    ** UPDATE ** : This morning, we received a privacy complaint regarding this video and voluntarily complied. We blurred the mugshot of Nic's uncle, who Nic and Austin were both working for when Nic went missing. We could have fought it and probably won, but our main goal is to get Nic's story out there. If this video got pulled because of the unblurred mugshot, that wouldn't do anything for Nic.
    Since this video was published, we have also received extremely hostile messages from Austin, who thought we were saying that he went missing too. He wants to make it clear that he's not missing too - he was just ignoring us. He was also very angry about Nic's uncle's mugshot being included in this video, and said that this video influenced a train of thought that he (Austin) had a part in Nic's disappearance.

      I can't help but wonder why Austin would "ignore you" if he truly wants his friend to be found. All though I can see why Nic's uncle would be pissed about the mugshot. Even though it is public information.

    • @ExploreWithUs
      @ExploreWithUs  5 лет назад +379

      @@brewdogg77 I agree. The only reason we did include the mugshot is because according to public information, his uncle has a violent criminal history. One of his charges was something that's one of the worst crimes you can commit against a woman. We weren't looking to "expose" him or anything of that nature, but due to the nature of his crimes and his relationship with Nic, we thought it would only be fair to not hide this from you guys. This is one of the reasons we aren't going to do these investigative missing persons videos anymore; we don't seek to upset people with these videos, but if you're going to give an unbiased look into a case, you have to report all uncomfortable truths that are relevant to the case.

    It is very suspicious that he kept avoiding you and didn’t even see you guys when you were in town. If he didn’t call you, that is bizarre.
    Austin seemed too close to Nic to just avoid you guys without reason. I’m worried for him.

    A google search will show you he was in some way connected to a major meth drug bust in sept 2018.
    I think his uncle has ties with drugs, Nic and Austin both work for the uncle. Something went down, Nic paid with his life. Austin all of a sudden has been taken in by the uncle (buying him a truck etc) and if austin says too much he will vanish just like Nic.

They use the footages in which you can be seen and basically discuss your situation. This was all relatively new. I would probably be angry or hurt too, might even think that the said youtubers are using the fact that my friend is missing for some views.

    I'm a community organizer with 25 years of experience working at street-level with street kids and the homeless. The first thing you need to understand to make sense of what's going on is that the street is full of drama 24/7, and life on the street is super-chaotic. This means if someone says, "I will be there, guaranteed 100%," and they actually _want_ to be there, the odds of them being able to do so is about one in three. The odds drop precipitously from there if they're reluctant in the slightest. It's just the nature of the street that even with the best intentions, people living on the street will be flaky. About _everything._
    Second, and this is absolutely critical, street life and drugs are synonymous. To survive on the street you need what's called your street family, and everyone in the family does everything together. If one person picks up a habit, they'll all pick up the habit. They watch each other's backs and give each other support, but they also share each other's weaknesses. If Nic was using, then I guarantee you Austin was also using. No judgement; street life is hard and drugs are how you keep from going insane or just killing yourself. Think of drugs on the street as social lubricant, the way middle class people use cocktails or a bottle of wine at a dinner party as social lubricant.
    And the third thing you need to understand is related to both my first and second points: the street has its own laws and its own ways of handling problems, and the enforcement is done by the drug networks. At a couple of levels above the street dealers, you have very serious people whose interests are not served by a lot of media and police attention. They will tolerate a certain level of drama as long as the beef doesn't rise to a level which threatens to create a heat score. If a situation is shining official light on the street, the enforcers will be sent out to politely but firmly tell people to keep their mouths shut and stop stirring up the pot. These enforcers don't threaten, and they don't accept excuses. They inform people how things will occur from this point, and if people fail to listen, then they just... disappear. If people who have been talking to you on the regular suddenly clam up and ghost you, the odds are good they've been told to drop it and chill out by an enforcer. This is doubly the case if this disappearance has anything to do with drug debts, whether because Nic is in the wind to avoid paying or because he's been disappeared for ripping someone off.
    My last point is a suggestion. You are technically journalists, and police departments have media relations specialists whose job is specifically to deal with media requests for information. If you want the best available information from a relatively reliable source, contact the police department there, identify as journalists with a web show called Explore With Us, and ask for information on this case.
    If you need more advice, I'd be happy to help. Reply with contact information and I'll get back to you. I hope you actually have a chance to read this comment and it doesn't just get lost in the 1500+ comments already posted.

      That is because the cops have a hand in using the drama for their financial gain and purposes. California is the most corrupt State in the union. They run the sets. Your view point is very narrow and yes I use to live on the streets and know what I have seen. There is a dark underground and best believe the cops have a hand in it all.

    I have military experience in investigative procedures and from all the messages you guys have received from Austin and Nic's family I feel like they are all purposely texting to get you to stop searching for Nic. I can sense a fear from them that you are uncovering too much and they want you to stop. Like you, I am not pointing blame at anyone but only pointing out strange occurrences. I have a feeling when all of the truth comes out you won't be surprised at the outcome. One thing I learned in the Army is to always follow your gut because rarely does it send you on a wrong direction. Also, be very careful with assuming you're being messaged by the people you "believe" are messaging you. I could go into a ton more detail but I won't bore you. But just really sit down and weigh all optioms out with those messages before accepting that they're true...

