The music brought such a unique individuality to each and every town you visited. It really sold the multi-cultured setting you travel through in your recruiting campaign against the empire.
This OST is the best to ever do it! Fond memories of my mother knowing I was playing the game and asking me to go to specific towns so she could hear the themes while working at home.
1 is good, 2 is better. Cleaned up a lot of stuff that was wrong with 1 in my opinion. War battles were better, side game was better and could be more creative with character builds. Having only 1 rune slot in suikoden 1 held it back a bit.
A straight comparison between 1 and 2 will always be unfair. That being said, the only things i disliked about 1 was the limited "screen time" for Barbarossa, Windy and Odessa. The latter was in the game for about 5 - 10 minutes of gameplay, despite being a major character and leaves the liberation army at the hands of Tir, of who'm she barely knew at that time. Barbarossa had 3 scenes in the game, despite being the main antagonist (and a very complex character himself).
Not sure how I went 20+ years without playing this game, but just getting in to it now. Everything everyone has ever told me about this game is true. Super fucking awesome.
Mikki Higashino is probably my favorite VGM composer. These songs and the one from Suikoden II just capture my imagination in a way almost no other soundtrack does.
from @1:47:28 to the credits, and the bath theme is nicely refreshing after such dramatic music. Many RPGs encourage the users to sleep, save or eat but how many remind gamers to bathe? Ty Suikoden.

roush26 Yes, I was teasing. I’ve never really had any friends that were into Suikoden. My mom and my brother played it, but they weren’t obsessed like me. This past year, I played through and narrated the whole thing while my daughter watched. She loved it and has been asking for us to play through Suikoden 2 now.

i played this when i was 20 back then, but the ending was not all satisfying. I was sad that Gremio died. later i discovered there is an alternate ending, when you manage to collect all 108 Characters in the Game. This Way he comes back and lives, and i played it again using a walkthrough, printed on 20 pages. And it was awesome. so much work but so much fun at the same time. will always remember this as my favorite RPG.

High-quality samples, live guitar, flutes, bass, tambourine, it added so much emotional depth. Tracks like the Warriors Village theme are simply unforgettable
Thank you for sharing this magnificent OST by Hiroshi Tamawari/ Mayuko Kageshita/ Miki Higashino/Setsu Taniguchi/ Tappi Iwase. Suikoden 1 & 2 played one after each other is just a piece of Art.
Can't describe the feeling I get listening to this, it is one of the most rememberable soundtracks to a game I have ever heard. It's so emotional it matched so well with the game. Very well done with the art and everything like wow! Are you kidding me how did we get away from this. Masterpiece
"Main Theme Arrange- Ensemble Version" is the best. It is so nostalgiac, like you are looking at photo albums of your days as a kid and reminiscing about all the stupid stuff you got up to and chuckling about it and missing the good ole days. Or you are drinking in a bar and sad that you bought a nintendo 64 and can't play Suikoden because nintendo made it a cartridge based machine instead of CDs and your friend bought the last copy and owns playstation.
Such a great game, so many people say 2 or 3 is best, but imo the first one is the greatest :) At the time I liked mainly crpgs, not so much jrpgs, this game just blew me away though.
Was listening to this awesome soundtrack once again and just noticed that 1:47:28 - Theme of Tension and the Luca Blight Battle Theme from Suikoden II sound VERY similar.
Absolutely love this OST! Such a nostalgic trip back to the world of Suikoden. The music is so beautifully composed and really sets the tone for the game. Thank you for sharing this gem with us. Can't wait to listen to it while working or relaxing. 🎶✨
Ah this brings back old memories! You have no idea how bad I miss this game.. Still remains one of my favorite RPG series of all time! If only they continue the series....... :'(
This music takes me back. Not just to adventuring with Theo McDohl or wtv, but also summertime at my grandparent's place, god rest their souls. Thanks for uploading this.
This was the 2nd rpg I played on the Playstation.....I think. I remember playing Beyond the Beyond and being like, wow this game sucks. Suikoden 1 is one of my best experiences ever in my life.
That's exactly what happened to me too! I was hesitant to buy it because it was the same genre as Beyond the Beyond, which I didn't really like. Then the employee (at a shop in Huntington Beach CA, called Games 4 Less) convinced me to buy it. It kicked off my entire JRPG love, I quickly jumped to Final Fantasy, Wild Arms, Xenogears, Phantasy Star, all because of Suikoden.
Same for me, exactly. I was hungry for RPGs on the PS1 and when I found out Arc the Lad wasn't going to be localized, I tried Beyond the Beyond. It sucked. But then Konami released Suikoden and 3 months later Vandal Hearts, and I had what I needed. And then Wild Arms, and finally FF7 in the fall and my cup ranneth over.
These tunes only bring me sadness knowing that there will be no games like Suikoden 1 and 2 anymore. I'm hoping every day that there will be one like this from Konami before I die. Sad but true.
theme of sadness is very sad piece. I downloaded theme of sadness guitar version on my phone, but I always skip the song whenever it played, because listening to the piece really breaks my heart, like it really hurts. eventually I deleted the piece because I can't bear the feeling. I remember gremio's scene in scarletecia castle. I can feel all the emotion floating. loyalty, sacrifice, loss, love for someone you care for since they were children, and his words "this will be the first time I won't listen to you" or something like so, ughh my heart.... :'( :'(
Sweet, sweet childhood ... this game is a part of me and form my personality. Great to hear the songs again. I have bove games but i ask myself; why i dont play them anymore? too many shity games poisoned my mind like Windy do it to Barbarossa Time to remember. Time to relife the childhood again. thank you
Bought both games - sadly got stuck on neclord a couple months ago - though i've beat him yesterday - so my adventure shall continue. (My suikoden series started with suikoden 2 when i was 5 years old, so yeah - i kinda got in the wrong way xD - when i bought the games over the psn though it imideatly came back that i never played part one - luckly i can now continue my adventure to the fields!)
+Donavan Lewis Same here actually. Then I found Suikoden 1 sealed for $15 at Babbages before they were bought by Gamestop. Same store also had a sealed copy of Breath of Fire 3 for the same price. I miss Babbages.
Such a fantastic soundtrack. Two of my favorites are the nostalgia bomb of Main Theme-Guitar Version, and the haunting Peaceful People. That song sounds straight out of Xenogears.
This was a decent game, I enjoyed it. Nice story. I just started playing Suikoden II now for the first time. Just beat the mist boss in Sparrow Pass or whatever.
Ah, jeez. "Penpe" is such a creepy sound track. Suikoden I and II had such great music. I don't understand why the music in Suikoden III had to be so terrible, although I still like that game.
Damn this ost is really standing out to me more than ever right now. Definitely top 3. Must be also noted that the music seems to be made completely from pure instruments and does not have a synthy sound. I love "video game" sounding music à la FF7 of course but this can be more in the same light of classical and even old cultural music. So many styles it's crazy
Heh, my bad then man. I was lucky enough to get both soundtracks for Suikoden I and II off Soulseek. I am actually thinking about uploading the entire Suikoden II to my RUclips page since it's so rare and many people would enjoy it. Problem is though the Suikoden II soundtrack is 104 tracks and over four hours of music.
Anyone else notice that Joy Joy Time (0:33:00 - Joy Joy Time) sounds SUPER similar to the cowboy bebop song? Must have used the same music samples? hahaha

