I wish more people my age (18-20) would listen to this kind of music... I'm sick and tired of hip-hop, R&B and techno/trance... Saturday-night, a pint, lots of good company and Johnny Logan's Whiskey in the Jar or Tim Finnegan's Wake... Doesn't sound too bad to me =D
I don't know , which version is best.I like Thin Lizzy, the Dubliners and Metallica. Great Trad. song in different versions. Logans versions is too calm (for me) but it's also nice to listen. Greetings from Germany
@phouphoublue yeah i'm from Ireland(is éirenach mé) eh welll the majority of irish ballad or folk songs have that kinda chores thats easy etc....mush a ding stuff is called lilting its an old irish form of singing it was orginally used to lilt set dances without intruments entire tunes can be lilted
Nooo nooo... An old Irish drinking song! And Thin Lizzy was even the one who made the song into the version in witch you're used to hear it. Metallica just did another cover on that one, just as sooo many others before them. :) GREAT SONG, though. :) I bought this cd by the way. Great cd. Even though some of the songs are quite "wrong", compared to the original versions...
Johnny Logan? Sounds like Johnny Cash in an Irish kinda way. Pretty good but hit up the Johnny Cash thing and get an angry grind! Watch his Fullsome vid. You can go far!
@flythegadsden Honestly?! TWO YEARS go by and you look for old comments to post on thinking that "Hey, this person hasn't been on since the reagan admin. so it's free game!" WTF mate? Please tell me why I have to smile about a song that tells about a man who got turned in by the woman he loved AFTER he mugged an officer of the law (something left out of this cover or it didn't get put on for whatever reason) THEN he was sent to prison to rot. I cannnot find ANYTHING to smile about.
@Helms113 you're wrong ... first version i knew was from the dubs (cause of my parents) ... i'm not a great fan of the lizzy/metallica-version ... not bad, but dubs did it better ... i don't like this, because the singer turned it with his style into a pop-version ... in my opinion ...
hi ... surely it is clear to everybody that this song is sung by the man who is in his prison cell awaiting his execution. not a fun tune, not about whiskey or drinking. in all european countries alike, throughout history, the man on death row was granted one stiff drink+good food on the night before his death at sunrise. so to him it is worth mentioning that there is whiskey in his tin-jar. - okay, but please, somebody from ireland explain to me the 'mush-a-ding ... daddy-oh' , whack what?
@Helms113 No, I don't like Metallica at all. I more closely grew up on the Pogues, who did a way better version of it a while ago. This song is butchered to shit because it's missing like three verses, and the verses he did sing, he made up his own words for.
Prachtig als je Ierland bezoekt en je hoort dat liedje in de bruine café• is geweldig. Top daar. 👍👍👍
I saw them in Gothenburg some years ago. One of the best performances I hav seen.

Whiskey in the Jar is 17th century slang for money in the pocket.. This song dates from the 17th century.
@flythegadsden Honestly?! TWO YEARS go by and you look for old comments to post on thinking that "Hey, this person hasn't been on since the reagan admin. so it's free game!" WTF mate? METALLICA´s Version is cool

still cant beat Metallica
Not so nice at first, much better if you give it a second chance. Guess some songs (and voices) are like wine, an aquired taste.
shiiiiiiiiiite
It seems to me a mixture of Metallica's version and original version...
Nothing good anyway
@Helms113 No, I don't like Metallica at all. I more closely grew up on the Pogues, who did a way better version of it a while ago. This song is butchered to shit because it's missing like three verses, and the verses he did sing, he made up his own words for.
No,no,no,noooo
i'm not irish and they even ruined it for a german ^^
they simply failed ^^
BIGTIME!!!!
metallica and thin lizzy sucks if you´re not listening to the irish version you should´nt listen to it at all!
NOT A WAY TO SING THIS SONG.
thats pretty much the worst version i've ever heard ...
This version SUCKS. There's no feeling, no heart, and no heritage.
Damn, he butchered this song all to shit.
This is so fake
meh
What are they on? Speeding along... lol!
