I think it’ll do fine for what he’s building it for. As long as he keeps it cool and doesn’t go over 500 whp

Hell yeah! Can't wait to see it all back together with that mean park to drive shifting haha Awesome video as always
This car is gonna be a beast
Might wanna go for a billet corvette servo for your stock trans, livens it up a bit and its better than yanking it apart for a shift kit.
That motor sounds so bad ass haha
