This is the first part of my beginner's videos. This goes through what I'd have in a beginner's kit, and making sure you guys think about health, safety, and hygiene!
I will make some more videos soon showing some basic sfx makeups, and some common beginner mistakes.

I usually buy my makeup from Frends Beauty in LA, or Scottys Beauty Supply in Sydney. I've also bought from Alcone Co. and FX warehouse in the states, Mouldlife and Guru Makeup Emporium in the UK, and Ashton Admor in Western Australia. Amazon is good, too.

Would you consider doing a more advanced version of this video?
I want to start doing more advanced things such as mask making and sculpting my own prosthetics and i dont know where to begin and what all i would need to semi-succesfully do it on my own. There's so many mixing mediums and adhesives and sculpting tools and everything its a bit overwhelming! I've been stuck on liquid latex and third degree for too long! Onto bigger and better things!

i hope i'm not alone when i watched this vid first starting out and was offened that she didnt like latex, but now i understand why its a pain in the ass considering i also ruined my 99 dollar jeans! It also can be problematic. i will say that the uneven build up of latex is great for zombies, wounds, or old age stipple.
Omg! I spilt liquid latex on my 80 dollars jogging pants. I searched online for DAYS trying to find a way to remove it, but nobody could find a way to get it out of clothes. BUT ... I scrubbed my jogging pants with lemon oil, and it came out completely!! So hopefully this helps if you ever spill liquid latex on clothing again😊

squeee this is what i have needed. so glad i found your channel. i have been looking into makeup schools in Scotland for a while now but i have a very small budget unfortunately so i could not afford any of them :-( knowing that you are self taught makes me more comfortable about going out and trying this on my own with channels like your own to help guide me. i watched your resource video as well and have written everything down lol. gonna start building up my kit as soon as i next get money. also thank you for providing a UK online store that i can purchase these items from xxx

I don't know if you could help but I'm in the uk & I'm 15 and I'm very keen on making a short zombie film, it's not going to be amazing obviously but I think adding some gore will make it look much more professional and realistic rather than a lot of people running around hahah! I'm going to follow a girl trying to deal being now alone in the zombie apocalypse and right at the end she's going to be bitten (I'm going to clever and not show any zombies though) and I want to do some cool scratches / bites / makeup & I wondering if you knew places I could order beginner stuff (that's cheap!) that show the prices in pounds and ship or are in the uk? What are the best colored contacts that are safe to use?
I'm not necessarily a beginner make artist, but I do have a lot of questions regarding how to get started with an actual career. I'm a junior in high school right now and plan on going to Cinema Makeup school in LA but I am not really sure where to go from there so any helpful tips would be wonderfully appreciated.

After watching this video I'm actually a little scared to start with sfx. The kit seems to be quite expensive and technical. Might need to go to an actual makeup school or class to do it right and safely. Sticking to face painting for now. But I like textures :"
honestly just start with liquid latex and tissue :) then build your kit up v slowly
I honestly started with home made scar wax & homemade blood & then you can buy little palates of purple, black, and red grease paint at party city for $1.50 not expensive at all!! 😊😊 & you can go on amazon and buy a pint of liquid latex for $8
Yeah, I started off with latex. It's always best to start off with that.
AnastasiaSilvi try just buying latex grease paints and blood u can make at home and isopropl myristate to remove the latex btw these r really cheap and easy to use

I have been watching so many sfx videos, and by far, your's are my favorite! I was wondering if I should buy the nose and scar wax, 3rd degree, or sculpt gel. I can't decide which one to get. And also, if I were to get the nose and scar wax, does it need to be applied with Spirit Gum? I have seen some youtubers use it and others do not. If you could help me that would be greatly appreciated! x

I got 3rd degree and its really good!
Nose and scar wax is very very fragile as she said but then again third degree is very expensive as well as sculpt gel. If your a beginner I would defo recommend making gelatin at home using a sachet and glycerine with a bit of water. Or you could buy mehron 3D gelatin. Just to yano play around and see what you like best xx ( hope this helped)

I added up your list, it's roughly $100, which is the same price (roughly) as Mehron's Special FX pro kit... wondering if you, with experience, would suggest a pre-made kit, like that or building your own to start off with. What does the gelatin feel like on skin? I've never used it, all that I usually use is scar wax and latex. Is it comfortable and easy to move your face with?
Hey Kiana did you try CRCmakeup.com in the Usa? They have a lot of these products and their shipping charges to Australia are much lower (they don't charge any handling). I love them!!!

