I use a popsicle stick, trimmed to fit the slot, push the nut in, tighten the bolt, and then pull the stick out. No danger of arcing the battery to the equipment your working on. The metal dental tool may accidently touch the metal frame of the equipment your working on and arc.

Too tight of space on my bike to do that with battery in place. Be careful and you will be fine.

@@iShOotBlasterz No room. Need something hooked. Plus, plastic toothpic wouldn't get a good grip. You won't get shocked. No metal around my battery box to ground on anyway. Do you use a plastic screwdriver? jeez.

I just used a small still as a shim to keep it lifted

Just tape the side brother. You can put the battery in place and it should match up everytime...

I cut the tip of a plastic tube and stick it in and leave it there.

Just stuff a little stiff paper under it like folded cardboard ...Match book anything ..a little sturdy. Piece of Foam .

You could try that although it works poorly and then you have the foam or cardboard trapped under the battery terminal. I've tried such methods in the past with little to no success. My method is faster, easier, cleaner and works much better. That's why they leave the opening on the side.

I use a small piece of dum dum putty or plasticine to hold the nut. Never fails.

You don't need to put anything underneath if you use the side slot. The battery was designed this way. It's cleaner and faster too.