Sweet, sweet childhood ... this game is a part of me and form my personality. Great to hear the songs again. I have bove games but i ask myself; why i dont play them anymore? too many shity games poisoned my mind like Windy do it to Barbarossa Time to remember. Time to relife the childhood again. thank you
One of the *very* best Video game soundtracks... *_ever_* !!!
fairly certain I play this ost daily
Confrontation with monsters
Got me hyped when I heard this suikoden II
Bought both games - sadly got stuck on neclord a couple months ago - though i've beat him yesterday - so my adventure shall continue.
(My suikoden series started with suikoden 2 when i was 5 years old, so yeah - i kinda got in the wrong way xD - when i bought the games over the psn though it imideatly came back that i never played part one - luckly i can now continue my adventure to the fields!)
Lulu Yurigasaki I started the same way, S2 first, S1 second XDGood times
+Donavan Lewis Same here actually. Then I found Suikoden 1 sealed for $15 at Babbages before they were bought by Gamestop. Same store also had a sealed copy of Breath of Fire 3 for the same price. I miss Babbages.
omg ! i was in the same exact situation, so i had to google on how to defeat neclord hahaha
2 will be always my favorite game ever, but 1 has the best ost. I'm studying flute thanks to this game and Star Ocean 2
45:21 Listen to this track sitting on the beach early morning, during spring or summer, very awesome :)
I agree.
i just thought of something. some of the tracks can fit right into a Spyro the dragon game like a glove.
WE HAVE REMAKES! :D
Thank you for posting this, wanna play it now :) And I still Have PSX, PS2 and both Suikoden, and Suikoden II :)
Such a beautiful soundtrack, wish more games would take notes....
2022 happyy new yearrrr
Rising Tide is the best track in this game. The synth pads are absolutely beautiful.
One of the best games ever!
The level of instrumental quality in a Psx game this old is astounding
If this astounds you, then you should listen to Soukaigi's soundtrack.
best music in game history
I love the peaceful people tune it's great
Ah, jeez. "Penpe" is such a creepy sound track.
Suikoden I and II had such great music. I don't understand why the music in Suikoden III had to be so terrible, although I still like that game.
Black Forest is also kinda creepy because you feeling lost in a evil place
different music author? maybe? some of the songs in 3 grew on me after awhile, but nothing gripping like the first 2 games
I really appreciate this. Thanks for the upload.
14 empire soldiers survived
We will get them next time.
Even in the forest, not just at night, during your work, praise the king.
haha nice
Damn this ost is really standing out to me more than ever right now. Definitely top 3. Must be also noted that the music seems to be made completely from pure instruments and does not have a synthy sound. I love "video game" sounding music à la FF7 of course but this can be more in the same light of classical and even old cultural music. So many styles it's crazy
welcome back. I miss this series so much>
suikoden series, especially 1 and 2, the best game ever, so perfect, even after years nothin could match it.
Ahadi Safari Suikoden and Zelda really are the greatest video games
Ah - the good old days when suspense was still at thing.
I'd get it. It's one of the most beloved franchises among RPG fans. Go with Suikoden I and II as starters.
The main character looks like he's an ancestor of the guy from Gundam Wing.
57:35 キーロフの音楽が一番好き
Check out suikoden revival movement for all suikoden fans!
Use this almost everyday 😁
Oh I have those don't worry :) Just played them again over the summer. I was referring to the album. Need Suikoden I and II OSTs at least.
Aaaah the game of thrones of jrpgs.
Legit my favorite video game and video game OST of all tiiiiiime
This one is good but they mastered it in Suikoden 2.
Just finished the game again yesterday,i need to download this
Anyone else notice that Joy Joy Time (0:33:00 - Joy Joy Time) sounds SUPER similar to the cowboy bebop song?
Must have used the same music samples? hahaha