How can you protect your vellus hair from being ripped off when using silicone and latex?
Yay, I have all this stuff, except the adhesive remover. :/ Is there anything else that will take spirit gum off? Before I cover my face in it for halloween.

+Jdy Diaz i think before you invest thousands of dollars in makeup school, you should take an online course. I recomend dick smiths makeup school, its very cheap and offers a great begginers course

is spirit gum necessary when using scar wax?
not necessarily, you could also use other adhesives like prosaid adhesive, or if you are really really desperate at the time, Elmer's glue.
When I was beginning I used Elmer's glue for a adhesive and it worked great just make sure it does get in your eye (duh😂)
Not really but a great adhesive is pros aids
I just have a cheap Party City scar wax that doesn't need that but I also know it may not be Star quality...

So I'm doing the joker on my crush this Halloween. He's a medium skin tone (he's black), and I was wondering how I would make his face paper white like the joker?? I'm assuming just layers of white face paint would work, but I'm not sure. (I've never worked on dark skin tones, I'm as pale as a vampire)

What could I use to make a slit throat last all night? i used wax and it fell off and I didn't like the texture of latex. what else can I use. and no prosthetics. like just thing since can make pretty much

when I was going to add a stipple sponge into my cart, i had different options of: fine, medium, and coarse. Which one do you recommend?

A fine stipple sponge feels almost like foam medium has a lot of holes and then coarse is stiff and almost scratchy (medium and coarse are good for blood and others for a random but nice application)

My 10 year old is dying to becoming a sfx artist. What would be a things to get her for xmas to start her a kit?
liquid latex, scar wax, water based paints, (hopefully they know about how liquid latex is a b word to pull off of any area with hair) but those are pretty much basic things you can get for a beginner
There is a Ben Nye 3D effects kit. It gots almost all for a beginner ;)
Use elmers glue instead of liquid latex...it does the same thing, because you never know she might be allergic
any idea if i can get the listed stuff above in melbourne ?? they don't have it in malaysia & I'm visiting melbourne in a couple months and would love to know if its possible for me to buy the items there. i also don't like buying things online cause parcels usually get lost when its shipped to malaysia :/

what do you prefer water activated paints or cream based?
Water or alcohol activated alcohol lasts longer x
Water activated paints like the Kryolan aquapaints, Ben Nye Megicakes, and Wolfe FX Hydocolor are going to be way better than cream or oil based makeup. The watercolors are easier to apply, are usually more pigmented, will last longer. The main advantage of using the watercolors is that they dry. This is beneficially because they wont smudge as badly as the cream makeup, and layering the colors is so much easier. With the cream makeup, its hard to layer one color over another. They end up just mixing together, and you just end up with mud. I really wish I would have started out using the watercolors when I first started makeup. It makes everything go so much more smoothly.

Do you need a natural talent to do SFX makeup? I understand most people who do it well would have a natural talent, but over time can practice help someone master at least the basics?

I've been a huge Fx makeup fanatic for over 4 years and it's really sad I can't get any of this in my country and ordering online is impossible for me as the minimum shipping is more than 20 dollar, which converted to my money is realllllly expensive 😔😔😔

Miriam Livian you can use water activated paints on your eyes just not grease paints because u use alcohol to activate it

Fuck when she said scar wax and spirit gum are 3-4 dollars its fucked up that in nz i have only found soirit gum for $10 and scar wax for $15 and they're even smaller than the ones shown in the video