    You changed the narrative of Nick's missing persons case and that's a good thing. Sometimes a breath of fresh perspective is necessary. It's not unusual to get conflicting stories at the start of an investigation. That's why people are interviewed over and over again by the police. It's still one of our most effective tools to get to the truth. I've been investigating for nearly 30 years and you did everything I would do. Keep looking for the truth it really does always come out, but publicity is key. I've always said, a case will not be solved before it's time, be patient with the authorities. Sometimes it looks like they have moved on to more important cases, when they don't know where else to do. Then the phone rings or someone talks and the fire is lit on the case. May God's protection be over you and your friends during this difficult time.

    My theory is that nic and Austin worked for his uncle, and his uncle meet up with nic maybe over drugs or something like that. Nic’s uncle killed him, Austin kept digging into nic’s death trying to find out what happened to him, nic’s uncle did not want Austin to find out so he also killed Austin and took his phone and that’s why he kept saying I can’t meet up because it wasn’t him.

    Firstly, the whole sponsorship argument was really unfair. I'm pleased you get sponsorship, as you said, the money helps you to go out and create amazing videos for us to see. Secondly, I'm so sad that nothing has come from everyone's searches for Nic. I know they were both pretty much homeless and not living in a safe environment, which really touches my heart as they seemed to be great guys and great friends to each other. I hate to think it, but I'm going with the meth (or maybe something else) theory. He could have been wandering around high, taking off various items of clothing as he went, then ended up at the beach for a swim, or even just walking too deep in, got in trouble and drowned. I'm holding out hope that he's ok somewhere, but either way, I hope his friends and family get the answers they need. Much love to you all from the UK xx

    • @ShineBrida
      @ShineBrida 5 лет назад +8

      oh fucc a basard they're street kids. street kids don't call the cops. they were living in an encampment and trust me as a formally homeless person you never want the cops at your camp cos they will be more interested in searching your stuff, evicting you, ticketing you or maybe arresting you. they don't take you seriously at all. trust me it would be perfectly normal for them to not even have thought to call the cops.

    • @ShineBrida
      @ShineBrida 5 лет назад +5

      Allie Bee I'm unsure what you mean about "hobo life being important", but I certainly said nothing about anything being more important than a human life. to clarify, when I was homeless I heard potentially human & definitely human disturbances, screams, arguments etc during the night CONSTANTLY. you don't assume that someones life is in danger when you hear things you're used to hearing. people up at all hours, especially homeless people are often on meth or crack which makes them volatile and often theyre cursing at themselves or their belongings. it's a hard situation to comprehend if you havent lived it, but since most homeless people end up having to sleep near others (due to certain areas being known to be "ok" to sleep at ie no "no trespassing" signs, police don't move you on, available overhangs etc in case of rain, no sprinklers coming on in the middle of the night, relatively concealed for safety amongst other reasons) so you really do hear all manner of noises. it would get ridiculous even if your instinct was to call the police at every scream, you'd be doing it multiple times a week and probably get arrested for doing that. plus as I believe I mentioned, police dont take homeless people seriously. with something like "I heard a scream" especially, they have not much to go on and will be vastly more interested in the homeless caller, probably running them, searching, possibly moving them on, possibly implying they are paranoid or hearing things and assuming they are on drugs. also as the person above me mentioned, a lot of homeless people don't have phones or charged up phones to call the police. I know I didnt have one for about 5 or 6 years. you've also got to realise the fear involved. when I would hear screaming and stuff at night I would be frightened and sort of curl up and lay there hoping it didnt come closer. it's scary to hear that at night especially when you're sleeping out there. I'm really not sure where you got the idea that I have a disregard for human life from - if you knew me that would seem like a ridiculous assumption, I've actually got myself into a few awful situations trying to help people because I think we have a big societal problem with "turning the other way" and people have turned from me and ignored me when I needed help and i do try to treat people as I would like to be treated - but I assure you the actions or lack thereof don't stem from that, just from different assumptions automatically being made once you've become accustomed to a very different way of life.

    • @ShineBrida
      @ShineBrida 5 лет назад +2

      Mrs Meowkins I'm not sure how so many homeless/formally homeless people came across this video, but I think we are commenting to add some insight or context that people who haven't experienced that might not have/know, like people not understanding why they didnt immediately call the police when they heard a scream, but someone who's lived that lifestyle might know the answer

He seems like such a wonderful soul and I dont expect you to find someone I could be any more concerned about than him, although I wish for all the missing to be found of course.. I hate to hear that he was messing with that awful drug, but I just wish so much that he would somehow be OK. I dont have any idea what could have happened to him, but it doesnt seem like it was good. As for Austin and the cousin, I dont know how they could stop communication with someone trying to help, but I feel like someone else harmed him. As for Julians list, I didnt feel like it was that strange, except maybe the 3rd person part, but I dont feel like he did it. I would love to know what the cadaver dogs indicated. I pray for Nic to be OK, and even the kitties. Thank you guys SO much for this update. I wonder about it a lot. Love you guys.
