Southgate's lack of awareness is absolutely staggering.
I don't think the crowd were (mainly) booing the player. I think they were booing Southgate and his decision to pick him over those playing regularly in the PL.
Henderson is good enough no matter what league he's currently playing in. He's been the captain of one of the most elite teams in europe for a long time and he's not washed up.
He’s always been an average player who worked harder than most with great leadership qualities. It worked for Liverpool as they had stars everywhere who didn’t always want to put in that extra 5% that he and Milner would. Add to that his decision to move to a weaker league, it doesn’t make sense. But then he still picks Maguire and Phillips. Ward-Prowse could be named in the team of the season and he still wouldn’t pick him
As a Brazilian, I don't understand why the English federation is so cheap in the choice of their national team manager.
Because he's actually the guy who has got us closest to winning a trophy in the last few tournaments and the FA still have faith in him..However most fans know that he's not good enough to actually lead us to a trophy after losing the final against Italy which we should have won comfortably and want him gone

Southgate seems to think he got booed because he's gone to Saudi Arabia. It's partially that but mostly because he's done at this level and this coach continues to pick him and others who aren't even playing games at the top level. The talent pool is deep but the manager only sees the shallow end.

Englands results under southgate have been way better than any other England manager since 66 so ill trust hid judgement over yours. he watched the palyers up close and clearly still thinks hendo as aback up option is better than nothing.

The answer is yes, it is going to help (maybe). England Fans know that the problem with the team is Southgate. They email talk shows, they call in, they tweet, they argue, they comment, media call him out and he doesnt change. Thousands and thousands of people see the slow moving car wreck that he is driving and are trying everything in their power to fix it and the person causing it is completely tone deaf. Not only that, southgate throws the players he claims to defend under the bus. People arent angry at Maguire or Henderson, they are angry you keep picking them. It’s such terrible man management from Southgate to continue to put these players in the line of fire like this. Fans want to see players being chosen on form; they all/we all have our club allegiances and think our own players deserve to be picked, especially over players who haven’t played for their current club, or those playing in sub-standard/non-competitive leagues. But if he’s gonna keep picking players who dont deserve it on current form, he needs to be prepared for the backlash. We’ve just had the exact same issue with Maguire; it’s amazing to hear him continue to claim he doesnt know why its happening
Best thing was it was mostly Scottish fans booing and jeering Maguire and still Southgate moaned and said it wasn't on - of course it was, they're are old rivals what more do you expect? Protect the player at least and leave him out of that game (though he should leave him out completely from the England set up, especially when he can't get a regular game at club level)

I'm not one of these people who get all emotional over the Saudi position on LGBTQI+ people as we can do nothing in the UK to change it. I do however find it strange that one of our supposed best sporting ambassadors for that community would go and play in Saudi Arabia considering to the country's stance. Oh no wait, he said he went to see if he 'could make a difference', well good luck with that. Henderson would've known that was futile when the Saudi authorities greyed out his rainbow armband in his press release photo.
And this constant argument that he couldn't turn down 700K a week is ridiculous when you consider he's been raking in a good £1 - 2 million a MONTH for at least ten years. He's got enough for his grandchildrens grandchildren for goodness sake, so yes, of course he could turn that sort of money down.
Wouldn't it have been heartening to hear him say something like 'I've had a offer from a Saudi team but I'm simply not interested even though the financial package is amazing as my stance on human rights is well known. I'm therefore off to Fulham, Forest or another mid-table team'.

I'm surprised that three smart men missed the point of Gareth's sarcastic response to the question about Henderson promoting the Saudi Bid. Southgate's comment was the smartest thing in this video and the pundits completely missed it, or ignored it to press a point suggested by the title of the video. When he mentioned all of England's "impeccable decisions", Southgate was clearly calling out hipocracy and understands the concept far more than these broadcasters.

As a liverpool fan I was very disappointed in Hendo moving to Saudi for the cash. His views have been known and moving to a country where those views are "wrong" or contraversial just for the cash. He's definitely tarnished his image for everyone especially Liverpool fans.

Southgate said he would only pick players if they were playing in the top leagues - that was when he was commenting on the Championship. The Saudi League is more League 1 level - how can Southgate justify picking Henderson on that alone, never mind the fact he's past his best years and we need to be looking towards the next tournament and future players!!

Henderson essentially plays in the minor leagues, not at the top level. Good for him cashing in, but that doesn't mean he still deserves to play with England's best, because he is no longer playing in a top level league. Would Southgate still have him on the England squad if he played MLS? Or Canadian Premier League? Of course not. Making him a captain is even more ridiculous.

Even though I'm a Liverpool fan Henderson going was a good thing I don't think he was well liked especially the last couple of seasons .was he a good captain at times yes but he did disrespect Kloop a few times in the pass .

It’s amazing how disconnected and downright stupid Southgate really can be, just the fact that he picks players that either don’t play it a good league or don’t get picked in the first 11 is enough but to then add a newly picked captain with hypocritical views on a very sensitive subject for me is not very smart at all, just like defending for 80 minutes in a cup final when you have the lead….
